my job requires i hand my phone over to someone to have them sign work orders. right now i have an iphone se and its cool amd all but its not phenominal for workflow and the app market is pretty slim. thinking of rolling android.

united states, verizon.

looking for a powerhouse phone that isnt snap i. half thin, has a good camera, and a stylus. would like to be able to ise it for a few years, and can take a beating, with solid battery life. i like my phones built like a walkie, and can go a day and a half without recharging.

recommendations? my last android was an atrix 2 like 5 years ago. was cool but it eventually ahit itself.

recommendations? would also like to maintain a small size since im usually out working, on a bike, or innawoods.

i like geographic information systems too

I'm split on SD card and removable battery, but as long as the phone has good storage and battery life it doesn't matter if I can remove the SD or Battery

So what's the most decent phone around 200 €? (with camera being kind of a priority)
So far I put Xaiomi Redmi 4X, Moto E4 Plus, Moto G5 and Samsung Galaxy J5 2017 into the list
>>
>>62221047

Ask yourself this:

Are you certain you are going to use every single feature of the phone more than once? What is more important for you: the newest phone or one that is still kind of new and is still decent for every day tasks?

Sometimes writing out a list helps to settle things...

Much of photography is about timing and being in the right place at the right time. Having a cellphone that can take decent pictures is obviously better than a phone that can't. I know this probably comes up a lot, but.

LG G6 or LG V20?

I keep finding reasons to prefer one over the other, and then the other way around.

Removable battery seems extremely useful, applicable, and otherwise safe. While it's hard to imagine the fixed battery will suck and die quick and easy anyway.

Specs seem generally better on the G6, but not by much. Is it enough to negate the benefits of the V20?

Which one is better for audio and photography? I feel like it's the V20, but there's a lot to consider and I'm still not entirely sure.

Does the 18:9 ratio on the G6 feel better or worse? Somehow I want to hate it because it feels like a major compatibility issue. Things will likely all fit with a nice black border due to the minor offset. Though the V20 has a lot of black edges on the device itself. Does this even matter? And the V20 isn't curved edges either, so perhaps slightly more screen real estate all together anyway?

The second screen seems very useful and applicable.

Is the water resistance on the G6 that much more beneficial? If I can't "literally" swim with it, what's the big deal?

What else should I be considering? What am I missing?

What are the major reasons to get one over the other? Need some serious guidance here.

I feel like the "niche" market could apply to me better, and I care a lot about photo and audio quality, but then I'm not sure they are super important on my phone vs. my actual DSLR and daily driver laptop/ desktop with high quality headphones.

Help lads. ;_;
>>
>>62221480
You probably won't understand most of it but be my guest
https://www.tsbohemia.cz/chytra-zarizeni-telefony-a-tablety_c32735.html

Things like dual sim don't matter obviously, mostly just good screen, good battery life and decent camera for that price range. She had S3 Neo before and that was her most beloved phone.

Note: 1 € = ~26 CZK

If I can somehow magically convince her to let me pay for a part of it I wouldn't think twice about pushing G5 Plus to her instead of having to do all of this comparison of midrange phones.
>>
>>62221530
Well the rear camera on the G5 Plus is decent but the front one is kinda shit (only 5MP too)
>>
>>62221621
Yeah that's what frustrates me about this picking. On one side something is good, on other side front camera is 5 MP. I was looking at Moto E4 Plus as well and it seems great, but it can only record up to 720p. Now, I am not sure if that's really a problem but something doesn't feel right about buying that. So frustrated.
>>
>>62221530
among those options RN4 global (SD625) is the best option.
>>
>>62221652
I have the regular G5 and it's pretty good, the camera is meh but on daylight it's ok. The G5 Plus gets more praise tho, and the camera is an update so idk.
>>
>>62221530
Sony XA1 is worth looking at, 23mp on the back and 8mp on the front.
>>
Does Quickpic send data to cheetah?
>>
>>62221658
>>62221723
mm yeah front cameras seem to be quite similar on all of the smartphones in that price range with an odd Galaxy J5 with 13MP front camera. So I guess 5MP for front is the norm, well back camera is more important of course so not sure about that, but it also seems quite similar in quality in all of those phones.

RN4 Global seems quite an attractive option, if not for her Samsung bias and G5 Plus is only in talks if her dignity ever allows it.

