Are toroidal transformers a meme?
Toroidals are physically smaller and have lower heat loses for the same power rating as conventional EI cores. This can be proven in first year college physics course. What exactly are you asking?
O-Core toroid is the best toroid

They also make less electrical interference and humming. They are more expensive however, each transformer has it's own advantages and disadvantages.

if a device has a toroidal tranfsormer it's probably a high-end audio thing. Paired with good input filtering you can expect very low noise.
There isn't many high-power toroids though.

Just more expensive, but for example, proper audio equipment uses them because >>62118155
why is everything a "meme" to you fucks

Yeah, I agree, just fixed some 80's Hitachi HiFi stereo my pops inherited me and had one, I mostly see them on audio stuff just for the low interference and sleek profile
Yes, they are "better" than "normal" transformers. We don't use toroidal transformers everywhere because copper wire is more expensive than metal core. And in most applications you just want to transform dat power from voltage A to voltage B, not caring much about signal or noise.
rate my tori

Disgusting. Slobbered in sugar slime, baked far too lightly. Retched.

Nowadays switching power supplies are used instead of huge transformers.
No, but they're usually not worth it. They look cool though.

switching supplies are really efficient but shitty ones will make tons of noise on the power rail.
