Generally only for higher status user accounts where you're expected to have a ton of uploads anyway where you're the initial seed.

Basically anyone expected to have over 1.0 ratio would have NO problem actually having such a ratio.

Okay, so if you download a torrent and it's got a lot of seeds, it downloads super fast. Don't need to seed here. Super popular stuff supports itself.

I download something obscure and it takes forever. I finish, and I leave it seeding... No one ever downloads it. Why would they? Who has even heard of World/Inferno anyway?

Philosophically, a torrent works if it works. Seeding is placebo.

it kinda used to be that the popular stuff indeed supports itself, but because people actually care nowadays because they have faster, cheaper and more available network possibilities (cheap, fibre comes to more and more places) and because people use seedboxes you now have this wonderful situation where every torrent is seeded all the times.

Conclusion: we need people who seed everyrhing to oblivion, because that's what makes torrents so goddamn handy, hatin on those people just bugs me tf out. gladly change my view on this though