I myself am with Moto G3 back from 2015 and it's meh but at that time it was topping the budget phone top lists and that's what G5 Plus keeps doing now. Seems like their G line always gets the best praise.

>>62221748
Camera seems nice, although battery is a bit too much on low end. Would rather have an average camera in exchange for that 3000-4000 mAh. Nice option as well, though.

>>
>>62221841
the battery life isn't as bad as 2300mah might make it sound, the chipset is very power efficient, the display is only 720p and Sony is good with optimizing their phones. But obviously, 4000mah will be better.

Right now I'm on a verizon plan with a galaxy S4 that I got about 4 years ago. I'm moving to Cricket soon, but my phone didn't fully accept the cricket test sims (showed phone signal but no data).

The S4 still works just fine with no noticeable glitches or malfunctions, and I wouldn't want to get a new phone if it's not necessary, but now I'm thinking of upgrading rather than taking a chance with a new and possibly limited connection.

I'm debating between the Galaxy J7 (Halo) or the LG X Charge

I'm leaning toward the LG because my job normally puts me out in the woods or camping for a week at a time, and the large battery would be helpful. I don't use my S4 for much, just texts, email, maps, and some light web browsing. Having a decent camera would be nice, too.

The LG is also cheaper, I could get it for $100 if I buy it when I sign up. If I tried the S4 and couldn't connect it to the Cricket network, the LG would be $130. The Galaxy Halo would cost me $170 either way

Any advice for one over the other? Or should I just try to keep the S4? I want to keep my budget under 200 if at all possible

http://downloads.oneplus.net/oneplus-5/oneplus_5_oxygenos_4.5.10/

The jelly effect can't be fixed. It's hardware not software, all OP5s have the screen mounted upside down, that's the reason.

The OnePlus 5 is really awesome for me, but doesn't work as well as I would like with my carrier.

I am looking for a durable phone with good battery life and a nice screen. 5.5" and above would be very nice too. $500 price range, give or take $50 ish.

Anyone have any suggestions?

The battery in my Galaxy S7 has really gone down the shitter in the past 2 months. I found out the battery is now rated at 2500mAh and have had 300 charge cycles in the year and a half of ownership.

I really dont know what to do. I was one of the idiots that didnt really care when removable batteries went away as I never had an issue before but I dont want to spend flagship money on another phone that wont get me 2 years usage. I dont want to go for a chink phone.

I really not sure what to go for as id like something around the same size of the s7 if not a little bit smaller. Pixel seems to be the choice but they never seem to be a good price.

Need some advice here. Looking for LG V20 cases. Most of them that seem protective, also seem ugly. Slight compromise here, I also felt like trying one of those customized phone skins (ie. slickwraps) but that would require a clear case, which I usually feel are cheaper and less protective. Granted, this is an opinion based on no factual or functional evidence, and just sort of acquired.
>>
Can Oneplus's stock rom (color os or whatever the fuck they call it) be trusted? I dont trust chink companies

I was considering getting a OP5 for my mom and would prefer it if she could just keep it stock and not have to deal with issues of stuff not working or breaking with a custom rom.
>>
>>62225172
You can probably still replace the battery.

Either way with your new battery you shouldn't quickcharge so much. Use a 500mah charger if you're charging overnight.
>>
>>62225224

Try Casefanatic.com.
>>

Just replace the battery? It's not too difficult.

Manufacturers should actually offer this as a service, allowing you to replace your battery for 2 years (not for free though I guess).

Get the cheaper phone with the removable battery. The G6 battery isn't all that. Specs are pretty similar and the V20 has better audio, period. Water resistance is just in case for some reason you were to fall in water or the phone were to fall in water without you wanting/meaning for it to happen. Can change the screen ratio on the G6 though if you decide to go that route. Both phones have microSD slots so should be no issues with memory whatever route you go. Blind tests did show that the G6 performed rather well if the camera matters.

ditch the axon 7 asap get a real phone
>>
>>62227407
not the other guy but whats wrong with the axon 7?
>>
>>62227350
They are your only choices really if you want small phones with flagship performance.

Haven't heard bad things about the X Compact. The predecessor Z5C may be called dogshit because of the SD810 that gets hot and throttles + only 2gb ram. X compact apparently doesn't have these problems. No 4k recording on it though. Another thing to know is Sony cameras are bad in low-light. But dedicated shutter button is nice. The fingerprint sensor is in the power button which is cool. It's disabled in America but you can flash another regions' rom to get it back with no issues.
>>
>>62227504
everything
it was only memed here to see who would be dumb enough to fall for it
>>
>>62227528
Nice.

