No, you need to uninstall the old card completely. Use a program called DDU, it works best.

It will prompt you when you can shut down and remove the old card and swap for the new one.

Also, make sure that you download the driver files for your new card before you do anything. Once you have the card card set, power up and install drivers and wala!

I think I am going to get one to upgrade the GTX 960 2gb in my computer. I think I can get one on ebay for less than $250 going by past sales, and I can sell my old card for $100.

My CPUs are 2x Xeon X5650, but I plan on also upgrading those to 2x X5675. The X5675 is a six core chip running at 3ghz with 12mb of cache.

I think this set up should get me 60 fps @ 1080p with very high settings most games for the next few years.

a unique situation has come up that has me traveling, but i still need to work on my cross-platform app using VS.

normally, everything is at home and the iMac is attached to the same network as my win10 machines and it's all gravy.

however this time, it would be very burdensome to take the iMac along. i really don't want to buy a new macbook just for this.

can i use a hackintosh laptop (T-420?) or would OSX 'know' and disallow the remote access needed by VS?

Personally I go by how it behaves in the stress test, and I'd say that's too hot and back off, even if "normal use" doesn't hit those temps. That's the point of a stress test, if your machine is fine under the worst possible load it can face, you can have confidence it'll be okay under everyday loads.

Stick something in the vent to stop the fan from spinning. Then blast it with canned air. If there's a big hairball in there (pets cause this) that won't help, but if it's just dust it should fix it.

The reason you have to stick something in the vent to hold the fan still is that if you spin it faster than its designed for by blowing canned air on it (which is easy to do) you can break it. Then you'll have to find a replacement fan assembly.

If you do take it apart repaste it.

I can think about it abstractly as well, this is how I came up with the formula, but I was looking for a formal proof.

luckily, the guys in /sci helped out.

by the binomial theorem
(m+r)^x
= sum_{i=0}^x (x choose i) m^i r^{x-i}

each summand with 1<= i <= x is divisible by m so is equal to 0 mod m

so
(m+r)^x
= sum_{i=0}^x (x choose i) m^i r^{x-i}
= r^x (mod m)

Possibly, but I would guess the bios battery first. If the hard drive is dead, there will be a message saying that there isn't a hard drive.

Have you tried booting Linux using a USB/CD drive? If the bios battery is toast, or not seated properly, you won't be able to. If the hard drive is toast, you will still be able to load up Linux.
>>
>>62155667

I'll keep it high level. Remember C executes top to bottom.

>#include <stdio.b>
Preprocessor directive that adds the standard IO library
>int main() {
All C programs start executing at main. Main MUST be present in the program. It's declared as int because C programs return integers representing their exit status .
>printf ("hello, world!");
Formatted print function. Prints the string literal "hello world" to standard output.
>return 0;
If the program has gotten to this point, return a 0 before exiting. 0 means no issue. Anything else is usually an error.

That would be my recommendation. You'll boot up and be able to see whether the laptop detects a hard drive. If it does, then the hard drive isn't dead (although it may be damaged if you're hearing a lot of beeping).

My personal advice to anyone who has trouble with Windows is to try and push Linux Mint UNLESS they have programs that they need that aren't available on Linux (like Photoshop - GIMP is fine for the layman, but not a suitable replacement for professionals).

I usually get them to do it by saying I charge 10 bucks per hour to try and diagnose and fix the problem (with no guarantees), but that I'll install and optimize Linux Mint for 20 bucks, and that if anything goes wrong with it that isn't hardware, that I'll fix it for 20 bucks at most, no matter how much time it takes (if its that bad, I'll just USB boot, save the files they need, and reinstall).

When I am using Windows and I want to install a program to a hard drive different from the one I have the operating system installed on it is a simple matter of changing the install directory path. For example choosing F:\Program Files\ instead of C:\Program Files\.

In a Linux-based system how do you accomplish the same thing when you are installing things from the terminal? For example if I want to install firefox I would just type

sudo apt-get install firefox

and choose yes when prompted to go ahead with the installation. But this puts it on the same drive as the OS.

