It has a GUI, as extensive as you would have on a remote plus the timeline. You literally don't need anything else.
Why would you need an intrusive GUI for watching videos? I only want to see the video, not have useless buttons floating around. MPV does that perfectly out of the box, and it's extremely light and doesn't have pic related like VLC, which I always get on VLC if I pause the video for a while and then resume it.
