My HTC 10 no longer requires a password BEFORE boot after wiping and reinstalling to upgrade from Marshmallow to Nougat. It asks after booting and getting to the lock screen, not before finishing booting. Did I fuck something up so it's not encrypted now, or did they just change how it works in 7?

europoor here, looking for a phone with budget of 350 euros

wanted features: fast performance most of all, for standard apps, not games
decent internal storage capacity, would like it if I can move some apps to the sd as well
good camera but this isn't as important as the performance
preferably already running android 7 or easily upgradable to 7

last thread someone recommended me the Honor 8 which looks excellent for the price but if anyone has a better suggestion at the same price I'm all ears

also thoughts on the sony Xperia XA Ultra?

Now I have a Moto G5 with virtually stock Android and I'm not sure if rooting it is worth it since there's not that many default apps I want gone and unlike with the Neo V (which had a pitiful amount of internal storage) these google apps don't take up that much space

Xrays and ELF generally cause single strand breaks, which are rapidly repaired. Pulsed fields however cause the formation of peroxynitrite and hydrogen peroxide, downregulate superoxide dismutase and gluthionine reductase activity, and thus spur lipid peroxidation, protein malformation, mitochondrial damage, base oxidation, and double strand breaks. Degredation of BBB integrity via iron sulfate group disruption also occurs, as metalloproteineases are particularly vulnerable.

I also have my computer in a shielded box. Monitor and wiring, oh well. I'm well beyond vulnerable developmental windows for leukemia, etc. Melatonin synthesis may or may not be fine.

Even with a 4x4 access point and VHT80 capable MU-MIMO access point my phone doesn't break more than about 400mbps.

Why is the Note 8 33% more expensive than the XZ Premium?
>>
>>62114424
Smaller screen
less RAM
No Spen
IPS instead of OLED
Dual cameras

And the fact samsung is far more well known for their cell phones compared to sony.
>>
What's the best android phone for security and can be degoogled?
>>
>>62114546
The Xperia XZ Premium has a 4K RGB IPS LCD display. The Note 8 has Pentile OLED and is a far smaller resolution.
The camera is probably the same cost as the two cameras on the Note 8.
So the only valid differences are the digitizer and RAM.
>>
>>62110120
So, I have this bluetooth controller (Mov 055 from Steren) on a Moto G 5, and it has different modes. When using the movement stick on gaming mode it keeps repeating the last action (e.g., Forward), which makes it impossible to play. How would I discard if the issue has to do with the phone or with the controller?
>>
>>62114627
How the fuck are you going to pretend a single camera costs the same as DUAL 12MP cameras?

Almost all reviews say the S8 camera for still pictures is basically just as good, the Note8 comes with TWO of those cameras, one telephoto, the other wide angle BOTH with optical image stabilization (the first in a phone).

Further, OLED is better than IPS, period.
Reviews even say, unless you've got a huge amount of 4k HDR content, the S8 screen is better, and the note8 screen is identical, just bigger.

You're pretty obviously a sony fan, but most people aren't as is evidence by their smartphone sales figures.

They'll take your money and give you a chink phone with decent specs that if you baby it will last you for 18-24 months, but even if you baby it, sometimes the garbage just breaks and the company just tells you to fuck off when you ask them to fix their broken garbage.

As much as I liked my 6p I must have been one of the unlucky owners of it. WiFi and Bluetooth can be a little janky but other than that I'm pretty happy with it.

It's not about NEEDING the speeds, it's about having a healthy and robust wifi network for any potential situation.

I have a 1gbps fiber WAN connection. I would like a phone that can at least achieve more than half of those speeds.

As it is, I struggle to break 400mbps, and it's usually ~350mbps.

wired speeds aren't an issue, wireless is. I know part of it is because my best wireless client device currently is my Note5 which as i've said, caps out at 867mbps link speed.

So I want to repair my old One Plus One.
There's an area on the touchscreen that doesn't respond anymore, and it's now impossible to unlock.
Is this the right spare part to buy?

G4+ has a nicer camera, GPU, and slightly better battery. Also the screen is 5.5 instead of 5.0 (I prefer smaller screens though)

Whenever I open a black or dark themed app (clover black theme), and this applies to apps with white backgrounds (facebook) but is more obvious non black ones..

When I click on the app icon, it will first open with a white background then become black.. Do you know what I mean ? Its a goddamn eyesore.

This doesn't happen in every app though, for example quickpic with black theme iediately opens in black, and so are system apps (black system theme).

Whats better in a long term view? I want to upgrade from my shit tier phone to something mid or high end, possibly the phone I'll be using for the next 3 to 5 years.

