(it's the oldest version I'm willing to devote any non-trivial amount of time to deal with, for new development. with that being said, I still generally assume that most users will have either a POSIX-compatible system: UNIX/Linux/BSD or at least Windows Vista (and perhaps Cygnus, if I target Linux first)
