Ah, While I disagree with you on the way it looks I understand.

>>62226441
At the time I did not know very much about watches, and still don't arguably, but what else do you do.

How do you anon's on /wt/ define shitters? Price or just specific companies, besides the fashion companies.
>>
>>62226135
Tech is comparatively easy dude, and you're not going to get looked down as much nor are your ideas going to be challenged. It's not a rough blue collar job when the only gay dudes would be bears, and neither is it some stuffy STEM job where your beliefs would be constantly challenged by co-workers and possibly your very own area of study.
>>
>>
>>62226582
There's nothing to disagree about, it is an objectively terrible watch design. No one here can or will spoonfeed you good taste. If you really want to stop being a faggot then lurk more and take some fucking initiative to learn about horology and the history of watchmaking + watch design yourself.
>>
>>62226582
Shitter is essentially some cheap ass quartz or generic mechanical watch that all use the same movements (ETA) and just put their no-name brand on the dial.

Fashion watches are a sub-set as they are purely for looks, not horology.
>>
>>62226692
Thanks, I'll keep lurking.
>>
>>62226582
>How do you anon's on /wt/ define shitters?
Watches who nobody who knows anything would care about. Non-collectible, special in no way, or styled completely inappropriately.

They include watches at almost every price, in some price ranges the majority of models offered are shitters.

Problems with the watch you posted:
>dress-styling in a clownish 44mm size
>tourbillon-bridge on a non-toubillon watch
>"open heart" dial showing literally nothing special
>hamfisted short seconds hand to accommodate the fake tourbillon bridge
>costs as much as a service, and worth even less

You really have to experience a lot of watches before being able to tell what makes a shitter.
>>
>>62226692
Memes aside is every ETA a shitter though?
>>
I want to try an automatic watch, but I'm unsure. I think the budget ones to try are Seiko, orient, and sistem51.

How much do I lose by getting the entry level versions of an automatic?
>>
>>62226782
Seiko 5's are pretty cheap. Get a new one on amazon for like $65
>>
>>62226781
The movement itself is good, it's just that companies like IWC and Panerai are price gouging to the extreme. No way a $1000 watch can cost $7000+. Panerai fakes are getting so good that even Panerai collectors can't tell.
>>
>>62226781
No. Some watches take the generic movement and customize it, others are nice looking well made cases and dials.

However there are plenty of carbon copy watches that only differ in the brand logo and a several thousand dollars that use exactly the same ETA movement.

>You really have to experience a lot of watches before being able to tell what makes a shitter.

That seems reasonable. The watch was a gift from my gf and at the time I did not know anything about watches and quality of companies. So no great loss there.
Besides my g-shock I use for work the first watch I have gotten was a Orient producer.

Good morning /wt/

Did you all sleep okay?
>>
>>62227914
Nice. That is one clean looking watch. And you can't go wrong with Seiko 5s.

All those Daniel Wellington fags could learn a thing or two from you.
>>
>>62227482

Every one of them I've seen has had a misaligned chapter ring. If you're going to mod it later with an unmarked ring or you can look past it that's fine, but I've not seen a single new turtle I'd buy.

The design is top notch though. Comfortable, drilled lugs, good movement, etc. Execution is lacking.

Remember that the eta Tudors are extensively modified; it's not like they just plunked in a stock eta fresh out of the box. This counts for something imo. I prefer in house, sure, but a modified eta from poorman's rolex is certainly better than most other brands with their bullshit "calibres" that are just stock eta with perhaps a branded rotor, if that at all.

Numales are men who want to be seen as intentionally meek and refined, and consider hyper-masculine men to be "insecure".

The truth is that their constitution is too weak for violence, so they frantically construct a "masculine" identity around their complete physical vulnerability.

My wife's family was elder money but as her mother was the 4th child she only got two Omegas, a sporty Geneve Dynamic and a classic Constellation.

The best ones (the PP and the Lange) were for the firstborn and her cousins will inherit them.
>>
>>62234067
Probably depends on the Seiko. Some Seiko 5s have been pushed up in price enough that a BJWAF would be better. However, the Beijing ones that I like aesthetically are up above $300 and they have to compete with the SARB line. I have heard that the they are somewhat delicate, but the movements seem very nice.