I don't use the camera and I don't care for the botnet fingerprint sensor anyways, so these are non-issues for me.

I knew there were some issues with the Z5 Compact, it's nice to know that they aren't in the X Compact.

Is it even possible to root huawei y3 lua l21? I can't even get the bootloader code from the official site because it says that my imei is wrong, and no root program is seems to be working straight out of the box. I'm starting to get really desperate because no matter how I format it all that happens is just turn everything to default while keeping everything in storage and even has the last fucking page I opened in my browser.

It's solid. Just has a cheap feel. I didn't run into issues with mine until almost 2 years after I got it. Sucks that it only barely lasted 2 years though, wouldn't have minded using it longer. A big issue is the battery coming a bit loose which will cause booting issues. As for software caused bootloop, not too sure. I've heard it's possible but not likely.

Oppo R11, apparently it's not compatible with the Swype keyboard I've been using for years. It's now frozen on the screen and I can't reset the phone. Nor can I take the battery out

I have an iPhone 6 but want to give Android a shot once it dies (might be a while though so i may just use this as reference). What's the best phone strategy for me?

1) The only google services I use are gmail and youtube (and maps but i dont login.)
2) I don't want any other google botnet
3) I want the best non-chink budget android
4) I want the OS (custom ROM I assume) to provide consistent and longlasting software support/updates like Apple

Advice would be appreciated, thanks /g/

Lads how do I stop obsessing myself over phones and specs?
I literally don't have more than 2 months with my G4 Play and I already want a new phone. Even if this phone does anything I want without any issue at all.

I feel like I'm just sperging about specs, even if I won't be really be needing them at all for what I do.

And then if I get a shinier phone, I'll just realize there are even better ones out there and the cycle will repeat

>4) I want the OS (custom ROM I assume) to provide consistent and longlasting software support/updates
Oh nvm
>>
>>62228215
Why can't you reset the phone?
Battery take too long to die?
>>
>>62228238
I can put lineage on it, no? I thought lineage got updates, even when android versions change? I might be completely wrong...
>>
>>62228246
It's at a full charge. Can't reset the phone because I can't turn it off and there doesn't appear to be a button press for reboot. Screen is stuck on the keyboard, and doesn't seem to register any touch outside of swiping up and down to bring up the notification menu or settings. Hopefully I can find a stock ROM for it cause ColorOS is feeling like a bit of a sham right now
>>
>>62228265
Oh.. most phones if you hold down the power button and volume down button for a while will cause the phone to hard reset. Try that.
>>
>>62228226

Try a recent LG like G6 or V20 as a lot of those models have official LineageOS support.

https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/

Also, there's Resurrection Remix but they list the devices without model names and numbers on SourceForge: http://www.resurrectionremix.com/

(They use Github for source code and SourceForge for file hosting...)

Is the SD835 more power efficient than a SD821/820?
Also which phone is the cheapest with SD835/821/820
>>
>>62228227
Keep the phone until it becomes harder and harder to do your daily stuff with. If it doesn't, keep using it until it breaks or otherwise.
>>
>>62228285
Thanks, I will look through these. What's your opinion on LG vs Motorola for best budget androids?
>>
>>62228280
Nothing, however I found a workaround by getting someone to call me, then hitting reply on the home screen since I was unable to answer the phone. Hopefully that's the only issue I have with the phone, cause I've really liked it as I was playing with it.
>>
>>62228303

How budget are we talking about here and what are the most important features for you? Removable batter? SD card slot? Headphone jack?

LG V20 should be running cheaper now that the V30 is out and it has some models with support for LineageOS (be sure to thoroughly check the models!)
>>
>>62228303
>>62228341

LG V20 specs if you're interested:

