wouldn't it be preferable to use portable applications on windows as much as possible over installables?
even with things like notepad++, media players, etc.
installed applications offer more functiaility and wont go missing or corrupts
more work for little to no gain
idk
good luck unstalling them after 2 years when you don't remember exactly where you installed them and the dependencies

How does a program go missing?

If you have multiple PCs or ever need to reformat, wouldn't installed programs end up becoming more work (assuming I keep my portable programs on a USB drive or cloud service and use a program manager like portableapps.com to keep them updated)? And you gain a registry that doesn't become fucked (or becomes fucked less) over time.

everything it needs is under the same directory structure, including the launcher. that's why it's portable.

No
If you need a program but don't use it that often, simply keep the installer and uninstall when you're done with it

u wot mate?

i, too, dislike having a fast computer, hate my registry, and welcome windows rot with open arms

You can install portable versions of software with the choco package manager. I still don't see the point though, just install the proper version like a normal person.

shit accumulates over time with regular installs that will eventually necessitate a clean install
macOS and linux do not have this problem and portable applications closer matches the long term experience you'll have on those operating systems as opposed to "normal" windows usage.