1-piece straps are better than 2-piece straps.
>>
>>62238919
You don't even get the markings in the right spots let alone hands index correctly on a chink shitter. You don't get the same materials. You don't get the same chrispness of the markings. You don't get the same quality strap. You don't get edges that aren't razor sharp. You don't get sapphire crystal. You don't get a sapphire case back.
But sure other than all the things that separate it from a chink shitter it is exactly the same.
Just like how a quartz Casio diver is the same as a Rolex Sub once you remove all the things that makes the Rolex Sub a Rolex Sub.
I'm not saying you can't find things that are very similar for cheaper but not from a $50 quartz chink shitter.

>movement doesn't unnecessarily fill the case triggering autists
A larger movement would be excess for the sake of excess. It wouldn't be noticible at all even if it was larger. We were talking about the quality of the parts of the watch, that movement is a good movement and is well finished.
Do you really expect watch companies to add a new movement to production whenever they make a new watch of a different size even though they have a movement that is more than suitable already in production?
And the tiny quartz movements in Ali express watches don't meet many if any of the above things, great comparison though my dude. It's not like it has a large plastic spacer like them either, the case was designed with that movement in mind.

>movement is powerful enough to drive the hands
woah, it meets a bare minimum requirement.
>movement is well finished
The shitty perlage on the large metal parts is seagull-tier. You can also see the shitty beveling even in that low-res a photo. Not worth the money at all.
>movement is this
so innovative in dress watch movements.
>has suitable power reserve
I like how you have set the bar at 'the minimum passable.' They could easily have used all the extra space to improve it. They chose filler instead.
>movement is accurate, regulated, etc.
woah, the standard for high-end watches. fucking revolutionary.
>larger movement would be excess for the sake of excess
No, that is what they have done with the front side of the watch. They don't have to design an entire movement. They could easily design a modification to the movement so that it could take advantage of the added space. Instead they added a useless chunk of metal.
I expect better from a company that charges the prices Patek does. There is nothing wrong with a small spacer, but with that much space wasted in the watch it is nothing but poor design.
>chinkshit doest meet the stuff I said.
woah now, just because a 2¢ quartz movement isn't the same as a handmade mechanical movement doesn't change the fact that the movement is way to small for the case. Nice attempt at misdirection I guess?
>the case was designed with that movement in mind
so they designed on oversized case and a SPACER (wow, Swiss innovation at its finest!) for an older movement so they had to do even less work.

The thing is that in recent years patek increased the amount of watches they produce dramatically (more than double iirc, you can search up past threads for more details). So of course the quality suffers as a result. You can even compare old calatravas to the new ones to see the difference.
>>

Do some research about quartz vs mechanical. Diver might not be as good for office. Though these days people are more lax about that sort of thing. Maybe look into some omega seamasters. Again a single unsourced picture is hardly proof of anything. That could be a third party bracelet for all we know.

Any suggestions for a cheap Aliexpress watch? Can be any style. Under $20 please.
>>
>>62241448
I'm not a guy that said he sees them everyday (you are). I'm just calling a cunt (you) out on his (your) claim.
Post some form of proof or fuck off with your "aktualy muh unkle" bullshit.

I'm fairly sure anything under $20 would already be classified as cheap.

I came in about when you said your "muh uncle" shit, I don't see how asking you to provide proof is dense, it's a pretty obvious thing to expect from saying your uncle is a super in the know and saying that everyone is wrong.
Or are you saying I'm dense for expecting you to have been truthful and providing proof?
>>
Has anyone tried a sistem 51 watch? The first automatic watch done on an assembly line, it only has 51 moving parts.
>>
>>62241514
He's not dense. He's trolling you. Don't you recognize his posting style by now? Just stop feeding him (You)s.
>>
>>62241584
They're only like 120 bucks for what is apparently a fine working watch with what I find to be a subtle, minimalist, almost elegantly understated style
>>
>>62241599
That's incredibly expensive for something done in an assembly line
>>
>>62241586
Looking back, I fun when arguing involved posting pics of cool watches, before it devolved.

