I doesn't remain just an init program that hands the initialized system to the kernel, it just goes higher and higher in the hierarchy and that is bad for linux, because linux is built in a different philosophy.

Systemd does mess with disks and network for example while it is not its main job.
We have reached a point where a DE, Gnome, depends on systemd.
I am not against systemd, and i am not pro-init or any other similar system, but the new and modern software should fix problems of the past ones and offer more flexibility. Unlike wayland vs xorg(just an example), systemd is a superset of init and it starts to mess with kernel's responsibilities...what will hapoen in the next 10 years? Run systemd and then load emacs? You know that systemd is expanding dangerously.

Not all software has to be loosely coupled, heck Linux itself is monolithic. SystemD taking on more responsibility is a good thing because it prevents duplicated efforts. At the same time most code is open source, you're free to innovate at your own pace and patch Gnome to work with $INIT. If you come up with something better then great. You're also free to improve SystemD if you think something sucks.

That's why linux, the kernel, is so successful(welp outside spoiled brats aka gamers), and that's because it is agile, it does the job it is supposed to do, it doesn't override libc/glibc, it doesn't care about init and generally it doesn't care what's above and bellow it.
That's how linux, the ecosystem, and bsd work. The fix every problem with the respective tool.
The reason why administrators marched against systemd is because they didn't want to be told what to use or do, they need just a bare minimum init and that's that.
Sure it's nice to have network support after the bootloader but if you really can't do without it until the kernel loads, then you are using the wrong os.
Systemd heads to the wrong direction and its the first major package that does it in the 26(iirc) years of linux.
So far it doesn't affect me directly, so i am just talking as objectively i can, just needed to change a few scripts a year ago... but I believe those professionals when they whine about it, aside from their inconvenience to learn new things, they have many valud reasons why systemd is creating more problems than it solves.