I have been given this options in the store and they all cost around the same but Im not an expert on the subject:

- Samsung S8
- OnePlus 5
- LG G6
- Huawei P10

Im from Costa Rica and my needs aren't very crazy, must have decent battery and able to handle every day tasks like texting / music / social media / youtube / clover / uber and not lag or get hot while switching between apps.

I've never owned a Samsung phone so Im concerned about comon issues people talk about from samsung devices (gets slow after 9 months of use, bloat af, constant heating problems) or chink phones like Huawei or OnePlus that may turn trash after a while and from LG I know nothing. What should I do /g/? What are the cons and pros and general recomendations?

If your planning to keep the phone for so long, discard the fragile s8. The OP 5 has a really good support from devs in regards of custom ROMs but the company will only support it for 2 major updates at most so, take that into account. I don't really know much about Huawei and LG had serious issues with bootloops with the G4 and G5, so I suggest you to do some research about any issues of that type with the G6.

Hey guys, I'm by no means a smartphone enthusiast but want to upgrade my very old phone. What is considered the lowest possible price for a "good" smart phone? I don't really want one that's super fancy; just one with a decent camera, and that doesn't have this issue my current one has where it's only limited to 32GB of SD space and apps have problems being moved to the SD.

Does $100 sound too low for a good phone?

P10 I found some instructions, S8 highly doubtful. You can't even root the Snapdragon S8, and the Exynos version of Samsung phones always has much worse 3rd party ROM support due to a lack of documentation IIRC.

If you're buying from a carrier it is even less likely that you will be able to unlock the bootloader on your P10 and flash LineageOS.

>>62113341
Depends where you are currently located. I would go to GSMArena and use their phone finder. The 3G bands used by BTC (Bahamas carrier I found information for) are supported by pretty much every phone, but they use Band 17 for LTE which isn't supported by your ZUK Z2 you linked. Again, use the phone finder and select all the LTE bands your home carrier uses as well as band 17, should give you some options. You'll be looking at Sony and Apple phones, as they have the most bands supported usually.

If you don't know what bands your carrier uses you can either google it or just reply with what carrier you'll be using it on and I'll look into it. Make sure your phone is unlocked so that you can insert a Bahamas SIM card so you don't have to pay $10/day or whatever your carrier charges for international roaming.

>>62114293
Pixel/XL has been discontinued at the major carriers here in Canada. I ended up buying a iPhone 6S just after the iPhone 7 reveal because I wanted to try iOS and wanted a headphone jack. You might have more issues since the Pixel/XL has had tons of issues with stock.

>>62114991
I'm interested in using Sailfish X (Sailfish OS for Sony Xperia X). Although I'm kind of spoiled in that with my current phone (6S) everything Just Werks. They're missing a lot of functionality on the Xperia X including the fingerprint scanner. It might be added in a future update, but I'm hesitant to pay 50 euros plus buy a phone to use something that doesn't sound finished.

>>62121442

Not much to be said about it other than it's a really bad choice for someone's first smartphone experience. Eventually upgraded to an EVO 3D.

RAM is a meme, specially on Moto phones.
I'm using a G4 Play and sometimes I open up a game, a browser, Clover and YouTube at the same time and 95% of the time they all stay in memory, but like you I also tend to keep my browser tabs under controls so I guess that kinda skews the argument. I can't think of another reason apart from tab hoarding or bloatware on chinkphones to have an exorbitant amount of RAM.
>>
>>62123703
RAM is somewhat of a meme, I have a Note5.

4GB RAM. I occasionally find myself running out when doing multiple things (web browsing with 5 or 6 tabs, duel links card game, pandora radio, snapchat, and messenger app). A few things it's fine, but throw in 5 or 6 things at once and you'll occasionally find when you switch back to an earlier app it closed in the background due to lack of RAM and you have to reload it.

I'm hopeful my incoming Note8 will rectify this since it has 6GB of RAM.
>>
>>62123831
Well I also couldn't give two shits about social media so that probably skews the argument as well since obviously I don't run any of that crap.
I've heard Snapchat real time filters can make beefy-ish GPUs lag, and don't even get me started on the disgusting memory hogs that all Facebook apps are.
Unless you're a power user, or a massive normie that runs every social media app at once on their phone, 2GB is already enough.
>>

Thanks I actually only have IM apps loaded and every other thing is closed when I finish using it.

What's a good place to pirate apps from? I see some good apps on the store like a clock and calendar app but don't wanna goy out for it.
>>
Which weather app has the best looking widget?
I'd prefer clock + weather combo. Only time and the current weather, not to show my location or anything else.

I just use the default one because I don't know better ones.

I was using it just before precisely while charging but with that low brightness. Nothing out of the ordinary happened.
Are ghost touches something that can arise or worsen over time? Because mine is pretty new, like a month old.

You constantly bought a bunch of garbage. This has to do with you buying undesired $200 phones instead of something good for $400.

