What OS are you using?
For win10 you can enable CMD properties. For lower versions: ALT + SPACE > DOWN ARROW to EDIT > RIGHT ARROW to bring up context menu > PASTE (enter).
You know, you can google for these sort of questions, eventhough this is SQT (and eventhough Google modifies results - even hides comletely - depending on cache, search history etc). That's what I just did myself, and took me 2 mins to find the solution.

I've had ADSL for two weeks now. For the first week my connection speed on the router page said 5000 kilobits per second and I was getting a pretty sweet ~500KiB download speed. Then the connection dropped out and i reset the modem and it then said my connection speed was 11000 kilobits per second and I was getting 1.2MiB download speed, which was great.
then yesterday it cut out again and now I'm only getting 900 kilobits per second and a 100KiB download speed. I've tried restarting it several times but am unable to get back to decent speeds. Is this normal? It was all going so well, so smooth and now it's down the crapper.

it's a router-modem device.
i check connection settings on it and it says the line attenuation is at 39db downstream, and when the speeds were 5000kilobits p/s i saw it as 32db

If your router's admin page is telling you that your connection has trained down from 11000 kbps to 900, then that means there's some interference between you and your ISPs DSLAM (the origin of your internet on their end). The change in margin is consistent with that. Call them up. They may have messed up something in the line that they need to fix. Alternatively it may be some kind of unavoidable temporary interference, like thunderstorms.
>>
>>62242275
You need a current gen GPU. A 1060 is going to run you at least $300, and that's bare minimum. You really need a 6GB 1060 or a 1070, which is closer to $400-500. Then you need to spend $150 on 16GB of RAM, $200-300 on a motherboard, EASILY $300 on a CPU. We're already at $950 AT LEAST, and that's before factoring in your PSU, SSD/HDD, a case if you don't already have one, fans and aftermarket heatsinks. You're not going to build a modern rig that is capable of gaming for under $1000.
>>

ISP may say everything is ok (after all, everything might be ok concerning them). And thunderstorms and everything may end, and your connection would still be slower.

You're in way over your head here. He's not dealing with a LAN problem. His connection is negotiating a top speed that's slower than it was before, and he's already tried resetting. Unless there's a physical problem between his modem and the phone pole outside that he personally has the ability to fix, this is something he needs to call his ISP about. They absolutely might dodge the issue, but it's pretty much up to them to fix it.

if youre in trumpnation then most likely your ISP is gonna rape you, everywhere else nobody usually gives a shit, but I would suggest that you use some kinda server in france or a seedbox to do the torrenting and then just stream it via plex or setup ftp to get the data safely.

Yes, as long as you have antivirus installed and you aren't downloading some files that have been uploaded the same day and they're named "facebook password hacker".
As for the ISP rape part, you can always use alternative torrent trackers, same way you can use alternative Adblock Plus addons to skip websites that say "please disable adblock in order to view content".
>>
>>62242675
Torrenting media files is safe. Torrenting software is pretty much putting yourself on the shortlist to be in a russian botnet. AVs are nowhere near up to the task of filtering through that shit. You'll probably kill all the visible malware, but there's no way I'd trust a PC with several pirated programs on it to not be keylogged.

Wrong. Every possible botnet detected and entered into the AV database after a certain time. (trust me, I've made ones myself, I've payed FUD crypters, and they're detected after some time.
When you are downloading media, you are downloading it sooner after it is uploaded - for example a new episode of Twin Peaks, it airs on TV, you are excited, and you download it.
You don't download right away some new software after it is published :) Plus you can download older versions for which the botnets have been purged looong ago.
The faster the botnets spread, the better they are, the faster they're detected and updated into the AV databse.

yo, /sqt/. I'm trying to get clover to build properly on my machine, but no matter how many times i follow the steps on the wiki page for it, i keep getting 'gradle project sync failed' in the top of my editor window, and 'createprocess error=2, system cant find file specified' in the messages window. i have the current version from floens's own repo.
The wiki mentions to get the correct SDK tools and SDK platforms from the SDK manager, and i ahve them.
the platform value I have is API level 25, and as you can see the sdk tools value also matches what is suggested in build.gradle. since that's the only step in the wiki that is outside the project, i'm confused as to why gradle isn't finding this missing file. Does someone know what I can do to fix this?

