Well /g/, how many of you live in shitty rural areas where some no name internet provider gives you abhorrent service in exchange for a fortune. With Windstream, I get at most 3mb/s download (average is about 0.5mb/s), where as people I know that live less than a mile away are getting 20mb/s, but apparently I'm paying more than them.
I just wanna know if there's anything I can possibly do to get less shitty internet.
>live less than a mile
Umm ever heard yagi antenna?

suck their dick

Let me guess, Britbongistan BT?
The public utility company here provides 100Mbps down/up for $45/month with a static ip. No data caps. Gotta love Eastern Washington State, they ran a bunch of fiber back in the 90's in rural areas with government grants.

No, I'm an Americuck.

You can beam a wireless con..

I live in the middle of an eastern european forest and there are 3 ISPs competing with constant special offers to get me to switch to their 4G LTE service
Paying 13 eur a month for 40mbps 20 km away from civilization right now
Can you do anything right at all americucks
>>62237271
yeah windstream sucks dicks. sorry mate. too bad they're often the only ones in certain areas. I dealt with that pain before.
>>62237271
Bet you regret not living in the city or suburbs now

1.6km? Man, I've done links ten times longer than that.
Make an agreement with one of those people that you know. Make him buy a second service from an ISP. Set up a wireless point-to-point system between your houses. 1.6km is nothing, you won't even feel it.
- Use only Ubiquiti or MikroTik gear
- Remember about the Fresnell zone
Good luck. Maybe you could even start your own WISP, just as I did.

I'm in a rural area too and get fucked over by Hughes Net with deals like these. Bumping for interest

Depending on how much clearance you have between you and your buddies, I think like I'd go with something simple, like the SXT Lite from MikroTik. About $100 for 2 of them.
I have 1.5mbps for 40$/mo...
BUT down the street people can get 40mbps.
So if could get a neighbor to cooperate, Is it possible for a direct antenna on both sides to go 0.6 miles? But my question is can it go though dense forest? or am I just fucked

The Fresnel zone radius would be about 3m (about 10ft) for a 5GHz link.
Meaning that for the perfect signal, you would have to build masts about 3m taller than the trees. Read on doing that, it's not that hard. Mostly a metal rod.

Thanks I'll look into that.
