If you've never used forth before try playing around with a forth like ans forth so that you learn the ropes.

Then just pick a chip and start writing assembler.

I think this is a troll but anyway. For a Forth chip, you should just submit pull requests to https://github.com/jamesbowman/swapforth . For a Forth OS, just fork http://forthos.org/

But I'd argue that you should do neither of these. Install Gforth and write some applications that interest you instead of yet another half-finished non-standard compiler.
