I have been following Purism for about a year. They aren't a perfect company, but I think they are doing a good job of communicating and working to make secure, FLOSS products.
I preordered just to support them.

It feels to me like this is getting shilled extra hard here lately, but you know what? I'm actually interested in this.
android does not run on linux apparently
How can this possibly succeed where Firefox OS, Ubuntu Touch, Kde Mobile(?), etc have failed?
However, I want to believe...

Android doesn't run on GNU+linux
>>62134243
It runs Linux, but not GNU/Linux. (They are one of those people)
>>62134248
Because it's different, you can run Ubuntu - not Ubuntu touch.
You can also run Debian and Fedora.

Privacy usability and hopefully its updated more than once in its lifetime. The likelihood of all three thing happening isn't good though.
>>62134243
They could integrate anbox(or add an option) but it seem they really want native apps to run on it.
Big plus for me.

But those aren't that great on a smartphone. Because it can run them doesn't mean it will be easy to use
>>62134339
Not yet, give it time even the iPhone was horse piss at launch.
>>62134365
I mean, those only need a more touch-friendly interface so people can actually see them as an option for smartphones.

The problem is that window has passed. People expect their phone os to be polished and will not accept the "wait for it" spill that /g/ loves.
>>62134410
Being able to run full distros really appeals to me, if it's even halfway usable at launch I'll buy one.
>>62134324
>cell phone
>privacy
what's next? Virgin hookers and honest politicians?
>>62134410
That's what happened to windows 10 mobile iirc.
The OS is kinda good now, but Microsoft though it was a good idea to launch phones with an unpolished version, full of bugs and crap.
Only a few nuts would want an unfinished piece of software just to be different
>>62133861
It seems like an awesome idea IMO. Linux, especially Gnome with some plugins, could easily support this. Hopefully it gets off the ground though, since I'm not exactly in a financial position to throw $600 at something I may or may not end up getting.

Sailfish OS is a full distro. Have you ran it or bought a phone that ships with it?
>>62134243
>call mum
>hello mum I got this new cellph-
>phone starts playing a recording
>"excuse me what you are referring to as phone is in fact GNU/cellphone or as ..." this plays on every single call followed by a complete recitation of the GPL.
T-thanks

>win10 mobile ... kinda good now
still much slower than 8.1 on my 735, everything was perfectly smooth before the update
some apps are now to low on memory resources to do some of their tasks (can't dl a video from 6tag/ can't upload more than 4 pictures at once on fb ... for instance
some bugs and even a few freezes (not as much as my galaxy s8)
still lack of apps
>wp8.1 was so much better, even it's design was more consistent. if only they had kept the projects of making it compatible with android/ios apps ... if only ...
