Imo Apple won by forcing an ecosystem. I didn't follow it back in the day, but the way there are iPad optimized versions of apps makes this tablet what it is. Somehow Apple pushed developers to get their shit together and not just have the phone app outputting at a higher resolution, but make a separate version. iPad feels like it's own device with apps optimized, while Android tablets feel like big smartphones.

I had no idea how unique the iPad app ecoystem was. In some ways it is the only true tablet as it has it's own versions of everything and with iOS 11 it will also have a file system. So it is separate from it's phone counterpart. While Android tablets are just bigger smartphones.
