I currently have a i7 4790 and was thinking of upgrading to 7th gen or some 7700 i7 in a few months. Is it worth the upgrade or are those two similar in performance and wouldn't be worth my money to upgrade to?
Wait for Ryzen 2 newfag
Wait for the 8700k or Ryzen 2.

Haswell is still good. Why switch?
my rule is only consider upgrading if performance improves by over 25%.

>Ryzen 2
why not just wait for Ryzen 3

Ryzen two is expected to be the Sandy Bridge of Amd. It'll last him a good while.

As others said, the performance increase from 4790 to later gens is marginal at best.
What are you currently using the computer for that you think warrants an upgrade?
Gaming? Don't bother. You're good for a while. Focus on GPU upgrades.
VR? Don't bother. You're good for a while. Focus on GPU upgrades.
Video Editing? Rendering? Consider something with better multithreading performance. Perhaps Ryzen 7 or Threadripper.
Something else? Details please.
A seventh gen wouldn't be worth it but a 8700k might be, you'll have to see. They're expected to drop "in a few months" so just wait for that. But an i7 4th gen is still a really good processor, even today. If it's only for gaming, I wouldn't even bother desu.
I am on haswell and if you want to waste some money on something you don't need if you only use 1 computer go ahead
I dont feel like making a new thread. For 1440p gaming I'm thinking about going EVGA 1080 Hybrid or 1080Ti Hybrid. Is the Ti worth the extra cash?
