How quickly and accurately can you calculate transcendental functions and complex ratios? There are ways to do it reasonably fast but you still won't be as fast and accurate as a computer. There are better uses of time.
>>
>>62267151
Not him. Faster, not a chance, but more accurate, yes. Computers can only perform finite precision arithmetic and numerical algorithms, they can't (yet) solve a problem through a true analytical approach like a human can.
>>
>>62267196
I'm talking about the two in tandem. Real life doesn't require infinitesimal precision, and you can still get absurdly precise and fast calculations algorithmically or with arbitrary precision numbers. When I want to calculate logarithms I'm not doing it by hand.

it showed that the tool is there for you to use and he probably didn't think a whole lot about the example itself. If you want to be an elitist about doing arithmetic very quickly it has no bearing on the utility of that feature.

That said I do most of my calculations in guile in the terminal because I can manipulate them more easily, and I don't think it's all that useful to use krunner to do calculations, but it's a feature nonetheless.

From my knowledge, plasma's global menu only works with Qt applications and gnome global menu plugin is ugly as sin and doesn't merge the corner buttons when maximized.

The file picker is a joke, you can't change anything about the system without editing a config file, you need a 3rd party software (Gnome tweaks) to change basic stuff.

No compositor, I have a script that downscales and blurs the background image, which then is used by urxvt as fixed background. XFCE has screen tearing and vsync does not solve the problem, much less compton. I already tested this shit on iGPU from Intel, AMD GPU and Nvidia GPU.
>>
>>62270715
It's slow if you want quality, because it renders every time the windows change. I'd share the script, but I'm not currently in my computer.

Still, I'd love to modify compton to allow to pick fake transparency backgrounds. Maybe one day.

solved that with xorg config,

Section "Device"
Identifier "Intel Graphics"
Driver "intel"
Option "TearFree" "true"

note: the above is for intel graphics.

This.

Also the real reason systemd sucks is it's next to impossible to just take one piece and fork/replace it unless you're a big company like goolag or fecesbook, whereas any autist could write a shitty cron or log daemon if they wanted to. It's not an issue now but inevitably there will be drama from within the project that warrants a fork/replacement of a module but you can't really do that without forking all of systemd.

All modern Unix and Unix-like OS's will fill up your memory with disk cache because otherwise it sits completely wasted. It makes your computer faster. When memory is needed for a program to run, pages of cache are written back or discarded (if there was no change) and it's been this way on pretty much every Unix machine since BSD came out with paged virtual memory and the vfs structure.

Fucking wintoddler newfags.

here's a little fun thing for gnome users:
download the shell extension "activities configurator"
set your activities button as the numix icon for your favourite distro (not the one you are currently using)
run apt-get update + upgrade
this might take a litttle bit of time to happen but wait it out
you are now running the distro that you set as a button image (with no real changes other than screenfetch and grub bootloader)

if anyone knows why this happens please explain to me

It's my desktop from three months ago. I'm flattered someone else posted it. Back then I saved the window positions with KWin's "Window Rules" so it was not actually tiling as the window sizes & positions had simply been saved. However, I've been working on a tiling script that automatically tiles windows with KWin and am using it nowadays https://github.com/Jazqa/kwin-quarter-tiling

Daily reminder that to this day, these two killer features are exclusive to UNITY of all things. Gnome and everything else BTFO.
>>
>>62289749
But i3 has dmenu which covers the second half I'm pretty sure. As for integrated title bars, they're not exactly a necessity. They're nice to have, but my workflow isn't affected on my machines that don't have them
>>
>>62289783
dmenu can search within application menus?
>>
>>62289783
Part of the benefit of integrated title bars is that they keep the menus hidden and tucked out of the way, but still accessible. Everything looks so much neater and prettier without those ugly menus sticking out.
>>

>>62289801
