4chan is now in the top 200 websites worldwide and is number 72 in the US. Where did everything go so wrong?

https://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/4chan.org
>>
It's the Simpsons Paradox. You begin as counterculture, but unless you quit while you are ahead, you eventually become the establishment. 4chan should have left with moot.
>>
>muh sekrit club

US election brought a ton of traffic in via /pol/, aka nu-/b/
>>
stupid shit like gamergate, scientology protest and other stuff from late 00's where people were wearing gay fucks masks brought more traffic

during the election /pol/ cucks made facebook pages inviting people to log on to 4chan

after that point it's nonstop politics, 'culture' talk on all the popular boards

So /p/ actually has janitors that take their jobs seriously and remove threads unrelated to the board's topic? The actions of a warehouse owned by a company that sells various items including photography equipment is not /p/ related, nor would discrimination at Amazon's warehouses /g/ related.

Reddit is the 4th most popular site in the US, the 8th most popular site in the world, and covers a large amount of topics (a lot of smaller communities have actually stopped using forums and started using subreddits). It's pretty basically guaranteed that a large portion of 4chan users also visit Reddit, even if they just lurk.

I had a screencap of a clever message somebody wrote one time. I'll just try to paraphrase it as well as I recall it. Of course it isn't 100% applicable to every case but in general

-People use their phones in places where they won't have much time to engage in a thread, so they'll quickly skim through them if that
-Same with posting, it's harder/slower to type on a phone so the messages are likely less in depth/shorter and again due to time and surroundings, not as well thought out. Due to not reading through the thread, the messages will also be more disconnected from the larger conversation and threads become essentially a collection of tweets blurted out from buses and bathrooms around the globe
-People don't keep as many images indexed and categorized on their phones so the same pictures will circulate more and more
-It's even easier to evade bans on phones which encourages shitposting

There was something more but I don't remember right now

It is, Reddit has become significantly more popular since then (went from ~100th place to 8th world wide and is now more popular than Yahoo in the US) and would likely be in the final picture, while it wasn't even in the notable mentions back then.

Except there's a massive difference due to the boards here being created and run by the site administration while on sites like Reddit and 8ch (which has also previously banned boards) the boards are created and run by the users.

Politics in general is retarded conversation.

Go to any other mainstream politics forum which (claims to) doesn't censor discussion or foster an entire forum of a certain viewpoint.

Shitposting everywhere, bad information, biased opinions, generalizing a group, racism, counter racism, trolling, etc.

Relatively speaking it very well could've been considering there were fewer people with access or need for an internet connection. 4chan was extraordinarily well known by 2007+ so there was probably significant migratory traffic from outside the SA and 4chan heads. I just don't think it was ever indexed or traffic was ever estimated.

This. 4chan is a site that was literally founded to get away from politics -- a place where weebs could talk about their interests without the wider moralfagging world bothering us. /pol/ has brought the moralfags here. Their only interest is themselves, and they do nothing but cry when anybody isn't acting exactly how they please and try to gain power for themselves to change that. These anti-4channers have used 4chan's openness to set up shop here, and now they infest every board with their tantrums.
>"Discuss technology? What's that? I want to talk about how someone in the technology sector isn't doing what I want!"
>"Discuss video games? No no no! Don't you see that someone made a video game that wasn't for me personally? WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THAT RIGHT NOW! The games don't matter, what matters is that everyone should be trying to cater to me!"

It's nothing but identity politics. /pol/tards can't simply have a unique personal opinion on what they do and don't like, they think that anything they don't like shouldn't exist and then do nothing but scream about how that needs to change right now. That's authoritarian politics and it doesn't fucking belong on site devoted to the free and unfettered discussion of hobbies.

There's nothing wrong with that but I feel it's very strange how few people on 4chan remember what made 4chan 4chan 10 years ago.

