This is two 20 core Xeonx vs a single 16 core Threadripper. More than double the core count for intel here, yet not twice the performance.

Its not making those Xeons look very good.

The bigger difference is the price. Threadripper is less than 1/5th the price of those two chips. If you wanted to you could just buy two threadripper setups and achieve the same performance for less and only lose out on some physical space. And then EPYC will be even better because of the even greater compute density.
