Toshiba agrees to sell chip unit to Western Digital group

Goodbye sweet prince. Toshiba's HDD was great.

And then there were two

Duopoly now. We are going to get ass-raped on pricing now there is basically no competition

Every efficient production system turns to duo or monopoly when it reaches maximum efficiency and performance. That is not only inevitable, but desirable. Inferior products die out.

The fact that monopolies are dangerous and undesirable under capitalism is entirely the flaw of capitalism itself.

SSD IS NOT A REPLACEMENT FOR HDD

Loss of power means SSD loses data, that simply doesn't happen with HDD

You can store data on HDD for years and turn it on years later and it will still be there, SSD needs constant power and is not viable for long term storage
>>
There is not a single non US/NSA Hdd brand now, how sad.
>>
>>62127970
>>62127970
lmao why not just put batteries on ssd
>>
>>62127970
>SSD needs constant power and is not viable for long term storage
haha kill yourself

>the fact that monopolies are dangerous under Communism is entirely the flaw of Communism itself
When the state controls production it tends to make bad choices regarding supply and demand - histories of starvation back this claim.
>the fact that monopolies are dangerous under a Monarchy is entirely the flaw of the Monarchy itself
Pretty easy to control something to your benefit when the king is an "old friend" - relate it to cronyism at work
>the fact that monopolies are dangerous under a pure Democracy is entirely the fault of a pure Democracy itself
You'd be the biggest fool of them all to believe that the mass population would not be deceived by the biggest spenders.
>the fact that monopolies are dangerous under Democratic-Socialist rule is entirely the fault of Democratic-Socialism itself
This one ties into both the >perceived< concept of utopian Communism and the folly of utopian Direct Democracies

So,
Let Me Fix That For You

>the fact that monopolies can turn dangerous
>is entirely the fault of unchecked human greed
>and unchecked human stupidity

"Capitalism" or, put a more defined way, "People able to bargain the value of their work, trade, or crafts independently", is the most natural and efficient method of economics. Yes, it needs controlled intervention in certain circumstances, and is just as prone to the corruption of greed or stupidity as any other tried-and-failed method.

No go be daddy's little politics-for-the-people boy somewhere else. Maybe read a varied library on the topic, instead of just ones which fit your chosen feigned self-image of superiority.

and i don't mean to say that people should use ssds for storage and that the data doesn't magically disappear after a year or two with no power, but who the fuck do you think uses ssds for archives? everyone stores data on a mech drive and uses the ssd as the os/gaymen/software drive
>>
>>62127970
When was the last time you lost power for a year?
>>
>>62127769
Toshiba HDDs were great but fuck their support.
It was an ordeal in itself just to find out if the drive were still in warranty nevermind trying to get a replacement
>>
>>62127913
they didn't die out, you fucknut, they were purchased
>>
>>62127769
>which will help cover massive losses from its U.S. nuclear business.
wait what?
>>
>>62127971

Toshiba shot themselves in the foot by false accounting and they are now on big debt so they sell memory unit off just to make more buck to repay debt.

Their HDD had been great so far so it's a shame.
>>
>>62127913
in this cretin's stupid head, price fixing is not a thing that exists
>>
>>62128046
Nice butthurt wall of text, but capitalism isn't the same as free market faggot, now go defend the jew bankers somewhere else, shill.
>>
>>62128075

Toshiba's subsidiary, Westinghouse loses 7 billion and now their LNG business loses another 10 billion.

Toshiba's in dip shit now.
>>
>>62128088
I never said capitalism is a free market.
"Capitalism" is the definition of private ownership, and I like very much to have the private ownership of my labor and the things I buy for my labor.

A true free market is worse than any of the systems. A free market has very little control against tyrants and abuse.

Learn your definitions before making assumptions nigger.
>>
>>62127888
ban crony capitalism
>>
i was given a toshiba external hd for christmas and the pos broke as soon as i transferred my music to it screw you toshiba!
>>
>>62127769
>Toshiba's HDD was great
What the fuck are you smoking Anon? Toshiba's HDDs are really unreliable. I've had 3 die on me. Curently have 3 WD (Black and 2 blues) and they all work great.
>>
>>62127769
This is it. Maybe I need to buy Toshiba drive. Only used WD and Seagate now.
>>
>>62127769
>Toshiba's HDD was great.

NO
O
>>
meh we'll all be only using SSDs soon enough
>>
The article says chip unit. That's not the hard drive division.
>>
>>62129418
Fools maybe. I'll always have a more permanent storage option, at the least for backups.

And don't act like 5 years or more is "soon enough" for enthusiasts to replace, entirely, affordable capacity for maximum speed.
>>
>>62127913
You retard, there are only two because patents ensure only the largest companies remain competitive. Whoever comes up with and patents the latest tech suddenly gains a huge edge that competitors cant recreate even approximately because of the threat of lawsuits alone. A big guy could falsely sue a small guy and destroy them before the lawsuit even reaches a conclusion, which isbthr entire model patent trolls use, with only the dumb ones trying to sue the big guys
>>
>>62129464

It's entire memory division not chip alone based from Japanese media.

Toshiba had gone to the point they need to sell off its most profitable division just to save themselves from potentially 20 billion dollar debt.
>>
Are they getting the OCZ brand too? Or only the plants?
>>
>>62127888
Sad. Toshiba never let me down.
>>
>>62127888
>Duopoly
>>62127888
>no competition

Do you have brain issues?

This is like intel/nvidia + AMD
>>
>>62130500
Implying intel had any competition from AMD for the last ten years
>>
>>62129521
Apple is the most successful technology venture in human history.