I've got a 7 inch wrist so I'm really hoping it looks a bit smaller on me. im really excited for the steel bracelet too, would you recommend replacing it with a better bracelet or keep the seiko?
>>
>>62241663
Am I the only one that thinks that looks abhorrent? It's basically a $30k circuit board.
>>
>>62241520
i would of considered that one too brother if it was available but i'm lovin the white dial!
>>
>>62241252
im pretty sure he was saying that that particular watch is an abomination that should never be considered in any dressy circumstance
>>
>>62241722
Some of them go for ~8k, but I do think it could have been better. It also has some very cool features. I also like the dial side, but the fact that they decorated a quartz movement so well is commendable.
>>
>>62241711
If that's the quartz one, then I hope you know that they're meant to be tossed after the battery dies; if it's the automatic one, then they have kind of a reputation for being as accurate as a Vostok but without the water resistance.
I honestly suggest something like the aluminum MK1 since it's still the field watch style, but you can actually change the battery and it's less likely to shit the bed.
>>
>>62241711
Nylon strap has got to go but otherwise nice
>>
>>62242061

I thought they were supposed to be pretty accurate

Is there some way for me to find the movement on this one?
>>
>>62242625
The case back is covering the markings that should be around the balance wheel area. It looks like an ETA. A little more info on the watch would help.
>>
>>62234550
what clasps are those? is it expensive?
>>
>>62242853
The back already has the information. I tried to look up the watch but haven't found the right details. It's a Fendi Orologi 200g, the inside says 25 jewels Swiss made.
>>
>>62242152
Like most issued field watches from the 20th century, the quartz General Purpose isn't meant to be fixed or serviced in any way once something goes wrong, so they're tossed like they're a $10 Casio and the soldier is given a new one. Their higher end stainless models are obviously meant to be serviced though.
I also think you can actually pry the back off of the GP, but I have a feeling you'd chew up the plastic case and damage what little weather sealing the watch already has.
>>
>>62225782
So how accurate is a mechanical watch supposed to be anyways? Mine drifts about a minute or two every week, what's your experiance?
>>
>>62241663
That's an expensive shitter.

depends. your average chinese, swiss or japanese mechanial movement new should be around +/-5 sec a day. They claim the tolerances are much greater- so 2 minutes off a week isnt terrible.

This watch stopped ticking over a year ago, and I fixed it by tapping it on a desk. It has been running well ever since, and it is fairly accurate. It takes it a few days to be off by a minute. I wish that the case was stainless steel instead of chrome plated brass, but other than that, I like it a lot.

hey /wt/i saw someone else do this (pic related) and i want to give my snkl41 have the same style that the grand seiko has, with the blue second hand and diamond hour/minute hands. how would i go about aquiring these hands? how do i make sure they fit?
>>
>>62241716
you'll know about the size when you put it on brother, about the bracelet heck if you can afford and find a better bracelet just go for it i think it'll look awesome with a similar cleaner oyster bracelet with solid links, i like the original clasp with the Seiko 5 stamped on it so i'm all good with the stock bracelet for now.
>>
>>62243344
hey brother honestly i'd ask a watch repair shop if they can do the mod as for the hands you'd have to probably source it online or perhaps the watch repair guy might know how to get them *top left 41 pic is me

well brother if no one here has any great tips i'd start with the watch repair shop, they're in the industry they should know how to get these parts. Good luck to you, i'll try asking next time i visit the local watch shops. Any pics of your 41?
>>
>>62243783
I've got the regular display, pretty good bang around tool watch funny thing is my toddler daughter played with it ONE time and the LED light stopped working after that. Shops tell me the LED needs to be replaced. Did you just get yours?
>>
>>62243889
It's a few weeks old and I'm loving it. Granted the negative display isn't that visible in the dark without illumination, I like the stealthy look.
I personally haven't had any issues with the LED so far.
>>
>>62243905
as they say you get what you pay for and it's a solid watch that's not too heavy on the wrist. I'm just bummed my blue light LED doesn't work anymore but i'll still wear it for the pool during the day. PS it's the stealthy dark grey color that got me in the first place too, not a fan of the neon colored ones. EVER.
>>
>>62235124

dude i used to think Fossil's were the shit until i discovered this thread and real horology, granted they are 'nice' looking watches but for the same amount of money or less you can get a far better 'time piece' and yes my wife recently gifted me an all black Fossil which is impossible to read, i'll keep it for the emotional value but it's shit therefore a SHITTER.

Way too much money for what you get. The Chinese can churn out full satinless automatics they sell for $20, so you can imagine how much they cost to begin with.
