Hey... is my Resume ok /g/?

Is 42k alright?
>>
42k is shit. Your resume is good experience wise and qualification wise, but damn is it cluttered and messy. Remove "also served as the computer specialist" it looks weird. What the fuck is up with the alignment of the words college and helpdesk and other words?
>>
>>62091569
Just realized that was censoring. Disregard that.
>>
>>62091525
>EMC
You want to unbind a depreciated LUN on a VNX 5400, and remove the storage group. Unisphere says there are still clients attached, when the LUN shows no initiators. Name two ways you can confirm and / or remove stale clients.
>>
>>62091569
I was hiding personal identifiable information

Thanks for your input!
>>
>>62091601
Well that EMC class was challenging. Hope you don't mind if I googled it.

>Your resume is good experience wise and qualification wise
He has zero experience outside of working at his schools helpdesk as a level 1. And his qualifications are a shitty degree from a community college and some free meme "certifications" along with A+.

>>
>>62091644
I'm defiantly in need of some experience. The TestOut certifications are not free, and can be challenging, but it is much less, and generic compared to Comp. TIA and Cisco's CCNA.
>>
>>62091659
yeah but that's hard work. You come home beat every day and it's hard to work on furthering yourself and your career.

They dont even appear to offer certifications just training classes. Send me a link to one of these supposed certifications.
>>
>>62091687
I started it out in LibreOffice ha ha ha
>>
>>62091701
Now's a good time to learn LaTeX. You can put that on your resume too.

The most egregious offense to me is the way the bullet point text dips below the years. The years should be in their own column and the bullet text should wrap instead of going under them.
>>
People spend hours making their resume look perfect only for the Jew to throw it out because the Salesforce didn't find the exact phrase it wanted.
>>
>>62091724
Also don't say "utilize" when "use" will do.
This is the no. 1 thing that they teach in English to avoid looking like a pseud. IT people might not care but the HR bitch in charge of filtering resumes could.

So, you admitted that you don't know exactly how to, and tried to look it up. I'd give you points in an interview based on that answer.

However, you either didn't understand the question, or otherwise didn't clarify the ask, so you'd loose points for that.

So it's a bit of a wash. But being willing to look up information would be enough for me to not end the interview.

And the answer is:
1 - From Unisphere, you'd have to enter engineering mode and clear the stale connections
2 - NaviCLI would also let you remove them.

you got ripped off, no one is going to value those certifications. no one is going to value a+ unless you want a entry level help desk job.

And I have no idea how you completed a CCNA program but arent certified in it.
>>
>>62091525

Wow, you're good at taking certification exams.
>>

I'd replace "help utilize" with "manage" in this instance.

all that fluff and still only 42k

fucking construction workers make more than that

IT is a joke
>>
>>62091818
Well, CCNA certification expired, should I still put it in?

The Testout Routing and Switching basically prepared me for Cisco's CCNA 200-125

It's True, TestOut is not known and generic, but I'm still hoping for a simple position for 42k.
>>
>>62091525
>TestOut
Literally means nothing.
may as well have gone to a community college and gotten certificates of achievements in the same areas. you would have at least had college credit for your work
>>
>>62091856
construction workers have higher on the job death rates than cops, and work in the 100+ degree heat.

>>62091861
>CCNA certification expired
why did you let it expire? you only had to take 1 test to renew it, now you get to take 2.

>should I still put it in?
yes

Associate of Applied Science

You skip the generals and go for the core classes.
>>
>>62091873

any manager anywhere makes 42k a year, no shitty certs required.

any delivery/cargo driver makes more than 42k

any medical asistant grunt makes more than 42k and all they need is one shitty certificate not 10 like in IT
>>
do you live in India?
42k/year is pretty pajeet.
If you live in the US your only going to bring home mid to low 30's
>>
>>62091870
I did get a dual-emphasis degree with a Certificate.

I still like TestOut, but I'd have to convince the interviewer of it.
>>
>>62091915
>I'd have to convince the interviewer of it
literally all that matters, and good luck with that. your time could have been spent getting a Net+ and Sec+ which mean much more and dont require any convincing on your part.
>>
>>62091902
42k is just the minimum that I am asking for, I think it is reasonable.

I did get an offer for 44k, but I was waiting for other opportunities.
>>
Oh boy a money thread conveniently yet again leaving out where you live.

Big city: shitty 1 bed 1 bath "house" a few steps above stick building literally starts at $900K.

20 miles outside the city: 5 bed 3 bath is $70,000. Rent it out to girls, live for free and make money on the deal, and suddenly your "$150K/year" city job is shit.

Please look up prices outside your area (yes, other areas exist, I know this is very hard to understand) to prove this.
>>
Well, I would say at least get your the colloquial foot in the door, but you've been working in IT for 7 years already.

