>mfw my gear finally came in
>tfw it's not a rift or vive
>>
>>62083798
Why would you even bother with the gear? The only thing they're good for is 360 videos.
>>
>>62085209
They're great for porn because it's wireless so you can go anywhere, I live with my gf so I can't just whack off in the bedroom where my rift is, also friends filtering in and out the house
>>
>>62085209
porn, altspace, and i have a nolo for when my computer is better than a half baked potato
>>
Wouldn't getting a cheap phone vr headset be enough for watching porn?
>>
>>62087377
yes, but you will suffer a lot of drift. gear vr is the best for just watching porn.
>>
Wtf is Oculus' problem with the DK2?

On my brother's computer it let's me "set up" the headset and it's all fine.

On my computer it can't see the plugged in HDMI and USB for the headset, but it can see the sensor. it let's me skip the setup process and guess what, it just werks in every game, however it still says in oculus home that I need to set up my headset. How?

Deciding which to get. With the Vive down to $600, is the Rift+Touch for $400 still the best deal? Also, I wear glasses, and have heard the Vive is better for glasses wearers.

Any advice on which to get, /g/, short of waiting for the next generation? The $200 price difference isn't a deal breaker to me if the vive is better.
>>
>>62088341

Do you plan on doing roomscale? Vive would be better for that. Rift can do it too with an extra base station but Vive can do it out of the box and with far fewer cables.

Keep in mind though that Vive is not compatible with the upcoming SteamVR 2.0.

I would wait until the end of the year and see what's going on before buying into either. You might also get a better deal around black friday.
>>
>>62088379
I have a ~8ftX8ft area to use for VR; I like the idea of room scale, but that feels kind of small to me. I dunno.

Hadn't heard about SteamVR 2.0; will read up on it. Thanks anon.

>Vive is not compatible with the upcoming SteamVR 2.0
Whaaaaat?
>>

>>62088456

You can find several other article and explanations, but here is one such article.

https://skarredghost.com/2017/06/07/need-know-steamvr-tracking-2-0-will-foundation-vive-2/

>>62088436
About the same as me then, Vive can support 15x15 out of the box but some folks have stretched it just a little bit more than that. While 15x15 is ideal, anywhere around 8x8 - 10x10 would be a minimum for it so it can work.

Vive does currently have some aftermarket upgrades out there though. One company developed a wireless adapter and one even made a device that does eye tracking that fits inside around the lens.

Expensive as all fuck but Vive currently has more options going for it.
>>
>vive arrived today
>set it up and started going through all the free games
>feel kind of disappointed
>oh yeah doesn't minecraft have a vr mod
>it's actually really fucking cool

Of all things it was autism blocks that managed to impress me. I think it's because it felt like an actual game with a goal rather than messing around in a physics simulator. Anything else worthwhile that doesn't get boring after 20 minutes?
>>
>>62088638
altspace has some pretty interesting applications made by community developers
>>
>>62088456
>>62088513
TL;DR if you don't have time to read the entire article (I did) you might have to replace the headset, but not the lighthouse stations. Vive will probably sell the headsets to registered Vive owners at a super reduced cost, I predict around 200$ USD. Worse comes to worse you can just sell the Vive1 and upgrade to the Vive2 over the summer before Vive2 comes out. And this isn't saying you can't use SteamVR 1.0 to play VR games. SteamVR 2.0 will just be using a newer more accurate and cheaper tracking system that doesn't interfere with other IR devices (such as the kinect).
>>
>>62088805
Version 2 isn't until next summer?

FFS, long wait to buy one.
>>
>>62089138
Version 2 hasn't been announced at all yet. Could be next year, could be 2019, could be even later than that.

HTC is currently working on the Standalone Vive for Android w/ Google Daydream. Not at all related to the PC version and what it does.
>>
So no Vive this year no new Oculus this year psvr will be forgotten or at least the last to get updated. JUST.
>>
>>62089399
Yeah, looks like new releases are 6-8 months out. So unless you want to spend $100 a month to have version one, you are probably better off waiting.
>>
>>62089461
At minimum. Most people are predicting over a year, maybe even two before new versions come out.
>>
I'm not sure if Palmer Luckey is just shitposting or if he actually might by Vive from HTC.
>>
>>62090343

Please no. That would be just as bad as Google buying it, who HTC is also talking with apparently.
>>
>>62090388
He's not at Facebook anymore after they found out he was a Trump supporter, so wouldn't he just be switching sides?
>>
>>62090498

Oh, I didn't know that. As long as Zuckerberg isn't getting his filthy hands on yet another VR set I'm all for it then.
>>
>>62090613
Them buying out their competitor would not be a good, but at least Facebook buying Oculus turned out to be a pretty great thing considering what has happened (and what hasn't) so far.
>>
>>62090343
Of course he's just shitposting. He just wants attention.
>>
>>62090860
He is infamous for shitposting, but actually going through with it would be some next level shit.
>>
>>62091237
He asked the same thing with AltVR. Also this rumor has been going on for almost a year now. It isn't even confirmed HTC is going to split it.

>Bought an Oculus the same day the Vive went on sale

Not even mad anymore, this shit is tight.
>>
>>62091338
Honestly, I still don't know which one to buy (I'm >>62088341). I was fine with waiting for the 2nd generation, but I've been waiting for 8 months now, and I have the itch.
>>
>>62092407

Go for the Vive now that the price has dropped.
>>
Can anyone recommend a decent cellphone remote that won't disconnect?
>>
>>62088638
Get Dirt Rally if you're into racing games
>>
Man, I've only had my Rift for 3 weeks and it already has tiny scratches on it. You can't see it while it's on, but that's fucking shit. The only thing that has touched them is the cleaning cloth that came with it.
>>
>>62092407
Do not buy a Rift if you want to wear glasses. I wouldn't even use glasses with a Vive because of how easy the lens get fucked up... but if you must wear glasses get a Vive.