Just had this issue with Manjaro. Seemed the adapter I was using was missing a bin file in the firmware folder.
Google something like "ubunutu wireless adapter list" or something because they made a list of adapters that may or may not have problems with Linux in general.

>>
>>62245058
It's possible. Usually dropping the overall speed is a sign of some problem on the line between you and them (as indicated by the signal margin). Sometimes they'll down-train your session if there's congestion among customers in your area. It would be kind of a weird way to cope with limited bandwidth on their end, but this is an unusual situation and it's possible somebody handled it poorly.

More likely it just means it's a pain in the ass to get a hold of customer service right now.

For Nvidia cards, if you run video content on the second monitor it will cap the refresh rate of the application on the first monitor to that of the second while it still refreshes at 144Hz causing horrible framepacing issues, it's a driver limitation with no proper workaround, if you limit the refresh rate of your first monitor to 120Hz you'll still get capped to 60FPS but the frames will be paced properly.

For AMD cards running your games in fullscreen exclusive mode will get around this issue.

Could it be the combination of self-test in progress and near-dead battery? But it shouldn't turn my shit off if the main power was on the whole time. Even if I had some voltage spike and the battery was in bad shape (tested it few months ago, had 10 minutes runtime), it shouldn't happen, right?
>>
>>62247719
No, staying at stock voltage is fine. You'll eventually run into instability or crashing, at which point you can dial back the oc. This doesn't damage the card.
>>
>>62248106
Oh, also, I left the beeper warning on battery on, so I think I would've heard it if it switched to battery, but I'm not sure since I had headphones on. So I think there was no audible warning and the fan (which turns on when switching to battery) turned on only when the PC turned off. It also didn't hibernate, which it should do at about 50% battery (5 minutes runtime left), however I think it wouldn't try to if it was a self-test.

It's near impossible to destroy modern Nvidia cards, they have a million safety features built in to stop clueless people wrecking them and losing Nvidia money on RMA's.

Pretty much just set everything that has a limit to the max. Temperature limit, power limit and voltage limit to the max. So long as it stays under 90C (which it wont let you exceed anyway as it will massively downclock once it gets there), it's safe. They are voltage locked in the BIOS so they can't even get close to unsafe levels nevermind exceed them.

Once you've done that, open up a benchmark (Heaven is good) in a window, then slowly increase the core clock in 13mhz increments. Once it crashes, you can back it off 26mhz and it'll probably be stable. Do the same with the memory but in 25mhz increments. Once you've dialed in where you think it's stable, run a benchmark to make sure scores/FPS is actually higher. Pascal has a feature where it will correct errors the card is making rather than simply crash like older cards do. What this means is, is that while a card may appear 'stable', its actually not and is getting lower FPS because it's busy correcting errors.

Don't be surprised if you can't boost it very high. GPU Boost means that these cards pretty much overclock themselves, my Pascal card can't even handle 13Mhz+ on the core without shitting the bed, it overclocks itself that well. Once you know what clocks it will run at, you might even just try undervolting it for better temps and thus less noise. This is a bit more complicated as it involves messing with the voltage curve (still impossible to damage the card), but it's pretty easy if you just watch a youtube tutorial.

On my card I only need to sacrifice 26mhz to drop from 1.081v to 1.000v, which makes an enormous difference in temps, and absolutely zero difference in framerate.

A lot of capture cards output the file as.avi or mpeg (been ages since I did this, so things might've changed). Stick with Stereo sound, don't try to add 5.1 or change anything from whatever the source audio is, you'll only fuck it up. Once you get your "master" avi/mpeg file, save a copy on DVD/External hdd. You can take that "master" and run it through a DVD authoring program to make it play in a dvd player. Again 720x480 res is as good as it'll get. Upscaling will only make it worse. Depending on the tape, be prepared for very large files, this is ok, it's what you want after all

It's a shame this board is to retarded to have a nearly-nsfw thread without fucking it up.

