If you want help:
>Assemble parts list
https://pcpartpicker.com/
>State the budget for your build (and country if not USA)
>List games/software you use often, as well as your monitor resolution + refresh rate
>Clarify your goal for build improvements: lower price or improved specs?
How to assemble a PC, select components & more (outdated)
https://wiki.installgentoo.com/index.php?title=Build_a_PC

CPUs:
No i5 unless discounted
>A10 9700 - poverty-tier builds (no dGPU)
>R3 1200 - Budget builds (<$500)
>R3 1300x - Good stop-gap between the 1500x and the 1200, only get a 1400 if you absolutely need multithreading
>R5 1500x - Good but up to 1600 if you can
>R5 1600 - Best value for higher fps gaming / mixed usage; 1600x if you want higher stock clocks
>R7/Used Xeon/Threadripper - Compute/Multitask/VM/mixed use; Not for just gaming

GPUs:
Coin miners have driven price up and stock down, waiting to buy a GPU might be wiser
>Integrated CPU Graphics - Desktop stuff and very light games
>GTX 1050(Ti) - Lower end budget cards, drop settings on newer games, RX560 beaten by both
>RX570 - 1080p@60~hz maxed, running most maxed older games at 100~Hz
>RX580 and GTX1060 6GB - 1080p@80hz maxed, 1440p@60hz at lower settings; RX580 better in newer games
>GTX 1070 or Vega 56 - 1080p@130hz /1440p@60hz at high
>GTX 1080 - 1080p@144hz / 1440p@60hz maxed, 4k@60hz in a few games; Probably the highest end card you need for 1080p/1440p
>GTX 1080Ti - 1440p@144hz and 4k@60hz maxed/high in many games
>Good fucking luck even getting a VEGA right now

RAM:
>Check your Mobo QVL before buying any RAM
>Ryzen CPUs benefits a lot from high speed RAM

General:
ALWAYS LOOK AT PRODUCT REVIEWS!
Always consider an SSD. Try buying a large SSD for what you'd pay for your SSD+HDD combined, and add a HDD later
NVMe SSDs aren't for a faster OS boot, they're for productivity/scratch disk/VMs. NVMe and M.2 are not the same thing, M.2 is a form factor
Fuck miners

Hey so I want to make a maxed-out AM4 mini-itx build with pic related.

I've decided on the A12-9800 and ASRock Gaming-ITX/ac (I'll upgrade to a Ryzen APU when they're out ofc), but how do I find the right power supply and CPU cooler for such a small case?

I have a buddy who's going to sell me a GTX 970 on the cheap. I'd like to build something with a bit of future proofing, meaning that I'd like the core components to last me long enough so I don't have to gut it once I upgrade my video card in the future. I figure this is my best chance, as I'll be saving a shitload on the GPU. I'm willing to spend up to $700, not including the GPU. Will I be able to put something together that'll be handle the GPUs of a year or two from now?

Is this a good build if I include all the optional components?

Is it good idea to buy used PSU?

My ebay seller sent me spare LGA775 motherboard and I happened to have old e6600 lying around with old ram sticks and hdd. I think it might be fun to buy small case and utilize it as a small
and useless
home server but don't want to commit new PSU for it.

What do the crazy expensive motherboards offer over the more reasonably priced($100-$150) ones? I'm going Ryzen 1600X for this build, and it'll only be my second build, my first having a nice but reasonable Gigabyte $135 board 6 years ago. Is it only better quality/rice/overclocking capabilities, or is there anything something better for normal builds?

I just bought everything I need (Minus peripherals) for my first build:

>CPU: AMD - FX-9370 4.4GHz 8-Core OEM/Tray Processor
>Cooler:Corsair - H60 54.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
>Motherboard: ASUS AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard - M5A99FX PRO R2.0
>Memory: G.Skill - Value Series 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1333 Memory
>Storage: Western Digital - Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
>Video Card: NVIDIA - GeForce GTX 1060 6GB 6GB Founders Edition Video Card
>Case: Cooler Master - Elite 431 Plus (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case
>Power: Antec - EarthWatts Green 650W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply

Came out to just over $800 with shipping accounted for, which was what I was looking for price-wise.

Usually just things that are useful for overclocking. X370 has support for SLI/CF and more ports but is otherwise the same. Higher end boards use better parts but for stock speeds it makes no difference. They also have nice things like dual BIOS, easily accessible voltage check points, 7 segment displays for debugging, etc.

Came down to price relative to how intense I was going to be with my system. I'm only going to use it for light gaming.

Adding onto what this anon said, you'll also have better upgradibility since Ryzen boards are allegedly being supported until 2020. Also, you wont be stuck with gen 2 PCI-E speeds unlike AM3.

