It depends, if you're just surrounding yourself with others who conform to your opinion of what a programmer SHOULD be, then you're likely missing out on some crucial people who would make connections and inferences to things you might not be able to.
In programming especially diversity in the workplace is actually highly beneficial if you want any sort of innovation.
If you're fine with a team of code monkeys who can't innovate, then feel free to hire whoever you want.
But in a creative environment you need someone to push the boundaries, and you wont get that if you never hire anyone different.