You're probably dealing with firefoxe's great linux fuckup of the year. Some genius on their team decided to only let firefox do audio with goddamn PULSE. You literally can't get a peep out of it unless you've installed the pulseaudio package. Needless to say this caught several distros off guard. I think it kicked in with ff 52.
>>
>>62249202
The manufacturer should have a spec sheet along with the list of qualified ram that shows compatible CPU's.

Firefox 55 fucked up my tree style tabs.
I'm running FF54 now, and it's perfectly fine. But are there any security issues? How long can I just keep running ff54 until a problem arises?
>>
>>62249375
Obviously. People are just pissed because pulse is known to be such a pile of fuck that it's been intentionally removed from several distros over the years. It also has a rep for breaking systems more often than a modern package should. They claim it was the only real choice they had for modernizing the browser, but it kind of felt like them just taking the easy road because it fit with their "don't give a shit about our users" theme this year.

I'm currently running two 1080p monitors on my HD 6870, using DVI.

I just bought a 15 meter Cat.6 cable but it will only connect as 100MBit.

I did use the fix. I've never had to deal with pulse that much personally except for replacing it as part of some VM troubleshooting steps. Yes, people are being juvenile as FUCK about this, but mozilla kinda made a weird decision out of nowhere, an handled it in the worst possible way. Meanwhile there's chromium practically laughing at them for having a problem so dumb, and the strong sense that FF did this just to save a trivial amount of coding effort.

A lot of people and a lot of distros have been able to get by without pulse audio for years without any problem. Firefox is now essentially the only major program on linux to require it. Out of the blue, without any warning to anyone. Turn on your home/office/school computer, internet sound doesn't work. I get what they're trying to do with the addon thing. But in a year where they're already stretching people's patience so hard, it seems like an unnecessary bucket of shit to throw on the pile.

I run linux on a laptop and connect it to my 40 inch screen to watch movies, and to browse the chans.
Since my flat screen tv is a distance from the couch I increased the font size for readability.

When I take my laptop on the road and only use the laptop screen, I have to undoo all the font size increases.

Is there a easy way to switch between profiles? I though of creating a new user just for movies, but then the issue of Home directories comes up.

Have a hermonie for your troubles, good sir.

What's the best way to store, securely (as in encrypted from the time it leaves my computer to the time it comes back), data remotely? I'd like it to be redundant, no data loss, preferably a one-time fee so I don't have the jackass holding my data erase it because something happened and my payment didn't go through for the month.

Something like dropbox, but less amateur.

my specs are much better on this laptop, in every regard, and pretty good for just using a web browser i'd say.

i have twice the memory i used to have and checking task manager i see that chrome (with a comparable number of tabs open to what i used to have open on my old laptop) is using proportionately half the memory

but still it will hang and even crash (with total memory usage <= 40%, whereas it would sit fine on my old laptop with total memory usage <= 75%). i haven't clean installed windows either, so this is from the manufacturer, whatever bloatware that entails.

i don't have firefox installed but i used edge briefly to compare the two. with chrome still running and total memory usage near 40%, edge could load and run any page, animations and webm's and everything
chrome would lag to hell loading the same animations and such.

laptop is a lenovo y700 for reference

For viewing at that resolution 1080p is fine, but from an editing/productivity standpoint, the real estate of 1440p can really help. You'd be surprised what you can't do with DPI. The dell IPSs tend to be pretty solid for image editing, but if you're on a tight budget you can get a little cheaper by looking at other brands, or getting a deal on a used one. Read reviews, look for models that have been written up on enthusiast sites.
>>
>>62252163
In order for a vpn to be free, it needs to have a way of paying for its own costs. In places where bandwidth etc are really expensive, you're unlikely to see a free service that can cut it, or cares enough to try when there are so many cheaper options out there. It's not like all the providers just forgot to add japan.
