Need a recommendation
I just got done paying off my galaxy s6 active and it aged like actual dogshit (despite the name, if you are actually active the built in case will eventually peel off and you will break the screen a few times).
I'm on AT&T in the US and just want something that is reasonably priced has a good camera and decent processing power that AT&T offers.
I've heard that LGs have pretty good cameras, are HTCs any good?
>>
>>62148417
It's not bad, i'm upgrading from that platform currently myself, so it's not the best, but you should already know that given it's age and price.

It's still going to give decent performance though, 3GB of RAM and Exynos 7420 (better than SD810)
>>
>>62148445
if you managed to destroy a Galaxy S6 active you'll ruin any LG within 3 weeks.
>>
>>62148471
If I can get an otterbox for a phone it should be good to go. I just didn't get one for my active because I assumed it would actually hold up.
Trust me, I've had a lot of delicate phones come out unscathed from crazy shit in otterboxes.

I know there's not alot of love here for the Essential, but mines coming on Thursday, and I'm really looking forward to the possibility of a new direction for Android phones.

I hate the goddamn bloatware and extra shit every company has to put on their phones to make it unique.

My thought is, if I can bring some money to a small company with big plans for Android, I'll throw my $600 in.

Plus my S5 went from the best phone I've ever owned to the most despised when the Lollipop Virus was forced into it.

Right now I just want something that works the way the S5 did back on Kitkat.

Not having a headphone jack for the purpose of cramming more stuff in your phone is the most retarded concept in smartphones. And just saying to use an adapter just complicates the problem that has been made for no reason. I really don't think anyone minds a slightly thicker phone for the purpose of a bigger batter and whatever else you need to stuff in your phone. Even to me, the lgv20 is a thin phone and it's a powerhouse so I really don't want to hear excuses from other companies

If you really don't mind apps reloading when multitasking (especially browser tabs), I recommend the Moto E 2015, if you can find one in good condition. Fast enough for basic stuff, great battery, nice size...
>>
>>62154043
The catch here is that the number of pixels has nothing to do with image quality. Don't be the kind of idiot the manufacturers want you to be, do some research to learn what's actually important in a camera instead of going for the one with the most megapixels.
>>
>>62154869
Their testing is horrible, not to mention they're using a cheap as fuck A series from samsung, not their flagship S series or Note.

Here's what has to be said about the S8+ screen
>The Always-On display is pretty efficient. The smartphone only consumes 0.13 Watts during standby and 0.23 Watts (on average) with the Always-On display.

https://www.notebookcheck.net/Samsung-Galaxy-S8-Plus-SM-G955F-Smartphone-Review.213438.0.html

Of course the display is going to use more power being on than off, but it's not going to actually impact your battery life to any significant degree.

remember, when the phone is in your pocket, the proximity sensor turns the AOD off anyway. So it's only when you have your phone sitting out that the display is actually always on.
>>
>>62148328
>V30
>No removable battery
>Battery is unusably shitty in 2 years
Why even bother buying it?
>>
>>62155101
You realize just because YOU can't replace the battery doesn't mean the battery can NEVER be replaced by ANYONE...right?

Just take it in to your local cell phone repair store and pay someone $50-60 to replace it after 18-24 months.

Or send it back to LG directly if you've got a backup phone you can use for a week or two.
>>
>>62155130
I've done this before with multiple phone manufacturers and they usually end up passing a refurbished battery that's almost as bad off as "new" and then send it back to you. All at a retardedly high price
>>
>>62155003
>Their testing is horrible

>They're using a cheap as fuck A series

http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s8_plus-review-1602p3.php
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s7-review-1408p3.php

Even the bit you quoted from notebookcheck says AOD almost doubles the standby drain
>>
>>62155198
>Of course, your mileage will vary depending on how long you keep the phone out of your pocket.

Hmm what'd you know. Like I said, if you leave your phone sitting out 24/7, yeah it's gonna be a drain on your battery. If it's in your pocket, or even just facedown on a table or something, the AOD isn't on and isn't draining shit.

At this point I just assume you're a troll desu, or someone who is autisticly set against samsung simply because they're popular.
>>
>>62155130
>people are justifying paying 60 dollars to have the battery in their phone replaced
what a time to be alive
>>
>>62155256
The cost of the battery itself is included in that which is already $20-30.

Then you have to pay some schlub to actually put the battery in the phone, and unless you've got the tools, and the patience to do it yourself, you're far better off just paying the kid his $30 on top of the $20-30 for the cost of the battery.
>>
>>62155278
Or they could just make the battery easily removable by the user

But no, who cares about the consumers, fuck the consumers.
>>
>>62155294
Consumers are morons, half of them buy cheap chink knock of batteries that have the potential to destroy the phone, then they pop the original battery back in and claim "something" just happened to it, and the manufacturer is expected to fix it under warranty.

