Why do people spend so much time and money on polishing (Or lack thereof) these turds? I can get tossing the cheapo bracelet, and MAYBE getting a new bezel as long as it's not one of those $50 ones, but some go all fucking out for a $60-$70 watch that'll gain a minute a day.
>>
>>62094367
Because it's fun and you risk nothing doing it. FUck the watch up and you lose a few bucks. Do you think people want to customise a Patek or a JLC? Too risky.

Hello, I went to space too.
>>
>>62094463
It will be my first automatic watch too but I don't plan on abusing it by any means. I'll treat it like any other watch I've owned so far meaning trying not to damage or scratch it by any means possible. Heck I even cared about my 20 Dollar Casio watch as if it was some expensive piece of jewelry.
>>62094487
I heard it does not have hacking or hand winding but I don't really care about those features
>>
>>62094435
When people say a decent budget movement is dogshit, they're most likely the kind of person who genuinely takes Archie's advice to heart and cranks it to finely finished movements that cost as much as a car. Gorgeous finishing and watches altogether, don't get me wrong, but the most a lot of us are going to afford is something like a Sub or Datejust.
I'm going to be real with you; the 7S26 is a cheap as hell movement and is the same one as in the $55 SNK809, and they're made in Malaysia instead of Grorious Nihon so the QC can be lacking. On the upside, the movement is quite reliable for the price, and it's cheap as hell (Like $45 on eBay for a whole NOS movement) so you can just drop a new one in if the old one shits the bed like you would a Vostok.
Dogshit for me would be like one of those early Chinese ETA clones or something you'd find in a franken Slav watch which would shit the bed within a year and be impossible to repair.

It's a very positive hit and miss, meaning you're more likely to fall on a reliable movement that can work very well through quite a bit before needing service.

I've had and still have quite a bit of 7S26 and derivative movements (4RXX and 6RXX) watches and they have all been from good to excellent.

Hacking & handwinding aren't really necessary imho. They're just expected these days, especially when there are other watches at similar prices that have them.

It shouldn't have hacking if it's a 7XXX series movement.

If a vintage Seiko 5 doesn't have "SS" (as in Stop Seconds) on the dial then the movement is non-hacking. See mine >>62095213 that has it.

Check the back, or the lower printing on the dial.

It has the movement-model number there in a XXXX-XXXX format (A.E 7005-8020).

Though i do think it's a 7XXX series movement, so it doesn't hack.

That's a 6309 movement. They don't hack out of the factory but parts kits exist to make them hack.

Hello there /wt/
I'm looking around a bit, thinking about getting a watch. I never wore anything on my wrist, then I had an Apple watch, realised the constant notifications made me uncomfortable and having to worry about yet another battery is stupid. Sold it, now I have 150 euros to get a watch.

Yes. Screw down main crown with manual wind and hacking. The bottom crown is not screw down though.
>>
>>62095908
It's significantly older, and via the serial number i can see that yours is from June 1986.

And Seiko 5's were first produced during the 70's, and have evolved over time into the Seiko 5's you have in the market today (various movements like the 6309,6106,7005/6/9/19) and so forth.

I have a feeling you probably bought one of these cheap Indian Seiko 5's haven't you?

>>62096024
Radio controlled only works in certain countries, and the cheapest Radio controlled watches from Citizen are around 180~250$ for that doesn't look like mangled corpses from a high speed car crash.

Otherwise, a good option in your budget is one of the Orient neo70 chronographs. Or any new and not oversized Seiko/Citizen/Orient quartz.

Automatic watches are a different topic, with much more recommendations.
>>
>>62096088
thanks, good to know. and yes, i did buy it for $20 from india. how'd you know?
>>
>>62096123
Figured as much.

Anyhow, unless you enjoy knowing that the only thing holding that watch together is Indian excrement i would suggest to either toss it into the garbage or into the toxic waste disposal and buying a proper (perhaps new) non-feces lubed one that'll possibly out live you.

Also, burning it isn't recommended as the toxic gases will both impact the ozone and those who inhale them.

>>62096189
A short explanation would be the rickshaw crash copypasta, but i can't find.

So in the long run, Pahjeet finds an old rather trashed Seiko/Orient/Citizen and pays 20 rupees for it. Goes to the local shitting corner and grabs so fine Indian watch lubricant, gently spreads the excrement across the gears and prays to his Hindu gods that the watch will work. proceeds to carefully clean the dial as much as he can despite his instincts.

Afterwards he sells it on eBay for 20$ (Which are 1200~ rupees i think) making a massive profit, joyfully runs like a madman nearly slipping and crashing onto the ground after after stepping on the morning shit he took out the window and ships it to a clueless guy who bought it on eBay.