>>62160739
Short answer: you don't.
Long answer: Ubuntu/debian programs are compiled with the FHS file structure in mind so they don't have to come with libraries of their own and can use ones already installed. So, you'd need to compile it yourself using your own mind set.
>>
>>62160698
You can buy it with your card and then remove the card from your account right after checkout so it's not got the details sitting on your account, if you want...
>>
>>62160973
So my best option is to compile as a stand-alone binary? I suppose there is a relatively simple way to also link that to the programs list in the terminal so I can just type its name and have it function in a similar manner.

Still, this seems like a real weakness on the part of the Linux system. In Windows if you wanted to put programs on a flash drive and take them from computer to computer it's very simple.
>>

Will changing my credit card on an Amazon preorder change my position in line to have it shipped out? Did so due to the card I had originally registered not having enough funds on it and the expected ship date hasn't changed but not sure if I'll wind up bamboozled down the line.

If my system is comfortable running things at 1920x1080 at 70-120 FPS, will it be fine at 2560x1080 for 60PFS?
>>
>>62161070
Windows programs come packed with the libraries they use. Linux programs are separated from them during distribution.
It's not a weakness in linux as much as an faulty expectation on your part. You can NOT use aptitude to install a program and make it with the libraries in the same folder and move it around freely.
>>
>>62161070
Or you could install to a chroot.
>>
>>62161151
It depends on the bottleneck point. If it is the CPU probably nothing will change. If it is the GPU and you are only getting 70 fps you probably won't get 60 fps with same settings since it is 25% more pixels.
>>
>>62161285
Eh, i'm just quoting minimums and my vsync maximum. 70FPS is only when it gets really, really bad. 1% of the time really.

Ryzen 3 1300X that's yet to be overclocked, and an RX470. I'm cutting half of the framerate that i'm asking of it for 25% more resolution so I guess it _should_ be okay?

Second hand mining card for GBP 30

>"Each card has had the bios straps modded to increase mining power. Will do 27MH/s ish without overclocking or 29-30MH/s with overclock.

>All cards have been configured and tested.

>All cards are approx 2 months old.

>I have 2 complete original boxes, 2 outer only original boxes and 1 without a box. They will be boxed in first come first serve order. Once the original boxes have gone I'll ship in an unbranded box fully protected.

>Other then that all in perfect working order!

>I have other GPU's for sale, all RX480 8GB's so please see my other items.

>Collection would be great to save postage costs, but if not I will post tracked and signed delivery for both of our safety! "

Is it worth it?
I've asked if they got a warranty. It on ebay so if I get screwed I can get a full money back guarantee. The seller also has a very positive rating.

Anyone know how to check if the card is up to shit when I do get it. Like my own stress-test diagonostics so I can catch if the cards defective before the month ends?

while 24.000Hz is 24p exactly, most stuff is 24/1.001Hz (~23.97602397602397602398Hz)
the difference is minute, and won't matter at all assuming your player can re-time the video/audio (such as using display-resample with mpv)
>>
>>62154599
It doesn't sound like the problem is the memory itself. If you're getting a bluescreen then it's likely drivers. Update them. Maybe reseat the ram for good measure though.

Monitor doesn't work if I connect it via hdmi, dvi, vga to the gpu. Monitor led light just kept on blinking after boot. It does work if I connect it via vga direct to the motherboard.

I don't think there should be a difference, personally I'd go with (mini) DP to DP just because I hate HDMI.

Is there any downside to re-encoding all my porn videos to mkv h.264? I've tested a few videos and the quality is practically the same. I'll be keeping them 1080p, but the file size is like 60% of the original, so that means I can keep more porn saved. Any downsides though?

Do I have to be good at drawing to be good at animating stuff?
>>
>>62164831
You can teach yourself to draw. It's not a pure talent. (Atleast until a point)
>>
>>62164672
It's a lossy to lossy conversion, so yes, the quality will decrease. I try to keep the original files whenever possible, but if you're fine with sacrificing (an apparently unnoticeable) quality, then there's no problem.
>>
>>62164875
Any tips?
>>
>>62164876

I keep movies in original format / high bitrate, but with porn I feel like you can afford to lose some quality and still does the job just fine.
>>
>>62164888
I don't know shit about drawing... Just that you can learn