>how bad it's gotten
Speaking as someone who uses pol most after I got tired of the 10th grade faggotry on b years ago, to me its a good thing. Yes, it can be tiresome and I'm sure it's a lot more difficult to moderate than it used to be. Consider it really though: the gains you make have much more impact in the real world because of the numbers. One of the reasons I even use chans is to manually datamine (screenshot, copypastes, etc) and it's been much richer in the past few years than ever. It's definitely unwieldy on pol, b and probably here too though the hivemind is how the internet operates, so imho anyway this is generally for the good. I don't think many here will agree which is why I usually avoid g even though my business is infotech: the elitist LARPers, like pol's Nazis or b's 9gag XD - g is just too cynical and humorless for me usually but I always return for advice and inspiration. I'd say embrace the new traffic, especially here among the truly technically proficient. It could be made very productive and convert many to the ways of /g/entoo so to speak
>>
>>62226821
BTW real talk: I remember the old g. Yeah, that's gone forever. Unlikely to be done but a new board for coding would fix that, old g reminded me of a compsci/maths board. It's def different now, more digestible but probably annoying to oldfags. Good luck to them

Sure, it's not the "next myspace" in that it hasn't imploded within a short period of time, but it will happen.

It feels like we are going go have huge problems with all this racial polarisation, especially in a time when the coming generation will face greater obstacles than most generations. They are probably never going to experience stable employment, lower life expectancy than their parents, lower marriage rates than any generation in American history. They'll also be the first generation where a white majority won't exist, and in some areas, they'll be minorities in their age range. And all this SJW crap will get worse. This will all just create the perfect environment for radical identity politics to flourish. I wouldn't be surprised if Gen Z gives us our own Hitler or Lenin.

/r/politics, is that a subreddit or something? what did that have to do with the post?
>>
>>62227978
the only thing all those women had to do was keep their dam hands off muh GAYMES. they could've had their first female president, I don't care. but when you fuck with muh gaymes, don't bitch about the consequences.

MAGA motherfucker
>>
>>62232258
/r/politics is heavy liberal. people complain about the donald subreddit but reddit has blackballed them. Posts from there cannot show up on all. Meanwhile openly communist subreddits are always on the front page. They open advicate for violence against racists and other crazy shit. But yes reddit probably pushes conservatives to 4chan because they actively supress them. Yes i go on reddit a lot at work because its sfw and I am bored, i dont go on it on my phone or at home

newfags?
>>
>>62217015
i am proudly one of those newfags and the sole reason im here are sjws knew of this site since its creation and never even had the desire to lurk until last year
>>
>>62232505
Back in 2008 or 09 when that meme started I actually got my residence hall banned from 4chan for posting a 4chan gold image. It must have been a very short ban because it was fine the next day but it was a very frightening 24 hours for me because that was back when I was constantly on the chan.
>>
>>62232553
I got banned twice last week for posting on /v/. What an aweful board. Mods delete your posts and warn you and shit for no reason. Got global banned for 3 days for calling the mods out at being trash at their """"job""""
>>
>>62218297
I wish I watched rozen maiden sooner, good anime.
>>
>>62232596
Watch me get banned again for violating the jewish no complaining about 4chan global rule. Feels good getting banned for complaining about a service i fucking pay for with my 4chan pass.
>>
>>62232596
at least you know you got banned, can you imagine posting on reddit for years just to realize you got shadow banned years ago because you hurt someones fee-fee's?
>>
>>62230345
Unironically this, but instead of /pol/ use with a reddit one instead if it detects you've even visited reddit in the past 24 hours

>>
>>62232647
I just hate that feeling when you have to supress what you want to post for free of punishment. Got it right now but i have a lot of respect for /g/ mods. They don't go around swining ban hammers or purging posts thay get slightly off topic. Honestly i've never had issues with mods in my 9 years on the site, /v/ is just out of control.

what sad individual would actually do this shit? if nobody interacted with me on a website and my posts were just plummeting into a void why would I continue posting? I can't even wrap my head around what a person who behaves like that is like.

How about a test to prove you are an oldfag?
It will even include some anime-related questions

Consider suicide.

>>62233527
I use a mouse and keyboard all day at work, i usually don't want to come home and do that even more. Typing on a phone isn't hard, doing it right now.

I'll go through it step by step
>deletion of loli board
>spread of memes and knowledge of /b/ on the "normal" internet (anonymouse, leegin etc.)
>teens invade /b/, kill it
>/v/ gets way too popular and starts to look distinctively "teen", /b/ like
>gamergate invites more social media normies into 4chan
>/pol/ stops being a containment/dumping ground board and becomes a causeway for le reddit into 4chan
>phoneposters, macfags, phone threads, normie tech bullshit
>/pol/ leaking into every board, eroding what it was

4chan should be like ex where you need a special cookie to even see it. but that wouldn't play into hiro or moots plans to find some way to profit off this site
>>
>>62234935
It was still tolerable before /pol/ started leaking fucking everywhere.
