my school library in like 1991 had one of those optical drives when you insert the cd-rom in the case and the drive opens it and reads it for you. some kid didn't know those and managed to pry the disc out of the case and the librarian was NOT pleased.
The M-G12 was a stereo cassette player and a part of the “Sportster” range of portable audio manufactured by the Sanyo Corporation, in the early 80s, in Japan. This basic stereo cassette player came with a pair of headphones, and a silver coloured cover. It has some good points going for it such as a decent sound with plenty of bass and treble, providing you use a good pair of headphones. It has play, fast-forward, and rewind tape controls. It also has balance and volume level controls to the side. These are also switches for mute and tone settings.

those early cd-rom drives don't actually "open" the case, they work more like a 3.5" floppy (spindle exposed, slot that moves to expose the disc to the laser)
also, they were designed to be opened, he would have only gotten in trouble if he either damaged the case somehow, or tried to insert the bare disc into the drive
i'm not surprised someone would have thought to do that though, after all, music cd's in jewel cases had been out for some time, and if it was 1991, that might have been his first time touching a cd that wasn't in a regular jewel case, which you're supposed to remove the cd from in order to use it
i still think optical disc cases that can be used directly without removing the disc is a good idea

I don't know why but I'll post this here: I remember back around 1999 I had Windows 95C booting from a parallel port Zip drive, via a boot floppy with an AUTOEXEC.BAT that loaded GUEST.EXE and it continued on from there... took like 12 minutes to get to the desktop.
Found this...have no idea what it does. Doesnt seem to work either...

it's a portable VHS VTR (video tape recorder)
VHS is given away by the "E180/E240" tape select switch, as they're length designations for VHS tapes
not really sure who'd use it, though, doesn't seem like something a normal consumer would have a use for, but at the same time, VHS has never really been a professional choice

oh, there is a VHS logo on it, missed it. just above the "2.3" on the top
ps, the panel on the top is where you put the vhs tape, it's a top-loader (pops up, kind of like how audio casettes are loaded into most players)
