Are newer thinkpads worth it?
>>62193318
What's wrong with them?
>>62193261
Even chinkpadders tell me no
It's apparantly all about those dinosaur old models
If you can get a used one with good internals fir cheap then I don't see why not.
Not sure what the difference is between a newer thinkpad, dell xps, gateway, etc. though.
>>62193325
Build quality is shittier and they tend to have bloatware
Also Lenovo was acquired by some chinese botnet, so there's that
>>62193371
Dell XPS win on aesthetics
>>62193325
Chiclet keys are shit
t. chiclet key user

>bloatware
doesn't bother me since I'd put Arch on it. Build quality does though, any idea which laptops in the 600+ price range have good build quality?
>>62193387
Call me when they have an all black version.
>>62193485
Call me when any other laptop has bezels like these
I replaced my t410s with a p50 and I like it a lot. They're not gaming laptops if that's what you're looking for but I like the build quality and support from lenovo.
>>62193528
>p50
Wee bit expensive for me senpai.
>>62193549
I'm not one of those people who buy used thinkpads, I buy them new (though I did get a big corporate discount on top of the already discounted price).
>>62193516
muh bezels
>>62193600
I just need something to take to work with me basically, as long as it can handle latest DE's and play movies it's good to go, don't plan to game on it at all.

Chromebook Pixel.
>>62193516
ZEN WHEN
>>62193618
You don't have to buy a thinkpad then you can buy something else. You're going to have to decide what you want in terms of weight and battery life though so I can't help you.
>>62193643
>Chromebook Pixel
Sorry I meant laptops that don't come with botnet included.
New thinkpads are comfy, ignore the memers of /g/
depends current t and x lines are worth it
minor issues sometimes
>>62193261
is it a good computer? ya
worth the money? no
make your choice op, if i were you i'd go for a fully upgraded t440
>>62193516
MUH BEZELS
if i wanted a macbook i'd have gotten a macbook
>>62193618
get a used x200 if you're in america or get an x220 and put an ssd in it
Posting this on my T420s. All about personal preference. I dig older ThinkPad models like the T420s, X200, and so on. I would like a newer one but I don't think they'll ever live up to the older models. Wait a little longer if you plan on getting one and see about the ThinkPad Classic. Probably gonna be a massive disappointment, but doesn't hurt to wait.
had a t400 for years, got a used x240 for pretty cheap because i needed something portable with a good battery life for college
trackpad is utter garbage but the keyboard feels great, battery life is good, and the build quality is, while a definite step down, still better than the majority of consumer grade laptops
can recommend
>>62193261
>E series
NO. NEVER.
>>62194417
+1 x220, sounds like its the one you want.
>>62193261
Don't buy it "as a thinkpad". Buy it as a plane-jane regular laptop and it holds up very well against its' main competition (other mainstream laptops).
With soldered ram and soldered CPU? Why even bother? In a couple of years the solder will become brittle rendering the device nonfunctional. Unless you're getting a P series, don't bother. Despite the horrible trackpad, the xx40 series is the last device resembling anything of the 'Thinkpad' name.
Yeah they're good provided you're not getting the budget lines