Phones have plateau'd, $99 phones with 3gb RAM feel like flagships.

Think they got it fixed in later batches, only problem I have had on mine are the display is not as accurate as I would like and the camera takes a little bit to open up so I can't good creepshots.

Buying advice please.
>live in U.S.
>T-Mobile
>budget is ~$200, but will go as high as $250 if its really great value.
>must have 1080p resolution
>size is irrelevant.
>speed is most important quality followed by battery life then camera quality
Thank you

g4 plus

Thanks
I've done some searching already. Wouldn't the g5 or g5 plus also be in my range? Why not the 5th gen?
>>
>>62125517
g5 plus, sure
g5 is worse than g4 plus

I've aslo been looking at the huawei 6x and the k6 power. anything particularly bad about either of these? I'd have purchased a k6 power by now if I could but I don't believe you can buy them in U.S. Is the k6 Note supposed to be the
US k6 power?

I know how to get things from a computer to an Android device without connecting it physically.

But what about getting stuff easily from the phone to the computer? (Aside from emailing it.) Is KDE Connect good?
>>
Try AirDroid, I've never used it but people have reccomended it a couple time.
>>
>>62123699
Been using a 10,000 mAh Zerolemon battery in my Note 4. Takes awhile to charge but I get 2/3 days on a full charge. If you're ok with a heavier phone definitely go for it.

I remember using Airdroid a long time ago and found it awkward to use.

Ended up trying KDE Connect anyway and find it works perfectly for what I need, but thanks for the suggestion nonetheless.

anyone recommend any case brands? in general but specifically for an s8?

If you guys had to choose between the Note 8, S8+, and LG V20, which would you get? I am having decision paralysis right now.

American going with Sprint, by the way.

probs an iphone tbqh

I guess different strokes for different folks, but I can't stand iOS. My girlfriend gave me her old iPad 2, and it's great for reading, but I don't think I could deal with it as my default device on a daily basis.
>>
S8+, bigger battery, don't need s-pen

You're like a person afraid to eat toast because you think it causes cancer.
>>
>>62126268
I would wait for the V30
I don't like the glass bodies of the Note 8 and S8+
>>
>>62126472
The main reason I'm considering the V20 is because of the removable battery, and from what I've gathered, the V30 won't have that.

Honestly, I'd like to go with the PH-1, but no headphone jack is the most pants-on-head retarded thing.
>>
>>62125260
You're right, but there's more to a phone these days than just RAM. $99 is typically where there's compromises elsewhere if they perform like a flagship. In fact, the first time I did buy a flagship it actually felt like a complete package instead of a glaring flaw or two left on an otherwise decent phone. You really do get what you pay for in most cases.

What smartphones deal best with VR and games? I have a Nexus 6P, but the thing overheats almost instantly whenever I do anything graphically intensive.

Should I upgrade from my s7 edge or nah?
>>
Just ordered a moto g5 for my mom (still using a first gen moto g) . I was actually thinking of giving her my iphone 6s and upgrading to an ip8 but after hearing about the price i was like hell nah.

Did i do good? Is the moto g5 a good one? Or should ve i gottwn the g5 plus? She mostly do calls, whatsapp and skype and pics. Thanks

I got an s6 edge and the curve is a fucking meme I recommend upgrade immediately its an unusable piece of shit to use without a case
>>
Anyone here use a Zenfone AR? I have a hardon for Asus and am wondering if it's actually worth the money.

Yeah the edge bullshit is fucking dumb. I never use it outside of notifications and it's difficult to use with the FUCKING SAMSUNG BRANDED battery case. I'm pretty deep in the Samsung ecosystem though so my only options would be the s8 or the new note.

love my 6P. Only gripe is I got one with the buggered camera, which won't do macro or autofocus on close objects

I have a question? Why would I spend extra bucks on samsung or iphone when the 2nd hand mid-range xiaomi or lenovo is now as good as gih-end phones from few years ago.

upgrade in spring of 2018, im eyeing the potential LG G7 or pixel 2.

my 6p died, and my carrier is replacing it with a huawai p10. is the p10 any good?

Ausfag here, want to buy a phone with a budget of $500 AUD. Gonna be using it for web browsing, music and some gaming (maybe set the bar at being able to run Fate/Grand Order but I can live without it). A decent camera would be nice but it's not important. Storage space is useful but can be sacrificed for performance, SD slot would be nice. Would prefer it run android 7.

A friend recommended the Moto G5 Plus. I was gonna use Aldi as the carrier since they're cheap as fuck.
>>
>>62127916
You could probably get a one plus 3t for that much
>>
I didn't read anything about phones for a few years. I got a moto G from... 2014 maybe ? I think it's time to have something new.

Is there a phone <300€ with a screen <5" and with some decent spec ? If not I can still get a 5" but I would prefer not.