It's bullshit. Manufacturers have switched to sealed batteries because consumers are fucking stupid. Further, a sealed battery allows you to make your phone sleeker with the same size battery, or a larger battery for the same size device that would have a removable battery. Not to mention having a removable battery makes it so wireless charging is much more difficult to implement(and usually why phones with removable backs don't have this feature), as well as making it much more difficult to water/dust proof the phone.

The benefits of being able to quick swap out a battery simply isn't much of a boon when I can just plug in my battery and get 50% charge in 30 minutes.

The market has proven it time and again for the last several years, 95% of consumers don't give a fuck about removable batteries.

One of the major reasons why I bought a Moto G5 is that its Android is virtually stock. I agree, but I'm sure having a non user-removable battery is just a planned obsolescence move: my old Nokia served me for eight years because at that time there was no such thing as OTA updates that fuck up your OS, and because even a stupid boy like myself more than a decade ago could replace a swollen battery by going to the store and picking up the battery that matched the slot in the phone. I changed battery to my S4 too, and because of this I'm getting a few extra months out of it.

Once it was easy and economical to do, but nowadays everything becomes heavier and more obsolete each year that passes software side, and if this wasn't enough: there you go you stupid end user, your battery is shitting itself and you have no way to check its health nor replace it, easily. All this contributes to the "MY PHONE WORKS LIKE SHIT!" effect, to which the answer is usually "I'll change phone".

Most people are happy to do the following things in this order:
>browse the internet
>chat through messaging apps
>do and receive phone calls
>use social media "look at me, I need attention" apps
>play stupid games

Any five years old flagship nowadays can do all the above pretty well because hardware wise they're more than capable of handling them, it's just that they're made to break way more easily than late '90s and early 2000 phones. On top of this, all the software bloating, united to the sealed battery, add towards the "perceived" failure of a device, where a smartphone isn't strictly speaking broken, but it just doesn't deliver the day-one performance, which in turn for the stupid end user it translates to "it's broken" way ahead of its hardware expiring date.

Hell I wouldn't want to change my S4 if it didn't have major hardware failures (like the SIM card not getting detected every now and then in the middle of any kind of normal use).

What I'm just saying is that it's bad producer practice.

So, which one? they are worth the same here (G5+ is the 64/4gb variant btw)

Should I get the Moto Z Play or Z2 Play? I really want that 4GB of RAM for more background apps but at the same time the Z2 play has far worse battery life.

I hate huge phones. IPhone 7 is slightly too big for my tastes, if that gives you an idea.
i don't want every action to have a second of lag, but I don't care about graphical performance.
I currently have an iPhone 5S, and I truly do like apple's interface better, but with every update it gets worse and I think I just want to move to android because at this point I could rice it myself to feel better.
I'd also like something that handles media well. Satisfactory music and video players.
And also importantly, i'd like to have a camera that doesn't have a delay between when you click the capture button and when it actually captures. I hate that shit. Feels like every phone does it now because they're trying to take 10 different pictures at the same time and color correct and process it before you see it.

Do I have to shell out for the top phones for this? Can I get away with something like the OnePlus Five?
>>
>>62157587
With all your autism, I think you'll hate the OnePlus JellyScreen.
>>
>>62157707
That reminds me, I also don't like phones with the touch edges.

But I feel like most of what I listed should be par for the course, it's just that phone creators try to push the limits of their tech which ends up causing lag and shit. I've never touched a galaxy phone that actually responded immediately to my finger presses.

Is the Pixel even worth considering, or should I just wait for Pixel 2 and hope it comes to Sweden? I'm all about the camera and my life is in the hands of big brother Google anyway. I have been really effing happy with the OP3 the last year but the camera finally broke after daily abuse. The OP5 seems kinda underwhelming so idk if I'm interested in it.
>>
>>62157894
I also have a Nexus 4 (which a replaced battery and screen, but it is too old for me now).
What relatively mixed things?

I don't know which would be better and which I'd choose. Depends on what you're after.
What I like about them:
A5: great battery, good build quality, good screen, Samsung Pay (I am curious to try this, I don't know if it is good)
G5+ 4GB: more storage, more RAM, probably has custom ROMs (haven't checked)
>>
>>62158121
>What relatively mixed things?
Ramblings about software and UI mostly.

However, I'm more concerned about battery since my N4 is very old and the digitizer is dying. The G5+ seems like it'd be a good toy to load up a game or two on, but how is the battery compared to the A5?

^this although their complaints aren't unfounded. the only legitimate complaints are that the green bubbles (sms) send or arrive out of order, or take too long to be received. This is especially an issue when people treat sms messages like instant messages and send break messages up into separate messages/bubbles. I don't know why people do that in the first place because dealing with the vibration or ringer when multiple messages are coming in is annoying as all hell. In the grand scheme of things it's just an extremely minor inconvenience that people blow out of proportion.

