So who here's going to get the 18x17, 306-key macropad on Reddit?
>>
Waiting for my filco mj2 (blue switches). It's my first mech. I'm very excited!

Gonna get some new keycaps in a few months once the originals start to wear out.

Are tai hao any good or should I pay the super expensive signature plastics price?

>>
>>62132253
Tai-hao are fucking garbage. Thin crap covered in an awful sticky "anti-biosis" coating that nobody likes, and their PBT caps frequently warp.

Skip both them and SP, buy something like EnjoyPBT from China. You won't find keycaps with a better price:quality ratio.
>>
>>62132304
Cool, thanks.
>>
>>62132253
Don't buy $20 Tai-lmao keycaps. Spend the extra 10-20 bucks and get something good. The cheapest EnjoyPBT set is 40 bucks, and you can get NPKC and Gateron PBT for like 30 bucks
>>
what is the intended purpose of the three rows of F1-12 keys?

>>
>>62132945
Just buy an Ibm model m
>>
>>62133110
They're more expensive than new stuff, also I wouldn't buy an old used keyboard anyway.
>>
>>62132945
So tactile being noisy is a con for matias, but not for unicomp?
>>
>>62133535
It's just in comparison with the Quiet: if you want I could have just put that in the Pro:
>Tactile is cheaper/Quiet is silent

This is just to underline that the fact the Quiet is less noisy is an added benefit that however comes at a significant cost, because overall it's more or less the same matias switch, just like I've the cherry mx comes in a wide variety of colors, but they're fundamentally all the same cherry, at least the "mainstream" ones.
>>
>>62133758
>significant cost
Isn't the price difference like $20?
>>
>>62133785
I'm buying from the EU: on The Keyboard Company the Tactile Pro comes at a reduced price of £95, while the Quiet Pro stands at £138, which is a 45% difference. In dollars it's like $55 of difference.
>>
>>62132945
The 122 model M has media keys
>>
>>62133895
That keyboard is impractically large.
Also
>that arrow keys layout
>>
>>62133874
Well I heard the switches on those boards get a lot of keychatter, I almost got one myself.
>>
>>62133223
You can get a Model m in very good condition for around $70 and the build quality is way better than any keyboard made today.
>>
>>62132253
What guns do you own?
>>
>>62132606
How are NPKC?

It would be very convenient because they're available on amazon, and I already have enough in amazon gift card funds ready to go.
>>

I'm not allowed to own a gun because I've been in a mental hospital before.

I'll en spending like 350€ on a Razer Orbweaver Chroma for gaymes and an POK3R ISO with Spanish keycaps.

200€ for the POK3R and 150€ for the Razer,

The POK3R I had on the whislist or whatever is now out of stock so now I have to buy another that is more expensive and buy the keycaps from mykeyboard.eu.

Is there any cheaper alternative?
>>
>>62134553
Try to obtain a BB gun to make photos of it together with your filco.
Dont forget to post them here !

>>
>>62134539
Gateron/EnjoyPBT make the best PBT keycaps you can get blanks for like $40 on originitave and it ships pretty fast I got mine in 4 days
>>
>>62134000
I've found a few posts about bad QC for Matias keyboards and switches, but at the same time I've found posts saying that the chatter either goes away on its own, or that you can open the switch itself and clean it, and this should solve.

>>62134266
Beside the fact I don't want buy a used keyboard, buying from outside the EU means shipping and importing fees make everything uneconomical.
>>
>>62134657
No i think its kinda funny
>>
>>62134704
Do you know not how to clean a keyboard? Also buy it in the EU then.

Not in here. I have a decent receiver and speakers in my livingroom but in here I just made use of a Yamaha home theater speaker package I bought in the 1990s and a 500W Yamaha receiver off Craigslist to make use of HDMI audio out. It works plenty gud for gayman.

Forgive the old pic, it's the only wide angle shot I have. The rear speakers are out of frame but you can see the flat speaker cables running along the wall at penis height.

Good gravy no. I don't ride party lines. Hillary's flaccid corpse was propped up so unfairly and enthusiastically by the media that I voted for Donald reflexively out of despair, not out of support for his campaign or ideals. Or at least not most of them, I do believe American interests should always come first, as any nation should always prioritize it's own interests first and foremost.

He's made no shortage of poor (imo) decisions so far.

>>62135936

ANSI QWERTY

65%. 75% is also OK, but 65 is better.

>Backlight
Doesn't matter as long as I can turn it off

>Other stuff
- must be programmable
- keycaps will be replaced anyway so they can be shit ABS, I don't care. Or there can be no keycaps included at all.
- can be a kit. I'd even prefer it to be a kit. But it's not necessary.
- alloy case. Also, as flat as possible, also, with minimal or no bezels.
- If the PCB can be used with those hot swap holtites (or is hot-swappable OOTB), that would be great, I might want to replace a few switches with heavier ones in the future, or try a few strange ones, and while I don't mind soldering, desoldering can be a pain.