Bonus: You wont have a housefire, unlike that FX chip.

You would also need to cancel the motherboard. AMD's new Ryzen chips are incompatible with the AM3+ socket. The new Ryzen chips use the AM4 socket in either A320 (entry level, no overclocking), B350 (mainstream. overclocking, crossfire), or X370 (enthusiast. overclocking, crossfire, sli) chipsets. Most will recommend a B350 board.
You could also cancel the water cooler since most Ryzen CPUs (exceptions being the 1600X, 1700X and 1800X) come with a decent cooler that will support a moderate overclock.
Also, Ryzen LOVES fast memory due to the way the architecture works, so 2666+ mhz DDR4 memory is highly recommended. And it has to be DDR4. DDR3 will not work.

Sorry champ,

budget around 1500 aud, but has some wiggle room

i'm mainly looking for if any of these parts are not reputable or have issues that I couldn't find

the motherboard is the one thing I am least sure about.

also is the 1060 worth it, or should I just upgrade to 1070?

I also see that the OP says no i5 unless discounted, if I was to get an i7, do I get the 7700k or 6700k?
>>
>>62211291
1060 6GB is a fine card
>>
>>62211077
NO ONE recommends Intel anymore. AMD came out of fucking nowhere and made all of Intel's current lineup virtually irrelevant.
Read the OP and start doing research on AMD's new Ryzen 3 (core i3 competitor), Ryzen 5 (Core i5 competitor), Ryzen 7 (Core i7 competitor), and Threadripper (Skylake X competitors) CPUs.
>>
>>62211291
>I also see that the OP says no i5 unless discounted
The OP also says to get an AMD Ryzen 5 instead. And unless you're building for a strict 144 FPS at all fucking times, a Ryzen 7 is better than a Core i7. And even then, there are plenty of games the Ryzen 7 can do 144 FPS with.

Hello /pcbg/
I'm looking for budget (something like 200USD) GPU for my i6600 pc.
Because of mining craze decent AMD stuff is way above my budget (cheapest Radeon 570 is around 370 USD) so I stuck with only two options - 1050ti (170-180 USD) and 1060/3gig (around 250 USD).
Which one should I go for. I konw 1063 considerably faster, but 3 gigs in 2017 looks like really bad idea.
Oh, and I need a GPU that will do the job for the next two years so which one should I buy?

Do you need to go through PCCG? If you don't live near them, check directly through their website for shipping options and potential deals/discounts.
If you don't have to go with them, it might be worth checking some other stores, such as Mwave, Umart, or depending which part of the country, PLE/Austin (WA) or Scorptec (NSW)
>>
>>62211919

I've been looking at PLE, but their prices seem to be overall higher than PCCG.

I am planning to buy the case from PLE, as it's only $1 more, and it pretty much cuts shipping in half from PCCG.

I am in Perth. I've used PCCG before and had no problems.

Alright, so I don't know why you're getting the AIO watercooler, but you don't need it. ("because it's cool" is a good enough reason mind you.)
Get a 1600 instead of a 1600X. It comes with a good stock cooler, and once overclocked, those two CPUs have the exact same performance.
Probably don't get the VDH version of this motherboard. If my quick research is correct, this denotes a version with worse VRMs and power supply to the CPU, which is fine for stock frequencies but not as good for overclocking.
Get faster RAM. Ryzen responds really well to higher speeds, so DDR4-3200 is pretty much ideal for it. Aim for at least 2800 though.
You can also just get a single stick of 8GB if that's less expensive, the benefits of dual channel outside of very specific benchmarks are almost nil.
I hope you have a spare HDD to go with that SSD.
A 1060 6GB is a decent card for 1080p60.
That PSU is good.

going to be an upgrade to my current set up. I currently have a r5 1600, for gaming it's quite fine, but for video editing/virtualization it leaves a bit more to be desired. I've had it with window's shit so I'll be moving to linux and passing through the 1080 TI for anything I need windows for, ie. gaymes. Main purpose for the rig will be video editing and virtualization in that case.
Other notes
>all m.2 ssd
I really just dont want to deal with the hassle of cables anymore, its 2017 and the cost of going with m.2 over sata is marginal. I'm currently using a sata based drive that will be switched out for the m.2, one 525 gb for both the host and the virtual system, the 1.1 tb for shared storage, the nvme for a scratch disk

>>62213423
If you mean futureproof as in "I won't ever be upgrading and will throw it all away in 5 years", the Intel should be fine. If you mean futureproof as in "easy upgrade path", AMD all the way.
The 7700k has better performance in games, but the 1600 is better value (I wouldn't go for a 1700 in your case, no increase in gaming performance), and the platform supports easy overclocking and upgrades. Comparatively, the Intel processors coming out this month won't be compatible with a motherboard you'd buy today for the 7700k.