Anyone else use a Moto Z (or other Moto phone), and know why it's such trash?
Mine just started a thing where it decides to get stuck in random rebooting loops that it will continue until I charge it to 100% (and they can start at any time, for example at 85% battery. which sucks because my phone is my alarm clock and its 1am). Before that, my wifi died on it, and bluetooth was dead out of the box.

Nexus 5 (2013) here, working pretty well, battery and camera are shit compared to new stuff, lags a bit but does the job, looks fancy with Launcer3 and I make my colleagues flagshipfags jelly with the wireless charger I keep at work (USB port is old and almost ruined but they dont know that hehe)
Recently I bought a pair of SICK Carl Zeiss Binoculars 1978 so now I consider a phone upgrade with a decent enough camera to take shots of the night sky.

I have a Moto Z2 Force that I admittedly got for free through work, I work for a major wireless carrier and I'm the district's Motorola rep.

I actually really like this phone. I mean, free is a good price, obviously, but battery life is SURPRISINGLY pretty great (and I don't even use a battery mod) for the battery of it being so much smaller than the Z1's. I don't know what kind of fucking black magic they worked but the battery is more than adequate to last me two days.

Lack of headphone jack is kinda bullshit but it personally doesn't bother me too much, only place I play music is on my car's bluetooth so whatever.

I like the accuracy and placement of the fingerprint sensor, I wish more manufacturers would place it in a sane fucking place like the front than the stupid shitty back, like seriously who ever thought that was a good idea

Camera's okay, certainly not bad, but it's noticeably worse than the Galaxy S8.

I've always liked Motorola's software, stock android with a few actually fucking useful features, unlike Smasung's S Health and Bixby bullshit that nobody fucking likes or cares about

You didn't get memed too badly, this is a nice phone.

>>62169417
Yup.

>>62169421
It isn't as bad as heat and depleting it, but she should avoid it.
Can't she charge it while taking a bath and eating dinner? That should be enough.

>>62169436
I'll use myself as an example.
My phone's battery is great, so, when I won't use the phone much the next day, I charge it to 75%~80% and I still have more than 20% at the end of the day.
When I'll have a busy day, I charge it to 100%.

Tl;dr: keep it between 20~80%, fully charge it when needed (not always).
>>
Bought the OnePlus 5 (64gb) for $430 USD, did I do good?
>>
>>62169736
Does it have jelly screen? Can you notice during normal use?
>>
>>62168550
That channel produces a show: only his bend test is somewhat relevant, but the rest is just to damage the phones for the viewer's leisure. There are better channels for this kind of stuff, like How2Tech.

So, I forgot my iPhone password (yes, I know, very clumsy of me haha). Is there anyway to bypass this?
>>
>>62169623
Seeing how phones keep getting more and more internal storage, it's not really a necessity. However, being able to transfer stuff from your phone to another phone via SD card is very convenient.
>>
>>62168412
Yeah, free z2 force anon here, it's very soft plastic, which is what makes it unbreakable. You HAVE to use a tempered glass protector.
>>
>>62170159
take it to the apple store
>>
>>62170159
You can start by giving it back to it's rightful owner.
>>
>>62170159
Literally nobody, not even the dumbest retard, forgets their phone password. Fuck off, thief.
>>
Does anyone have experience with cutting SIM cards? I'm switching to a phone that has a nano sim while my current phone is micro. T-mobile said I would need to buy a new SIM but it sounds like a ripoff. Does cutting a SIM card work or has anyone had issues with this sort of thing?
>>
>>62148328
xiaomi finally releasing a pure android phone
>>
>>62169623

If you get a phone with 264GB of storage then no.
>>
>>62170723
It works but getting a new sim card is a good idea since you can just pop the plastic out of it and adapt to any size back and forth.
>>
>>62170780

I meant 256GB.
>>
>>62170522
I'm a T-Mobile sales associate.

SO MANY FUCKING PEOPLE forget their Apple ID and Google passwords. It's fucking unreal.
>>
>>62170842
Apple ID and Google password is not the samr thing as the lockscreen pin/pattern.
Hell, iPhones have touch id, did he lose his fingers too?

You're right, I misunderstood. I've still seen it happen, though. Don't underestimate people's ability to be fucking stupid.

fucking worst korean filth, if the top/bottom bezels were both as thick as the bottom bezel it would actually look ok, still pretty gay tho

Looking for advices, been using the iPhone 7 since its release but I'm tired of the small screen, and I don't want a brick in my pockets either.