>>62139770
There's also the cooler master master keys tkl at exactly your price point.
>>
>>62139594
If you don't use the F keys too often, there's Drevo Calibur. Cheap, RGB almost-TKL. Also wireless if you ever need that, but can be used in wired mode. It doesn't have the top row so the F keys are on a layer.

I have no idea how good the keycaps are on Gramr, but I've had the Calibur for a while and they were surprisingly very decent for the price (quality wise), although with a very ugly font.
Also, I see a black gramr with brown switches. I don't think it's RGB though, just single color backlight
>>
>>62139988
Yeah, it's backlight which is better than nothing I suppose.

>>62139940
You mean the no backlight version? I could almost get the iKBC 87 which I assume is higher quality and would allow me to add leds to it if I wanted.

Could someone explain why switches needing a higher force for actuation are recommended for typing?
>>
>>62140844
Cause with linear switches it feels weird. It feels like you didn't press the key at all. It's awful. Also you keep accidentally hitting the space bar and shit because a slight breeze actuates it.

On my ancient rubbermat dome piece of shit, the shift keys are really heavy and feels like they're fatiguing my pinkies a lot more than they should. So I guess seeing actual numbers but not being able to measure my current keyboard means I want to shy away from heavier switches, even if they're magnitudes better than what I'm using.

>>
How are 60% keyboards for general use in tiling WMs and terminal in linux? I'm considering getting the pok3r due to aesthetics and the programmability, seems like that would make it much more usable.
>>
>>62141647
Should be fine however without the arrow keys means you might have to create different bindings for some WMs that default to arrow keys to switch panes.

Personally I use the arrow keys quite often.
>>
How might the quality on this $10 plastic case be?

www.ebay.com/itm/232046320457
>>
>>62141688
Hmmm, is it not possible to remap the arrow bindings to hjkl somehow?
>>
>>62141722
Yeah you can. Most WMs should allow you to do that. But sometimes you might want to use both. For example, the arrow keys resize the panes, and the hjkl puts them to focus. 61 keys kind of limits how many keybindings you have available to set. 87 keys gives you way more breathing room.
>>
>>62141768
I already have all the stuff in i3 remapped to hjkl, I was just wondering if it was possible to remap the systemwide arrow keys to hjkl via the keyboard.
>>
>>62141876
Only if you reprogram the keyboard, and that would require a reprogrammable keyboard. Some 60% will have fn+hkjl for arrow keys. The poker I believe uses fn+WASD, which is retarded because you can't do it single handedly because the fn key is on the far right side and WASD on the left.
>>
>>62141906
The poker has built in FN and programmable PN, I guess you can't remap the FN keys though sadly.

I know this isn't 100% keyboard related but I don't want to start a new thread.
I have a G303 mouse and recently my scrollwheel started failing. At first it stopped registering very high scrollspeeds but now it stops registering at almost ANY speed.
This sucks really hard because I use a lot of programs with sliders where I need the scrollwheel for fast and precise adjustments.
I also while researching found out about "rattle" and noticed that my mouse rattles too.
Should I try to open the mouse up and fix it or just Chuck it?
The following things do not alleviate the problem:
>rebooting
>Patching
>Using different OS
>>
>>62146883

>Layout

>Form factor
Bigger than 60%, up to TKL

Not important.

Looking for a relatively compact keyboard to try with QMX clips hence PCB-mounted switches. Preferably programmable or supporting hardware Dvorak.
>>
>>62146990
there is nothing special about it. i just tried to build a functional num-pad, so i can input numerical shit and access every special character or positioning keys i need. Oh, and i added the "comma+space" I use the F-keys for something OS/DE relevant shit like to change the XFCE theme, tile windows in different ways...
The space invaders section is used to fire up scripts and applications.
>>
>>62147039
I have g303 too. Does your wheel scroll well mechanically?

I haven't opened it but I think it's the usual simple construction: wheel with holes between light detectors. I sometimes get misregistered scrolls and they are likely caused by hairs or dust.

Using a lens blower into the holes around the wheel seems to help. Compressed air can will probably clean it better.

I've been using a Model M for about 10 years now, and now I would like try out a modern mechanical keyboard.

I don't know shit about the dozen types of switches, and I don't want to assemble my own keyboard.

What brand should I look for? I want a complete full size US keyboard that has similar tectile feel as the Model M.

