Is machine learning a meme?
calling machine learning "AI" is meme

calling <calling machine learning "AI"> a meme is a meme that's been around for a while.
every time someone makes a discovery in AI everyone redefines AI to exclude it
this has been going on since the '60s

If you actually KNOW how it works, and not just think you know how it works, if you implement the algorithms(yes, neural networks too) by yourself, you'll see that it's not that trivial.
Reinforcement Learning is the more interesting part, imo.

Calling things 'meme' are a meme.

but is pic related AI yet?

>this has been going on since the '60s
sauce for the first time somebody has done this

before it was invented, computer algebra was called AI
after it was invented (in the 1960s), it was called computer algebra

yeah basically
You know all those billions google has spent trying to identify traffic signs in their self-driving cars?
You can throw ALL of their machine learning models off if you just obscure the stop signs a little bit, some black paint will do the trick.
When you get their models to reproduce what it thinks to be a stop sign, you don't see a stop sign, you see a literal random set of pixel noise, this is what it identifies as a stop sign.
You better hope that stop sign isn't slightly tilted in any direction other than completely head-on because it won't be able to see that either.