Question is should I just get the S8 (re-selling the 7 right now should cover the full cost), or wait for the 'iPhone 8' ? Considering that if I go for the S8, I'll just snatch the S9 as soon as it's released.
>>
Is $300 a good price for a new axon 7?
>>
>>62169736
where did you find it?
>>
>>62169837

What's jelly screen?
>>
>>62171534
oneplus has a 10% off deal for students, you can find it if you google it, just need a school email
>>
>>62171572
nah, they don't ship to my country, was hoping it's some chinese store or something.
It's a good deal, you probably won't be disappointed.
>>

slightly uneven scrolling, can't really see it in normal use, barely visible in slow motion videos even
>>

Where? But yes, it is.
>>
So what is the most reliable chinkshit xiaomi seller on aliexpress? Xiaomi retail store has the best most orders
>>
>>62171500

Same here but i'm thinking of getting a cheap xiaomeme instead.

And if I end up not liking it i'll get an iphone 8 when im in the states.
>>
Is the blackberry passport still a good phone? It looks pretty decent since I only need it to write texts.

They're all risky and will try to chink you if you'll be unlucky enough to get a bad unit.
Just choose the cheapest one which sold a decent amount already.
>>
>>62150976
I regret mine, my wife's s7 started overheating and stopped working after 6 months, as for mine I hate the edge features and the battery has gotten noticeably worse since I bought it.

I will say this, the camera is the best there is for the price, it even beats the iphone7. But Samsung bloatware and issues make it shit. Just wait a bit longer and get the g6 or something.
>>
is ZUK a good brand?
or is it a meme?
what about Meizu?
i want a decent chinkphone but i don't want to have to wait a million years for xiaomi's permission to unlock my bootloader

but i have read experiences of it being longer
>>
>>62172129
I'm pretty sure that in most cases unlocking the bootloader is not as issue.
That seems like a really weird reason to avoid a xiaomeme.
>>
>>62171500
I'd recommend the S8. Hop in the Galaxy forever shit and upgrade to the S9 for no cost when it drops
>>
The fingerprint sensor is so fucking convenient I don't even care about the potential privacy risks and google storing my fingerprints in their database
>>
>>62172283
this, and you'd probably be interested in ROMs, of which xiaomi has better support for by far
>>
>>62172474

Will this card be fast enough for games and any app as if it was installed on phone storage?
>>
>>62173417
yeah pretty much. that stuff is legit
>>
>>62173142
All the better then, especially since the fingerprint sensor in my Moto G5 doubles as a home and navigation button

I'm having issues with Android tethering. I'm running 4.4.2, tethering a wifi connection to a Windows 7 machine, and it will last for anywhere between twenty seconds or five minutes until it'll simply die. Windows still recognizes the connection, my phone still recognizes the connection, yet no requests will work at all. Any ideas?

I got an Android phone, just got a new SD card and am trying to install apps on it. It's telling me that I don't have space in my internal memory even when I selected to make the SD my main installation device. How do I make Play store just install apps onto the SD?
>>
>>62174064
Use Link2sd
>>
>>62172283
Are there better reasons to avoid xiaomemes, then?
I've already been memed once into buying a shark card, and I'm worried my limited mental capacity is letting me down once more

THinking of buying this? Any good??
>>
>>62174889
The galaxy note4 is a good phone, but it came out originally in 2014, so it's not exactly a recent phone. It has a good CPU and GPU for it's time, but by today's standards it's half as powerful as a flagship.

>>

Because they want to charge that much and they're currently on the Note8, so its not like they is a large supply of Note4's out there. It's no longer being produced.

currently using an LG G4, and I love the screen and camera, but holy fuck this thing is laggy. opening whatsapp takes literally 3 seconds, and Snapchat kills the phone 50% of the time

is this normal for a g4? I've had two different g4s over the last 3 years and both phones did this shit. is there a lighter OS I can install?

I'll probably replace it altogether in ~6 months, but until then I'm stuck with it
>>
Technological illiterate here: I cracked the screen on my samsung galaxy s6 active by chucking it at a nigger who was robbing me. I know i'm an idiot - but it was a moment of rage. I'm pretty sure the lcd display and screen are both fucked, however the phone itself works.

I think it's most likely not worth it to have some techie repair the whole display assembly (and end up paying as much as I would for a new phone), and I can't even begin to envision how i'd take it apart myself since every layer seems to be basically inseparable, so I'm looking for a good phone you /g/uys would recommend that I can switch my sim into. I have at&t and am in the us, and really liked the active but am very low on funds after said robbing. pls help.
>>
>>62175985
what's your budget? luckily we live in the best timeline, so there's literally a dozen $300 smartphones out there that will shit on flagships from even 2 years ago

$200-300 ideally

screen gestures that launch apps, lower and increase brightness to max, and it now has pixel's swipe left thing.

any solid pre-paid phones out there with a decent-good camera, i was looking at reviews of the galaxy j 7 and it looks decent but im retarded when it comes to phones

I mean I don't use bluetooth that much, so it wasn't that big a deal. Didn't expect the thing to brick itself within 6 months.
