The best is a matter of taste. All Linux distros are essentially the same. If you're a traditionalist, you might like Slackware. If you just want things done, perhaps Fedora or Debian. If you're a neet with delusions of grandure, Gentoo,

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use.
Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

no he's not, linux in the context of OP's question could refer to anything based on the linux kernel, of which gahnoo+loonix is only a small subset. please be mindful of how you apply copypasta in the future

Ubuntu minimal - go with unity tho until gnome assimilation.

Debian unstable

Arch Linux

Now you go and make a pick based on what you feel you need more. I suggest Arch above all.

For all intensive purposes I think you are wrong. In an age where false morals are a diamond dozen, true virtues are a blessing in the skies. We often put our false morality on a petal stool like a bunch of pre-Madonnas, but you all seem to be taking something very valuable for granite. So I ask of you to mustard up all the strength you can because it is a doggy dog world out there. Although there is some merit to what you are saying it seems like you have a huge ship on your shoulder. In your argument you seem to throw everything in but the kids Nsync, and even though you are having a feel day with this I am here to bring you back into reality. I have a sick sense when it comes to these types of things. It is almost spooky, because I cannot turn a blonde eye to these glaring flaws in your rhetoric. I have zero taller ants when it comes to people spouting out hate in the name of moral righteousness. You just need to remember what comes around is all around, and when supply and command fails you will be the first to go. Make my words, when you get down to brass stacks it doesn't take rocket appliances to get two birds stoned at once. It's clear who makes the pants in this relationship, and sometimes you just have to swallow your prize and accept the facts. You might have to come to this conclusion through denial and error but I swear on my mother's mating name that when you put the petal to the medal you will pass with flying carpets like it’s a peach of cake.

don't start a thread for this.

They're basically all the same thing just use something that's popular enough so you get get support and has good documentation

Mainly the install process. If it seems confusing just use Arch Anywhere. People here will shit on you for it, but it werks.

If you have a phone or a spare laptop use them alongside your main machine where you're installing arch to follow the wiki, it'll be easy.

Also go on youtube and filter videos from last 12 - 6 months for arch installation they usually cover alongside arch wiki some extra tips, the latest good one had something like arch under 10 minutes in title, good luck.

Go install it now and don't waste time.

You need
>writable media, ~4GiB

>be able to fucking read
>to not be a dumbass

It's not hard

>>62271558
wait why isn't there just an Easy install mode if it's that simple?
>>
>>62271475
What's the difference between Arch Anywhere and just using Antergos?
>>
>>62271627
There is an official installer tho.

But installation is simple and going trough it you will see all the options you have which can help you to easily understand the options you actually have, while pre-built installers have their own base configuration and so on.

If you insist go with antergos or manjaro but I actually insist you simply install Arch by following the wiki and this video for mode aid:

Does Antergos have pamac by default?

>Void and Gentoo
My choices for meme systems like Librebooted ThinkPads and such. Really fun to mess around with.
>Fedora
My daily, and a good choice for anyone who wants a Linux box they can get work done on imo. Just install vanilla Fedora, maybe dash to panel if that's your style (I use it).

A general rule of thumb is to stay away from "best of both worlds" distros like Antergos or Sabayon. If you wanna use Arch / Gentoo, take the time to sit down and install it. Shit won't break nearly as often, and when it does, you'll have a better chance at fixing it yourself.

This desu. Gentoo is a mainstay on my home desktop because that's my tinker-station and I don't mind the semi-annual wtf moments. But for my work laptop it's something that just does what it says on the tin. Generally Ubuntu but I go back and forth between Ubuntu and Fedora depending on which release is more to my liking at the moment.

>A general rule of thumb is to stay away from "best of both worlds" distros like Antergos or Sabayon.
I agree with this, but I would say use what's suitable for the task in general. If you're trying to get work done, you want a professional distribution with a lot of devs behind it. Distros with small teams can't respond to bugs as quickly so you're often at the mercy of time and luck when it comes to niche distros.
>>
>>62271949
I guess the advantage of going Gentoo is when you truly understand different compilers how they work and have the time to test different optimizations for different programs - sometimes it helps sometimes it doesn't but compiling everything with the same setting is just literally a time sink.