All in all, if you want the best gaming performance right now, it's 7700k. If you want a good all-rounder and better value, 1600.

Their business model is shady, but ultimately they just serve as a marketplace for buyers and sellers of keys to do business.

The sellers are small companies from Ukraine, Russia, China etc who use various methods to get a hold on left over keys from stuff like promotions or excess production (example, factory bought 100000 windows keys, only built 80000 pcs, sold the rest on grey market to key sellers).

The reputation of these sites went down because their trade of game keys is more often shadier. Keys have been stolen from retailers, charity sales abused. G2A and Kinguin arent responsible for all of that, but they profit from it indirectly since its being sold on their sites.

I only use these sites for windows keys, rest is not worth it.

When I buy them for offices Ive been using https://softwarelicense4u.com/ lately. Not even trying to you might get keys somewhere else cheaper.

Windows 7 is like 20 8.1 maybe 30 and 10 maybe 40 or something. Remember you can roll 8.1 and 7 into 10 with the accessibility upgrade. Also dont get the home version of 7 or 8.1 it locks out certain networking stuff you might like later. Not sure if 10 home did away with that.

As far as Ive read once you get legit 10 going you can reinstall 10 clean and dont even need the key because either its put a keyfile on your uefi or they can spot you from hardware ids.

A little scare about microsoft putting shit in my ueifi for tracking. I cleared all my keys and went vm for windows now.

Ive got a freenas server in my closet with 8 drives. They have always been at the upper limits of temps I am comfortable with. Most gpu sellers will have custom versions of the card where these days the only custom thing is the cooler. Look through new egg and youll see better cooling setups on the card. As in multiple fans and heat pipes.

>>62215099
They're no better than a good air cooler but have more modes of failure and some of those failure modes allow for destruction of other equipment rather.

Failure modes for air cooler:
- Fans fail
- you pour indium everywhere like a madman

Failure modes for an AIO
- Fans fail
- Pump Fails
- Pump Leaks*
- Hoses Fail*
- Fittings Fail*
- Fittings come loose*
- Radiator forms a leak
- You overtighten screws

If you couldn't give a shit about the above and just want muh aesthetics, get an AIO.

>>62215349
I wouldn't bother sinking money into another Skylake/Kaby Lake processor. The best you could get is what, an i7? Which is literally the same shit you have now but with hyperthreading? Gay shit. And, if you were to go for an i7, that'd be the end of the line. No other options. Doesn't sound worth it to me.

Go for AM4 my dude. There'll be at least 3-4 more generations of AMD chips on the AM4 socket, probably even more, so you'll have a solid upgrade path. No dead 1-2 gen Intel sockets lmao. If you want to save some cash, you could go for the R3 1300X and a B350 motherboard. Just upgrade to some other Ryzen or AM4 compatible chip down the line when you need more power/more threads.

You'll be needing higher frequency RAM though. Either buy a new kit or take your hand at attempting to overclock what you have now. Current gen Ryzen chips love higher RAM clocks, so the higher the better. 2666MHz is bare minimum you'd want, with 3200MHz being the ideal clock speed.
>>
>>62215509
As in failing?

If you get gpu down clocking and voltage drop on 12v rail it's fucked.

>>
>>62215499
Yeah sure. The real problem isn't just the number of fans, but how they work. A 1060 will function just fine with just the one fan, with a nice cooler, and not in blower.
>>
>>62211587
B-but this is an ASUS board, never have I seen ASUS make a meme board of this kind, unlike the shittier ASRock and Biostar boards, I have high hopes for this board.

>>62211623
You can crack hashes, train deep learning algorithms, fold proteins, etc

>>62211704
Well, sometimes the board needs more power when you have that many connections, or you want your PSUs to all turn on at once. The alternative and norm for mobos with a higher amount of PCIE connector is having 4pin connectors so it can draw power from the psu, this is actually much better

I'd get one more fan for the S340. It comes with a couple mounted as exhaust; put one of those as intake in the front, and another one, and you've got a nice positive pressure going (which is good since the front intake is filtered).
Honestly I'd just get the 1700. The cooler it comes with can stand a moderate overclock, and once overclocked the 1700 and 1700X have the same performance. Plus you can always add a better cooler to get those last few MHz out of it just like you can the X.

Other than that everything looks good. I'm assuming you have a HDD you're reusing from a previous build? Or are you going with just an SSD?
If you're into the looks of the build, you could spend a little more for the M.2 version of the SSD, which would remove a couple cables.

Depends on what you do with your computer. If you like to download movies or shows and keep them, have thousands of photos or things like that, 500GB can be a little tight. If you think you'll be fine with 500GB no need to get more.
You can always buy one later and pop it in in 5 minutes.
