I have to admit, I am pretty disappointed with VEGA, I was expecting alot more out of AMD. Looks like im going team green this time. 1080TI here I come.

What happened?

funny you say that

i just bought the entire stock of 800 vega 64s from a local dealership for my mining operation

blockchain compute has never been more profitable mate

800K in euros is something i will earn back in less than 3 months

Don't worry, even AMD gave up on RTG/Radeon. AMD+Nvidia is the patrician choice.

your only choice really

Wont matter when they switch to Proof of Stake, then all those GPU's are wasted money.
>>
>>62171430
Everyone will just switch to monero, eth classic, or zcash.

Intel will buy RTG and AMD fuses with Nvidia after all
>>
Just reapplied my thermal paste to my R9 290 i bought in 2014 for $182 from a miner. Overclocked it's pretty close to a vega 56 and it's worth $300 now. Real winners bought the r9 290.
>>
you're damn near retarded because every non-shill on here saw that Vega was DOA months ago

They got massively screwed over with HBM2. Vega scales very well with memory clock, but they were unable to get the type of memory they were essentially promised and wanted, so they had to get by with buying memory from a different supplier, but their memory was lower clocked. Thus they had to overclock the memory, which massively increases costs.

There might be other problems with Vega, but it's pretty clear that the memory is the reason for its poor performance vs cost.

Vega rapes the 1080ti in mining.

Learn how to steal electricity and build a mining rig in a condemned buildings. Literally free monies.

A 3rd entrant is coming for the compute market
>>62176215
Fitting that miners will be onboard the soon sinking ship

The future of computing, hardware, and architectures is not set in stone.
Those who pursue it for the sake of genuinely pushing the envelope at the fastest pace they can will cement their place. Third party entrants will soon come after compute from all angles. So, any corporation f'in around holding people hostage to old paradigms or trying to line their pockets holding decades old features, is going to be in for a disruptive wakeup call.

It's time for a shakeup in the industry for all entrenched players and its coming with a fury

Money got diverted from radeon to their cpu side of the business. made polaris for low to mid range, left high end to a later date. They developed one architecture for their entire graphics lineup. Vega needed to be able to work in an APU, work in workstations, work for gamers, and work in datacenters(MI25). From a company standpoint, vega was a success, from a gamers standpoint, vega is a bit disappointing. Though gamers need to realize they are no longer the focus for Intel, nvidia, AMD. Products get designed and released to datacenters first now. Most of AMD's vega lineup is probably going to datacenter customers like baidu, or reserved for apple. This is not to mention them getting screwed over by HBM manufacturers.

Software still lags somewhere behind the hardware.
For a (somewhat) software-defined GPU that's silly.
>>
>>62176627
>This is not to mention them getting screwed over by HBM manufacturers.

They could have been smart and just used gddr like Nvidia because HBM wasn't cost effective.
>>
>>62176855
You don't use GDDR for compute or Pro boards.
That and being friends with Samsung is bretty fucking good.

desu I really don't like making predictions for cryptocurrencys, bitcoin has seen some adoption from vendors, but no one really uses it that way. Overall cryptocurrency's arent really currency's I see them more as a commodity like gold where people just speculate on their value or want to diversify their holdings.

I was waiting for VEGA with my R9 280x, but when I saw Vega Frontier Edition, I knew what was coming, Went and bought a EVGA 1080Ti FTW3. No regrets.