Recommendations?
No gaymer shit.
No extra USB ports
No display screens
No macro keys
>>
>>62148037
Any keyboard you get will be a downgrade from the Model M
>>
>>62148037
Filco full size majestouch 2.
>>

Get a ducky. Very clean/simple design (basically no branding), no usb ports, no screens, no gaymen rgb lights. You also get great high quality PBT caps
>>
>>62147642

>>
>>62148037
Basically this >>62148041
The only thing you can do is trying another form factor for as a sidegrade:
Leopold fc980m and cooler master masterkey pro m are more compact while retaining the functionality of a full size keyboard;
Ducky fill the space above the numpad with volume keys;
Matias have fancy switches (but seem to have bad QC), better than the cherry switches that are mounted in the above mentioned keyboards.

You can also look for ergonomic keyboards

>>
Are there any Matias-compatible plates/cases that aren't Preonic or Planck?
>>
>>62149102
Yes. Tai-hao makes some. Also Alps use the same cases as cherry switches. Its just the plate you have to worry about
>>
>>62148573
Blues have a relatively light peak force.
Get something around 100g peak, so even if you bottom out it'll be relatively soft. Cherry Greens or Clears (if you still want a relatively light actuation) for example.
>>
>>62149128
Err, I need some things clarified. I thought Taihao made keycaps. What do you mean by "the same cases"? That Matias would physically fit in a plate designed for Cherry?
>>
Is it possible to lube mx switches while they are still soldered?
>>
>>62149180
Tai hao also makes Alps clones, as well as their parts. Cases mean a case for the keyboard, while plate means a mounting plate for the switches. You can put a modern 60% Alps keyboard into the same case as a cherry one, but the plates are different.

Any light switches that don't feel overly mushy? How are Gateron Clears? I think I'd get something light. So far I've used MX Brown, MX Blues and Buckling Spring. MX Reds I've only tested for a little bit, not enough to get used to but I didn't really like them. If I wasn't too fond of reds, should I just give up on a lighter switch?

I'm ok with browns, but they do tend to feel a tad mushy and the tactile bump is a bit pointless compared to real tactile switches.

I tried out a 4 cm high Corsair mechanical keyboard, and it was too fucking high. Got pain in my wrists from using it after an hour with the wrist-support thingy. Recommend a good, comfy, low keyboard.

Good for you, I have no date of shipping for my new switches, ordered 8 days ago from the US
>an order from Hongkong gets here within 3-4days
>>
>>62167590
is the tada68 pcb-mounted? or are the switches soldered
>>
>>62167908
Soldered.

Found a Filco Majestouch 2 with browns while thrifting, for 4 burgerbux. Hopefully it works
>>
>>62169050
>browns
You'd better hope it doesn't work.
>>
>>62169050
I just got mine a few minutes ago. With blue switches. It's like an orgasm for my fingers and ears.
>>
>>62169243
Yeah browns aren't my favorite either, but beggars can't be choosers ya feel

>>62169278
Nice. I've been using a Magicforce tkl with outemu blacks and desu typing on either browns or blues is a nice change.

get a taller chair or a lower desk, dumbass
>>
>>62169794
Except that a few years ago they were the >current meme. Until every company and their mom started putting Browns on every keyboard ever.

Also, how do you put spaces and hit enter on this guy? Is it what arrow keys symbolise? How does it make you bend your wrists?
>>
>>62169855
the down arrows are spaces, one of the FN keys will do numbers and the other f keys

it is painful and agonizing to use
ortholinear is fucking retarded unless you have a split keyboard

Sit like pdfrelated, remove wrist support, lower the legs to make it as flat as possible. Put your fingers on a homerow and move your arms backwards until wrists are straight.
>>
>>62169848
Faggot, my chair and desk are both fine. My present, crappy, cheap keyboard is about 2,5 cm tall, and that's far more comfy than 4 cm monsters.
>>
>>62169455
Browns are shit. I unironically like rubber domes more than those scratchy bastards.

I wonder why it's the go to choice of literally every manufacturer.

What switches?
>>

ALPS apparently
>>
>>62170065
So, Matias, Taihao and now Datacomp? Could it be that in a couple of years Alps will stop being an awful "Better than Cherry" meme and get rid of chatter and actually get keycaps and keyboards instead?
>>
>>62170061
It's more expensive than amechanical and it's not even mechanical. Topre is a meme, barely different from rubber dome.
>>
looking for a compact wireless/bluetooth mechanical keyboard to pair with my PS4. so far no takers but this guy showed up out of nowhere

https://www.massdrop.com/buy/bastron-ipad-tablet-mechanical-keyboard-mouse

amazon can ship it sooner and has silent options, but have no idea what switches these are. switches are a vague "blue" so im guessing outemu or kailh but amazon offers a "silent" option over "sound"

should i TOFTT or just settle for an Anne PRO?
