The only thing that affects mpv is OpenGL support and the proprietary Nvidia drivers have better OpenGL performance and support than the open source ones (in fact, it's another major reason the open source driver is so unpopular).

yeah because nvidia doesn't publish documentation for their shit

Compare against AMD open source..
>>

>>

>>
>>62220580
I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure that an ICC profile describes your monitor's color space and capabilities. Having one configured should ensure that you get the most accurate colors possible. This sort of thing is important for artists and other people who work with stuff where color accuracy matters. Disclaimer though, I could be totally wrong about this since it's not something I mess with.

That said, I'm using a TV as a monitor and don't think I can get an ICC profile for it unless I use one of those calibration devices so I've never really bothered with it.

Try hwdec=no (or just commenting out the hwdec line since no is the default). That glitch resembles some stuff I've seen in github issues where basically it's just the hardware/driver's fault.

I am getting no output at all having added these lines. Is it possible I have mpv configured to be silent? I've checked through the manual and I know for sure I haven't used anything to intentionally silence mpv (in fact, I was trying to make it verbose and found I was already doing so...).

I really dont believe that linux or xorg are to blame for this. It only happens to firefox and the window itself is stell presant and responsive. The tabs however are replaced with a white screen and a loading circle whenever mpv is started and/or manipulated.
I believe it has something to do with one of the programs method of accessing threads or hardware acceleration, or maybe some bullshittery like opening libraries with exclusive read access.

FSRCNN should never introduce pixel shift. It's based on an in-place deconvolution network, rather than the typical “shift and interpolate” design of NNEDI3 / RAVU / super-xbr etc. (which leads to the shift towards the top-left).

(Note: Normally, this kind of pixel shift is corrected by the main scaler. The only scenario in which you won't see it being correct is when using scale=bilinear)