Is it a real Seiko? Mostly is, although it's usually extremely worn and brought to a barely running but good enough to sell condition.

Also, they regularly create hand painted fake dials if they are too far decayed to be sold as is.

>>62096245

It's a worn and roached Seiko 5 that cost your 20$ more than it should have, 20$ that were expertly swindled by Raj.

It may or may not work, though being a Seiko they do have a tendency to run no matter what you toss it through.

As far as how well it will run, only tomorrow will tell if it'll even fucking survive till then.

Found this watch in my grandparents garage. Seiko 7006 internet tells me it's from the 1970s. Unsure how to restore it. The Gold colour is all yucky and the glass has scratches and the original strap is missing so I tried installing my own but the spring bar isn't long enough or something because the bar keeps falling out of the hole even though it looks like it fits.

I'm a complete noob at this sort of modification I usually stick with the straps the watch came with but this was missing and ebay doesn't seem to have Seiko parts that far back.

Is it even worth attempting to restore?

Happened around 2010, only the ref. 214270 is 39mm. The 114270 is the last 36mm Explorer, made from around 2001 to 2010. I paid about $4100 a couple of months ago for one which was pretty much spotless and with the box and papers and everything. normally when watch hands catch on something, it's because the hand itself is dislodged or bent and catches on the other hands, but here it doesn't look like that's the case

This one is basically the ideal watch for me.

Does this Bulova look alright? Or is it franken?

Also what's /g/'s opinion on this Bulova Astronaut reissue? The price is way lower than the vintage ones.
>>
>>62102090
Absolutely never. The Accutron II has none of the stuff that actually makes the original hummers interesting. Accutron II should be a $40 watch.
>>
>>62102090
It has a high beat quartz movement not a tuning fork.
>>
>>62101443
what model is this? how much did you pay for it?
>>
>>62102039
Looks probably okay to me. Take a look at the second row, furthest left in the "Various Spaceview Models" section of Martin Marcus's gallery.

In any case if I were you I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Why the two tone Datejust if I may ask?
Also I never noticed that the way they arranged the date window on the Nautilus looks a bit out of place or is that just this particular pic?

SARY055, was I think 315 after shipping. Came straight from Japan.
>>
>>62102343
would you recommend buying it new or used? i think this may be the most attractive seiko i've ever seen.

I like the two tone Datejust, I grew up in the 80s and it was the aspirational watch to own.
>>
>>62102358
It's spectacular in person. I'd say new if you really like the looks of it. Got mine from creation watches but it may be cheaper elsewhere. Also the back is exposed so you can see the inner workings.

why?

Why did vc and ap fall into the making giant watches trap? why are idiots still buying 46mm 16 mm thick cuck axial swaomegas?.. who the fuck knows?

>>
>>62094565
shut the fuck up bro. seiko could easily put the 4r36 in there for the same fucking money. They sell the monster gen 2 which is a bigger watch with more lume and the 4r36 for the same fucking money as the skx. there is no excuse for seiko to be using that shit movement anymore. Does it work yes; is it reliable; good chance it will be; hacking and hand-winding? NO. even fucking vostoks have hand winding. I personally hand wind watches all the time and it saves me from having to reset them if i am not going to be wearing them for a few hours over their power reserve. Hacking is essential to accurately set the time. YOu can argue all you want that you don't need these two key features but the fact that seiko themselves make a movement with both features that is just as solid and accurate for the same money makes people hate the 7s26 and seiko for continuing to fucking use it.

its a 16mm on an 18mm lug on a 38mm sub. That was a military issue zulu strap given to royal navy personnel. That watch/strap combo is a legitimate military tool watch/strap combo that would not have been unreasonable to find on the wrist of military personnel at the time. Bond is a royal navy officer so it actually makes a ton of sense. I also personally don't think it looks as horrible as some of you do but to each their own.

No, all milsubs were issued with appropriately-sized NATO straps.

The only reason the undersizing is a fashion phenomenon is because Sean Connery's wrist was too large for the strap which came with the 6538.

The 6538 wasn't even a military-issued watch, and isn't suited to be one.
>>
>>62104707
It's an average nylon strap. The movie was made before NATOs existed. It was supposedly grabbed from a newsstand outside the studio hence it being ill-fitted for the prop watch.
>>
>>62104707
It needed to fit over the wetsuit not just his wrist.

I think it's a redial. If you look at the Japan 45-7020 on the dial the font size and thickness does not match genuine dial examples. I bet someone tried to hand paint that onto the dial.

Compare the lettering to this genuine example.