>>
>>62228309
Apparently it's a common issue with ColorOS, community forums on other devices. Could be the same thing on the R11. Says some files are bad and need to do a clean reinstall. As far as turning it off and back on, only thing I was able to find was what I suggested earlier, hold either the power button or the power and down button for about 10 seconds until it reboots.
>>
>>62228303
V20 was one of the last phones to come out last year. So spec wise, it's basically on par with most flagships released this year. Price wise, should be way cheaper now that all these flagships have been released/are being released.
>>
>>62228341
>>62228351
Thanks. The world of android is very confusing coming from an iphone. I got tired of getting the most premium phones yet not even using them to their full potential (im not a photographer or a social media whore). I just want a fast phone with good battery life, other options i'm not sure about yet (screen, SD slot, removable battery). I'll use your input to help figure it out.
>>
>>62228227
What the fuck do you use your phone for?
I'm just happy that mine has 1080p screen and can run basic apps.
>>
>>62228413
Worst part is, it doesn't look like there's any other ROM options for the R11 right now. And I'm fairly certain the store I bought it from won't accept
>this fucking piece of shit freezes up when I try to use a non-bundled keyboard
as a reason to try to get an exchange. Really regretting not going for the V20 right now
>>
>>62228426
Is Amazon the best place to purchase such phones?
>>
>>62228472
That's a good place to start, I'd shop around your local carriers though. Some of them may still have them in stock. Plus, dumb discounts like if you're a loyal customer, if the company you work for has an account with them they can sometimes grant you discounts, some offer different student discounts, hell even first time customer discounts. Just have to ask.
>>
>>62228488
sweet
>>
>>62228464
I'd explain it as software issues are making you unhappy with your purchase, ask for either a replacement, your money back(store credit maybe?), or a phone of equal value but I guess that could be counted as store credit. Be polite but firm, if you're an asshole they'll treat you like an asshole. If it's a big name retailer you could always call their corporate customer support number. They'll usually speed the process up.
>>
>>62228500
I'll hit them up tomorrow see if I'm able to sort something out with them. It also has a big "will not exchange or refund the item if seal is broken" sticker on the box so I hope that doesn't dick me over. I'm really disappointed cause it's a solid phone. If it wasn't for ColorOS I'd be recommending it to everyone
>>
>>62228516
Ball game also changes when it becomes a software issue. In part it's the 3rd part keyboard, but also just their shitty OS.
>>
>>62228537
I'll see how I go with it overnight, might just be worth it using a different keyboard and sticking with this one until Lineage starts doing ROMs for the phone. If I'm unhappy with it long term, I'll just give it to my mother. The knock-off iOS will make it incredibly easy to use for her
>>
>>62228472

ebay is another option and you still get buyer protection from them on top of PayPal if you use PayPal.
>>
>>62228430

GSMArena has a phone finder with a lot of options so you can enter in what features you prefer on a phone and it should find you what you want.
>>
Redmi Note 4 came in the mail. The best phone you can get for this price. It's insane. You can power a village in africa for a month with that battery and MIUI isn't that terrible. That comming from a nexus 5 user with clean android. Well done Xiaomi. The only cancer is unlocking the bootloader. If anything goes wrong you have to wait 72 hours for your next try.
>>
>>62228285
Does Los for the v20 have second screen support yet?
>>
>>62228794

I am not sure but there is a list you can look through that shows what was changed: https://download.lineageos.org/us996/changes/

The other V20 models are listed here: https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/ and you can look through their changes as well.

As a last resort you can try asking on the r/lineageos subreddit or looking through it as LineageOS devs answer questions in that subreddit.
>>
>>62228825
I dont have mine yet, itll be my first android phone so idk how to root it let alone put a custom os. Im just curious cause I read that you lose the second screen functions a couple days ago.

What's the deal with location on android?

Google maps needs high accuracy, you can't do location tags with your camera. So what is the point of having the gps only option (nothing seems to work on my galaxy)
>>
>>62228844
For LGs you need to go here for unlocking the bootloader: http://developer.lge.com/resource/mobile/RetrieveBootloader.dev
>>
>>62228886
That DRM protection thing seems like it would be a problem, do you actually lose function with some apps?
>>
>>62228919

I am seeing reports of people losing the fingerprint function after rooting but I am not sure if it's an unskilled user who messed up when rooting the phone.

My battery seems to drain way faster when it's below 30 or so percent, is this normal?
>>
>>62229087

Check what shit you got running in the background. The more apps you got running in the background, the faster the battery drains.

Turn off wifi and bluetooth if you are not using them.

>>62228295
Yes, it is more power efficient. Cheapest SD835 phone is Mi6 followed by Nubia Z17 and Oneplus 5. Cheapest with SD821 is Mi5s and LePro 3. With SD820, Le Max 2 and ZUK Z2.
