So I just found out I've been typing wrong my entire life. For the past 20 years I've been hitting the space bar twice between words. And the only reason I do this was because a school teacher insisted I double spaced my papers and I had no clue what she meant

Double-spacing between words is typographically the correct way to go about it. Keep up the good work, anon.

That's a typographic preference, it used to be very common especially after a full stop, but has gone out of fashion since the rise of computers. But you never know, you could be ahead of the curve, Anon, ligatures made a comeback afterall.
It's typically something a typesetter should handle for you though, rather than double-tapping space in a text editor.
