I think they wanted to have an OS that ran on everything (like Windows does, except KDE started doing this years ago and never quite got it right).

That's because KDE software has to be compiled with debugging symbols in order for that crash data to be useful. However, if you compile things with debugging symbols then you get bigger files and I think things might run slower. So it's common practice to give end users optimized binaries that are compiled without debugging data.
It's pretty stupid that that shit isn't explained anywhere and that it's a pain in the ass to find/compile all the KDE shit required to debug a problem.

Classic KDE:
>A huge fucking mess of interdependent programs and libraries together with a desktop environment.
Modern KDE:
>Most of those libraries/dependencies have been untangled. Now KDE is the company name and Plasma is the DE name (kind of like the relationship between Microsoft and Windows). Under the KDE umbrella there is a ton of software but fortunately you can now install individual pieces of it without having to install an ocean of dependencies.

Fuck yea, add in Compton, disable desktop icons, clean up those stupid panels, and properly configure fontconfig and you are computing in style.
Besides, stuff like
xrandr --output HDMI-0 --scale 1.41x1.41
is broken in KDE and they don't give a fuck about fixing it.
