Just came to post this. And the advantage of running Piwik(assuming you install it on your blog server) is that it may not be blocked as easily by the client side since it only registers as your site's own javascript.

Ublock Origin blocks piwik.* subdomain and piwik.js file.
To avoid this, use another subdomain and do a symlink to the js
