You'll find stories of almost all widely used phones exploding. Especially after it's been out for a long time. That's just the inherent issue with the batteries in use.
But the Note 7 had a design flaw that made it a lot more prone to overheat and explode. In less than a month there were already loads of cases of Note 7 batteries exploding. And even the "fixed" version they offered was no better.