I think your either low-balling yourself or your not really good at what you do. If you put a premium on your salary and present yourself with confidence you will look better to employers then just trying to get a job and asking for a meek 40-something.

Go in there like your the one interviewing them.
Go in there like your the one with the skill-set they are looking for.
Go in there like your the one who will get the job done
And go in there with the attitude that good work isnt cheap.

Unless you feel like your work is cheap, and then employers will treat you as such and either keep you in menial jobs or pass you up for Chad who wants 60k minimum
>>
>>62091906
>India
>42k
lol, you'd be lucky to get 10k there.
t. non-indian third worlder under 10k.
>>
>>62091965
Literally why would you ever buy a 900k house unless you are obscenely rich? Just rent an apartment for $2k a month, you'll still come out ahead over some idiot in bumfuck nowhere making 30k a year.
>>
>>62091969
Dang, thanks for the input.

I love computers, but I do lack some confidence, even though I've been through complex problems before.
>>
>>62092005
well, the cost of a house is only relative to your job.

but if you are able to buy ANY house you'd be stupid to be renting an appartment.

when you own a house your monthly mortgage payments are basically like putting money in the bank(minus the interest of course) because you build equity in the home. Not to mention that more often than not a home will appreciate in house over time.

An appartment will also appreciate in value over time, generally as the economy inflates and the price of the dollar drops, but you really get the shitty end of the stick on that deal
>>
>>62091856
IT is not only a low paying job, it's shit even if you own your own IT company because you are just playing bitch and nurse to the proprietary shitware your clients buy. It's 2017 and most clueless business owners have to keep around fucking windows server 2003 and become neo-luddites because the software their entire business is based on wasn't updated and the company that makes it doesn't give a fuck because they know it would take them bare minimum a massive amount of work to get the data out due to being well underwater in vendor lock in.

4 hours after the shitware crashes, the business owner will just go full neo-luddite and if you don't get blamed, they'll just come to the conclusion that they should go back to paper and therefore don't need you anymore. You could sit on the sales call with them for six seconds to spot from 800 miles away that this software is total shit, but they go behind your back and have them install it without telling you. Less than a month later it will break and you'll be the shitware's bitch. In the late 90s IT was the future super hot career but now you're just playing nurse to shitware that they're too fucking clueless to drop.

>le borrowing money from the jews to buy a depreciating asset is a good investment meme
http://jlcollinsnh.com/2013/05/29/why-your-house-is-a-terrible-investment/
>>
Now, for a programmer, or say, software engineer, what are some good certifications to have?
>>
>>62092047
>believing jews who would rather own the property you live in so that you have to make payments to them the rest of your life, rather then making payments for 20-30 years and actually owning something
>>
>>62092071
None. No one takes certs seriously. You could hire Zhang for $100 to pretend to be you for a couple hours and get a cert.
>>
>>62092079
>(((owning))) something
>still need to pay 1% to the government or else they kick you out
>>
>>62092047
>posted in 2013

>house prices were shit
how about a 2017 artice.
also how about an article by some source that someone has heard of before

>>62092083
Whats his email? im down.
>>
>>62092091
lol yup, i would rather pay 1% on a property to the government and own it. maybe rent it out someday. Now im making 48k a year on my investment. Need money to buy another house? leverage my equity in the home. Now own two houses, pay 1% on each every year. 10 years later, rent out second house. now making ~90k a year.

and you can go ahead and move in and pay me my 40k a year because your to dumb to own anything yourself.
>>
>>62092036
Less than half of what you pay on a mortgage goes to principal, most is interest. Money has a price, "cost of capital" for a reason.
If you aren't missing out on cutting big costs of opportunity it's always better to buy in cash. The inflation losses get nullified if you pump your money in diversified assets before cashing out.
>>
>>62092108
Enjoy having your property value go to shit because Tyrone and his gang moved in across the street.
>>
>>62092108
>>62092091
oh wait, nevermind, you cant move in because you can only afford an appartment and probably have horrible credit so you would never pass the screening process

>>62092114
depends on how long you pay your house off on and what your credit is like to begin with
>>
>>62092123
I have a credit score of 750 and make 200k a year. I enjoy being able to move and switch jobs for a 20% raise every couple of years.
>>
>>62092120
enjoying having your appartment already be shit because its full of many tyrones all packed into a tiny space
>>
>>62092135
your stupid not to buy a house and turn it into a rental, unless if you just made up numbers which you probably did
>>
>>62092147
Why the fuck would I do that? I don't operate at the scale of a property management company so it would be a losing proposition to me.

Over the last ten years, rent in this area has more than doubled. People who own houses are paying the same mortgage rates they agreed on, and they are halfway through ending their payments.

It's a good long term strategy desu
