I'm gonna be honest with you, if you care about build quality then you shouldn't be buying Lenovo computers - of any brand, including thinkpad.

Play the Lenovo lottery if you want, but know that some small part of your laptop is always not gonna be what you expected.

My display has bleed in issues and one dead pixel, and when it was being fixed there is a small nick on the body which I can't stop noticing.

Overall is the laptop nice, sure, but be ready to send it back when you get it and something is inevitably wrong.

With apple this isn't a problem. You know exactly - EXACTLY - what you are buying. You get a Macbook pro, you get a new computer with no problems. (like 99% of the time). With Lenovo, you can't do that.

Newer generation Lenovo laptops are not a good purchase.

The whole benefit of older ThinkPad is that massive organisations buy them and then dump them for very cheap after a few years, making them fantastic computers for the price. Exact same thing with servers.

Not OP but it does depend on a number of factors.
On a physical hardware note, the air flow with apple means your machine will throttle if you try anything to stress it. They didn't design it well enough for air flow.
Lenovo have good air flow, the best screen hinges, and repairable motherboards. You can also upgrade HDD/Other since Lenovo allows thinkpads to be opened without voiding warranty

Owning a laptop with a 2k screen is useless if you remove the users ability to have basic storage as the user needs it. They charge an insane amount for SSD storage upgrades which require a different model product just to have.

Same thing on my $1500 thinkpad. They didn't even fix it under warranty, they said it'll be $500 for display replacement.

This being said, I'll never ever buy a new thinkpad again. Their warranty is shittiest I've ever witnessed.
