F-Droid is just one software repository, its up to the developers to upload their projects there. there are a bunch of nice things hidden in the depths of github, for example. The only thing you should really care about is the freedom of the software, not the site its hosted at.
also, i recommend adding the izzysoft repo to your fdroid app, it scrapes some really nice things from github and similar sites.

With official fdroid repo you are sure to only have free software. Say, firefox claims itself to be free software but does include some blobs and so you won't get it on fdroid.

actually, f-droid removed firefox because of non-free extensions.
i still use firefox, because icecat is slow as fuck and lightning struggles with more than 15 tabs.
