Matlab, PyMOL, excel, and powerpoint. Basic stuff. I'm not interested in gaming/entertainment. I have a desktop for that.

If you need heavy computing, then you will probably want to look at the W series. I just bought a W520 with a 4c/8t i7 and 16 GB of RAM for 260. It has a dedicated gpu inside too. I haven't gotten it yet so I can't say how powerful it is but I think it should be able to do well for Mattlab. But it is meant to be a desktop replacement, so it's kind of big and the battery life might not be the best but it is powerful
