AMD got bullied too much. You know what they say, whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

Made me crack a tear desu. This goes to show that if you just keep working hard you'll probably be okay in the end. Just don't give up, keep grinding. And when they kick you down and you feel like all is lost grind harder.

Intel and NVIDIA were worried about antitrust and let AMD win once. In the future, they will point back to this chart and tell everyone how they aren't a monopoly. The best thing that can happen is actually for AMD to lose all its money on researching RISC V and go down so we can get rid of Intel and NVIDIA. With any luck, libreboot guys can finally give us all the computers we deserve.
>>
The GPU boost is from miners though, their gaming marketshare just keeps dropping.

Needs to say "Jew" a few more times.

>"From the early Jewish 1920's onwards non-Jewish Europeans were systematically terrorized by Jews, tortured by Jews, and slaughtered by Jews under the Jewish Bolshevik Jew regime installed by the Jewish Jewish butcher, "Lenin the Jew". The Holodomor genocides by the Jews alone claimed the lives of over 16.5 million non-Jews.

After using an AMD GPU for years, I can tell you that never again.
Trashed my 5870 for a 1070 and haven't had driver problems on Windows nor fglrx fuckery on linux taking down a whole install ever again. All I had to do was untick GeForce experience on the installer.
>>
>>62267060
5870 is an ATi made GPU you dumb fucking clown, fglrx has been deprecated by AMD for years.

Yes and? ATI was AMD property for years at the point it was made. You know as well as me AMD dropped all old GPU support on amdgpu.

>>62267204
What and? Evergreen was designed by the old Canada team, which isn't even in AMD ever since 2012 IIRC
>>
>>62267060
Literally worst timing, at least on Linux.
The free amdgpu driver with Mesa 17 is almost twice as fast as their proprietary one and every new Mesa version has at least 5% gains with every update.
The latest version as benchmarked by phoronix: https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=mesa-172-branch&num=2

>>62267246
Why would someone reward AMD/ATI for dropping driver support for old cards and operating systems far earlier than Nvidia? People here whime about Nvidia not optimizing older architectures in newer drivers, but AMD literally abandons everything after like 2-3 fucking years. They dont even make Windows 8.1 drivers anymore and that OS is still in commercial support. Radeon just isn't trustworthy and never has been regardless of performance. The only reason theyre even involved on Linux now.is because the community maintained drivers were raping the proprietary ones so badly it was making them look bad.

Different Anon but, I was planning on getting a GTX 1070 and hoping it would be able to run Minecraft with shader mods at 1080p and 60 FPS. Are you saying it's a bad idea? I'm planning on dual booting to play anything else.

GPU market is 98% mindshare and 2% good hardware/software.
And since R600 killed ATi's mindshare...
... well it should be obvious why.
>>
>>62267402
They didn't "drop" them, they just stopped trying to optimize the cards for new games because the cards are like 6-7 years old minimum now.

Nvidia did the same thing btw

nVidia has a very good proprietary driver so if you stay with a supported distro it should be smooth sailing.
AMD has the edge of having a very good free driver which works everywhere. The performance is still lower than nVidia's proprietary driver, though.
>>
>left: new fleshlight
>right: fleshlight after 6 months of use
>>
>>62267807
The downside with Nvidia is the proprietary driver is just the windows driver running through a shim. If Nvidia decides to cripple the driver on Winders you can expect that to happen to Linux as well.

pls no bully!
I literally have autism so that's why. My younger cousin has a Minecraft server and has been inviting me to play on it. I actually haven't cared about the game for the last five years because it always felt like an unfinished toy for obnoxious children and insufferable faggets. I always felt like Minecraft could have been so much more than what it is now.

>>62267807
Is Manjaro a supported distro?
>>
>>62267879
You don't need a GTX 1070 to play Minecraft, the real bottleneck is in the CPU since it's such a poorly optimized game.
>>
>>62267901
I said I intend to use Shader mods. That would be much more GPU intensive. I'm considering getting a Ryzen 5 1600. Is that enough?

Amd's 3xx, 4xx, and 5xx series gpus were just small incremental boss while nvidia's 7xx, 9xx, and 10xx lines were larger boosts. Buying amd during that period was not the best bang for the buck.

That has changed if amd can get prices down on vega, but that seems unlikely so they will continue to flounder and be dead when volta drops.
>>
>>62267246
And since only 3% of the desktop market is linux it means nothing.
>>
