Oi, straya cunts

I don't understand nbn and need to ask a stupid question. Everyone on my street except me was put on HFC a month ago, but after 5 calls, each half an hour long, apparently my copper cables are fucked, and now I'm at the mercy of nbn for eternity until they decide what they want to do.

My question is thus;
Why can't I pay an nbn subcontractor $10+k privately to install FTTP while the rest of my pleb neighbours enjoy peak congestion? It should be reasonable since they haven't fucking done any work on my property anyway, and they'll need to replace the wiring.
Alternatively, can I install fttp through some other bullshit fibre provider and then switch to a different telco's fibre plans? I don't want to pay $499 a month for internet, and especially don't want to be stuck using shitty 'hybrid technology'.
