Why can't linux or BSD achieve this kind of battery life?
macOS is built on the same principals, so it's not like it's fucking rocket science or something.
>>
because macOS is superior

Driver/power management, newer kernel etc.

I used to have shit battery in my Lenovo in older kernels too.

its what happens when you pay engineers to work on a product with specific goals and requirements. it's what happens when you don't just take whatever virus infested cock Microsoft shoves down your throat and when don't rely on random foss freaks spread around the globe to try and cobble together a decent solution for your machine that almost no kernel developers have even heard of.
>>
>>62239723
On the same machine running fedora + KDE I get about 8 hours
>>62239733
The OP pic was my screenshot on my mac air.
Here's another one.
And yes I waited about 20 minutes before taking it just to confirm that 15 hours thing.
What the actual fuck. Damn I'm stunned

stop shilling
>>
HOW????
WHY CAN'T LINUX DO THIS?
>>
>>62240219
linux can't even work half the time let alone be power efficient
>>
>>62240226
Yes I'm sure 90% of the supercomputers and servers in the world don't work half the time

>>
>>62240643
Not for long apparently. MacOS will die in the next five years any ways

Because the Macbook Air is about the size of two Raspberry Pis put end-to-end.

Because the Macbook Air is a battery before it's a computer.

Probably because apple knows exactly what hardware their OS is running on so they can power tune to a ridiculous degree.

Probably because they made some retarded hardware choices for that model.
Software-wise they're in the absolute best position to optimize battery life.

good, "time remaining" is a meme
its always going to fluctuate based on what you are doing

you don't have it on phones, don't need it on laptops either

>Why can't linux or BSD achieve this kind of battery life?

It can. See: Chromebooks and Thinkpads fully supported by TLP.

You just have to optimize things to your specific hardware, like Apple does to their laptops, Google does to Chromebooks, and regular Linux devs do to random machines.
>>
because Apple dictates comparatively small APIs for application developers to use, while on a typical Linux desktop you might find 2 versions of GTK, 2 versions of Qt, both on top of the inefficient X11 server with its many unnecessary protocol roundtrips
because Apple does not shy away from deprecating legacy technology

Is wayland more efficient?
From what I've seen on gnome it's even worse than mate or xfce
>>
>>62242156
It's better. GNOME's implementation is just bad.
>>
>>62242187
Yeah I get 8-9 hours on plasma 5 on that same macbook air.
