http://wccftech.com/intels-core-i9-7980xe-flagship-18-core-cpu-gets-first-benchmarks/

The 7980XE has been benched, and can achieve 4.8Ghz on all 18 cores while staying under 90C, turns out Intel came to their senses and soldered this one. At these clock speeds it will piss and shit all over 1950X without even trying.

Threadrippers performance crown is about to be taken away and buried for good, it didn't take too long. Thanks based Brian, can't wait for you to release 8700K and wipe away any reason to buy any AMD processor.

>ryzen = btfo
>vega = btfo
>threadripper = soon to be btfo

What's next for AMD?
>>
>What's next for AMD?
Probably a 24 core threadripper CPU.

>turns out Intel came to their senses and soldered this one
Nope, they just handed out golden silicon to OCers like they did with the i9-7900X which also showed impressive OC results before release. And then turned out to be a nuclear spaceheater with anything less than a custom waterloop.

The fact that retards like you keep falling for it just shows you've got the mental capacity of roadkill.

It's still not soldered?...

For the 12 seconds the benchmark is running, after which your computer does this.
>>
>>62218615
Of course it's not, Intel says solder handles thermal expansion worse and lasts less than TIM, since Skylake-X is just a derivative of Skylake Xeons, which are supposed to last for a very long time, it's counterproductive for them to use solder which lasts for a shorter amount of time than TIM

Of course there's no way they'll retool their assembly line for the 61 people buying a $2000 Skylake-X, at least they better hope they even reach that since those $2000 Skylake's are going against 32 core EPYCs..
>>
>>62218458
>Literally 1000W
Su can just release 24 and 32 core threadrippers in weeks
>>
>>62219245
But they won't, Intel's $2k portable tokamak competes with 7551p.
Well, "competes".
>>
>>62219283
I doubt they can clock 7980 higher than 4.2-4.3 without ln2
>>
>>62219305
Direct die cooling with HUEG custom loop would do.
I guess.
>>
Shut the fuck up about AYYMD IS FINISHED!!!11!! INTEL IS DONE!!11!11!1. Literally nobody cares, the only people that do are preteens who think they're being LE FUNNY XDD by shitting up /g/ with this shit. Just stop.

>Intel says solder handles thermal expansion worse and lasts less than TIM
This is a myth based on some shitty article where they put the solder through ridiculous temp cycles.

>A thermal cycle is performed by going from -55 °C to 125 °C while each temperature is hold for 15 minutes

You will NEVER see this happen on a real CPU unless you're popping it in and out of liquid nitrogen and/or a fucking oven.

Well, guess I gotta order a 7900 now... damb.
>>
>>62219413
What could you possibly be doing with a 7900X that wouldn't be better served by Threadraper if you want multicore or a 7700K if you just wanted to game? Because the 10% extra FPS you get from a 7900X over a 1950X is not worth it .. at all.

He wants to keep his house warm.
>>
>>62219474
Ironically, the only thing the jizz TIM does is keep the CPU warm.
>>
>>62219385
So you're saying they don't have an argument to not solder?
Then why do they still use the mayo?
Has Intel used any excuse?
>>
>>62219519
Every time I see this my brain tries to resist believing it.
>>
>>62219613
because they're cheap fucks
>>
>>62219613
Their argument is that it handles more thermal cycles, in short it doesn't deteriorate over time.

It's bullshit, but it's bullshit they want you to believe.

That is great. If they are selling it for no more than 1000$, they will have a winner here. Otherwise, the under 90°C thing does not really compare to TR's 50°C.

Also, what is the power draw?

that's $2000USD

> Intel says solder handles thermal expansion worse and lasts less than TIM
Which is 100% horse cock.
Intel moved to TIM so that processors have a shelf life.
>>
Polymer based TIM does last longer than indium solder though, just not much longer and its thermal properties are absolute garbage.
>>
It's not out yet, those are golden samples, it's still not soldered, and it's twice the price.

In other news, having actually tried it, Epyc kicks Xeon ass for both raw performance and cost-effectiveness for everything except pure single-threaded (and nothing in server world is truly single-threaded). Intel fucked up real bad this generation; which is great, because now we'll actually get some movement.
>>
>>62220240

well, then it is DOA, unless it has double the performance as Threadripper

No, that's Epyc's job.
>>
>>62220397
It will be, at most, 20% faster in real-world workloads. It also still doesn't have as many PCIe lanes and has that shared x4 lanes to the CPU bullshit.
