I was reading an article about the big "rockyou" hack, where 32 million passwords were stolen. There this paragraph in the article:

A website will block you if you access it too many times per second. SSH should as well, if the admin is worth their shit. Either way someone should notice.

If you found a site that does not lock you out, or a service that doesn't, you can try hydra or some other library attack software.

Sure, what OS? JACK can do that on GNU/Linux, and MacOS lets you do it by default through the advanced sound settings and creating an aggregate source. Not sure about Windows.

They are pretty cheap, it's worth exploring before a motherboard. Worst case scenario you end up with a spare CMOS battery.

It shouldn't matter but some motherboards will refuse to go to POST if the CMOS battery is dead.

So I have a decapitated laptop that I used to dualboot off of, and since it has no screen, it doesn't quite work well with external displays for things like the bios and such.
I want to just fix the windows install that's on it and make it only boot into windows for my little brother, and since it doesn't have a display, I was wanting to see if I could repair the MBR using virtualbox, but for the life of me, I can't get it to boot off the hard drive in an external enclosure. Is there anyway of fixing it with virtualbox?

I'm in a bit of shit with an old laptop.

First it started with a high disk usage issue for a few days, on and off, slow as fuck, still running though

Now today it won't boot, crashes anytime I try to boot, even in safe mode, gets even better.

Can't use any recovery options because the only account isn't considered an admin account, and without access to a command prompt (which requires admin permission in recovery options) to give an account admin rights I can't do shit to fix any of the boot issues.

I tried loading windows 10 onto a USB drive, but whenever I try to use it to reset the PC, it just says it's invalid.

The fuck are even any options I have? Help an autist in need.

Has anyone figured out how to fix stuttering videos in the Youtube app on the Nexus 7 (2013)? It's been getting worse and more frequent with recent updates, and I can no longer watch 720p when the "threshold" has been crossed.
Clearing the app's cache fixes this temporarily, and I've noticed that it used to reach 300 or so megabytes, whereas now it only hits about 80 before the app grinds to a halt.

how can I make sound not to pop, crack and stutter if I run windows in a virtual machine using pci passtrough for one of my videocard. I tried using the virtual sound card which sounded like shit. Hey guys I think I did something wrong, I dual booted my new PC today with Ubuntu and Windows 7 and it works 100% fine, got Ubuntu set up how I like and decided to get back onto Windows 7 to play some vidya and end the night, finally get tired so I put my PC to sleep.. Or I try, it automatically turns back on.

What can affect DVD-R's usability? I had a fairly new disc that worked fine, but when I tried it again after about two months break, the system didn't recognize it. The headset remote functions in chrome os.
The headset remote seems to work on a per application basis which makes sense considering how it works.
I was surprised pulseaudio didn't have this functionality (at least not by default). So I am asking if the functionality is there but I need to enable it.

What's a reliable, cheap, and private place to purchase domain names from? I'm currently with 1&1 and holy shit they are fucking terrible. Their website doesn't even work most of the time so I can't even change my DNS settings without going through their shitty support team.

So I just experienced something weird (to me).

On my tablet, sometimes it lets me save dupes with the same filename. I've noticed it happen, but thought nothing of it. However a few weeks ago I moved my tablet's image contents to my laptop. I'm not sure if because it was done in increments or because it's only copying that it worked with this, but it worked.

When opening a specific image, it was a .jpeg with an incorrect file extension, so irfanview wanted to change it, so I allowed it to. But it failed. So I moved the file out, then tried it and it succeeded, but I couldn't move it back since there was a dupe there already (doujin filenames of "1 (1).png" etc.). So I had to let Windows change the filename and thankfully the date stayed the same after doing that but my question is, will having duplicate filenames in Window cause me to lose my data in any way? Is there any problem in this regard otherwise I should be aware of? Thanks.

by default, windows displays files like "picture.jpg" as simply "picture"
if you have "picture.jpg.png" and "picture.jpg.jpg", they will both appear as "picture.jpg"

programs like web browsers don't pay much attention to filenames, they detect file types my magic numbers, which is more reliable

Nightly resaves it as a jpeg correctly, but it seems Chrome mobile incorrectly saved it as a .png, hence the rename prompt in irfanview when viewed on desktop. I just upgraded and I've got an asus ddr3 mobo (p8z77-v), Enermax case, corsair gs600 psu, an i3 processor and 16 gigs of ram in the board, not sure the retail but I'd put it at less than 150, so you can buy a gpu and hdd and have a decent rig for less than 300. I'd sell em to you and have it shipped asap but sales on 4chan are sketchy. The only thing is, people will call you stupid for buying a ddr3 board in 2017, but if all you want is something to game on, I ran The Witcher 3 on high with a 1060.

I've been all over google and have tried several different things.

Running win10.
Logitech k120 keyboard worked last night
This morning it doesn't work
It accesses and works within the BIOS but doesn't work once win10 starts up
idiot lights (num lock, scroll lock, caps lock) toggle while in BIOS, but are unresponsive once win10 loads. If numlock is on (it turns on by default) I can't turn it off with the key, if it's off it doesn't turn back on. Caps and Num both do nothing.

This is consistent across all USB ports connected directly to the mobo (the four on the back of the pc)

The keyboard works fine when plugged into my laptop, which is also running win10

System says drivers are up to date. Uninstalling and scanning for system changes returns an up-to-date driver

Tried a suggestion that entailed going into the Registry for 'keyboard' and deleting one labeled LowFilter

Before I did that the system said
"Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged"

When I googled that error, I found it usually comes up for your CD-ROM drive, that's where I saw the suggestion to clear "Low/High Filter" registry entries.

Another website said "if you don't see Low or High Filter entries, delete everything you see"

so now that I've just done that, my mouse optics is on but windows isn't responding to moving or clicking. I was very definitely in the heading labeled "Keyboard"


What the fuck have I done? Pic unrelated, I don't have any decent pics saved to my laptop, which is what I'm currently on.

I know that Windows 7 is a botnet, but how much worse is Windows 10? Can I disable it to the point where it's only as bad as 7?

After a certain amount of time or a some trigger that I don't know of yet my Win10 starts behaving oddly and I'll need to restart eventually.

Some things that happen:
Chrome stops responding
Task manager opens and I can interact with it but nothing happens (eg. killing chrome processes does nothing and trying again comes up with an error message)
Some parts of context menus (like 'End this task') will not disappear
Clicking on the taskbar locks it up as well.

Once my mouse stopped working and a second later my screen went into energy saving mode.

Could it be my graphics card or something stupid that Win10 does (I've disabled those two services everyone recommends)?

Okay so I made a mini build for a friend with a sapphire rx 460 inside the matx case. Problem is that the mobo has rail placement as PCI-E 1x is on top and the vga port is below it so it shifted one row and now its too close to the bottom of the case and i think it cant draw enough air. I know how to wipe metadata (properties > remove all personal information) but that merely creates a copy of the file with adjusted metadata.
