If you had to buy a new laptop aka no old used thinkpads allowed, what would you get? No budget.
Aside from the constant XPS and Macbook viraling, what else is there?
>>62077131
Would get one of these or anything from the RZ line imported if I had the money best laptop on the market
>>62077131
My uni uses new panasonic.
Would avoid like the plague, worst laptop I have ever used.
>>62077131
T70
>>62077216
Is that so.
>>62077227
Is that so.
CONFLICTING INFO HERE.
>>62077279
I will admit, it isn't the flippy touchy one my school has, just a more basic lets note.
But it is slow as fuck and has the worst keyboard I have ever used in my entire life.
>>62077131
i have a Lenovo ideapad u330p. i like it very much. best laptop keyboard ive ever encountred.
but if no budget i wound honestly get a macbook or XPS lmao sry famalam
>>62077131
X1 carbon or P51
Dell precision my dude. It's like a thinkpad but with modern tech and shit.
I got an Acer Switch 5 for college recently. Specs are mostly garbage of course but it has long ass battery life and the tablet usage is more than decent. I was trying to get Android on it but it's tricky to get it to boot anything because it has a 32 bit UEFI and I can't be assed to set things up, especially not while it's under warranty. I'll fuck with it in 2 years' time
>>62077131
I have a brand new DELL XPS 13 9365, so probably a Thinkpad P71.
>>62077131
I got into this situation last year. Was going to get a XPS13 (2015). Went for a X260 instead.
>>62077131
>>62077366
I'm looking at getting the XPS 15 touch once I start A school after navy boot camp. I'm gonna spend the next 22 months after boot camp in the Navy's schools so I need something to replace my desktop.
Couldn't decide between the 4k touch or the 1080p non touch.
The touch is glass which makes it more sturdy, but the 4k drains battery slightly more. Opinions?
>>62077509
chromebooks seem severely overpriced for what they offer
>>62077509
>a shitty tablet masked as a laptop
try again
>>62077515
OP said no budget
>>62077510
>Glass
>Sturdy
Also thin bezels means a higher chance of failure if you drop it.
I'd try to something that is consumer-repairable with a good display and 8 or more GB of ram
Probably some sort of Lenovo Yoga like a 720-15, if they could ever be arsed to release more stock than about 3 of them to the UK.
>>62077547
Sturdier than the matte screen of a 4k.
That's a good point about the bezels I didn't think of, but it will only ever be on my desk so Im not to worried.
>>62077131
>No budget
>>62077131
Pro tip: they're constantly viraling because they're actually that good
>>62077728
>not the GX700
>>62077510
Why can't they just say "Margarine" on them, why do they wan to call themselves butter?
>>62077728
>>62077835
because when there's BUTTER on the packaging you might fool some people
Are trackpads generally still ass on non-apple laptops?
>>62078021
Laptops with Precision drivers gets you 60% there, Surface trackpads gets you 90% there, barring some extra gestures that MacOS offers, and force touch.
>>62077482
How is the x260?
I feel like upgrading from my x230. I mainly want a better screen and for the price, I don't know if anything is a better option than a used x260 (for that size, cpu ,etc)
>>62078058
pretty nice keyboard layout except for the arrow keys and print screen button.
why cant everyone copy this?
>>62078021
>>62078105
>No right control
>F-keys on a function layer
Why can't laptops just go back to a full keyset sans numpad?
>>62078105
I wish more laptops would copy the 3:2 displays. Why is this still mostly limited to Surfaces and detachable tablets?
>>62077131
mine is good enough.
Acer Travelmate?
I guess a new HP zbook, since thinkpads went to shit over the years. I wouldn't go for a 4k display, though. I care about having screen space for things, not high DPI. 4k would make sense if I had a laptop that was like 30 inches or something.
>>62077131
The latest thinkpad
>>62077131
Thinkpad with Wait™ Raven Ridge APU
>>62078772
Or perhaps a HP Elitebook with a Wait™ APU
Raven Ridge is my point
ill be down to try out an asus ux301 la
What if budget is a concern but you want to spend more than a used old thinkpad?
What's the best for like 500 dollars?
Is there a use for laptops anymore if you aren't some writer or reporter or in the liberal arts? Is just having a rig and maybe a tablet sufficient enough?
This?......
>>62079404
....or this?
Some chink shit that's the current meme.
>>62077131
ThinkPad T470p
t470p or a zbook/elitebook
>>62079404
>>62079415
neither
no budget? would go for he most expensive laptop desu
>>62078094
X260 is breddy gud but crrently Lenovo is getting better and better. The X270 is a lot more than breddy gud.
>>62078094
Wait for the next series redesign then decide.
X260 is good, FHD screen is nice, color is not too good.
Keyboard is smaller though.
>>62077131
Nothing. You said there's no budget.
>>62077131
I wouldn't
Computers 3-6 years old are pretty much always more than capable for modern tasks while costing much less since large organisations throw out computers after about 3 years
>>62079404
>>62079415
The Asus would be a much better choice
Lenovo Ideapad are fucking terrible quality
And the Lenovo also has shitty screen resolution
But you should go for a business laptop instead if possible
>>62077227
do they still make new versions of this?
>>62077728
too big and looks retarded but at least it has a good keyboard.
>>62079404
my gf has this asus and its really shitty compared to my T430
Touchpad stopped working, lid is not closing to the end, cd rom protrudes
Just buy thinkpad
An X60 with IPS screen mod
>>62077131
Getac portable server
Getac X500 Server. I have no need for a rugged server laptop, but i still want one for the hell of it.
X200 librebooted from minifree
>>62080251
yes they do
Toshiba Portégé X20W
Extremely light, 2 in 1, pretty durable all considering, looks nice, decent battery life. Only con would be lack of ports.
It wouldn't be my first choice of a laptop, but if I was shitting money, it'd be nice to have.
>>62080824
>t420 tier bottom bezel
NEC Lavie Direct NM
11.6" subnotebook with infinity-edge display. Only slightly bigger footprint than an 10.5" iPad pro.
>>62080849
For a 2 in 1, the bottom bezel helps holding it when reading documents.
Seems like there's a pretty big market for sub 12 inch laptops. How come they aren't sold outside of Japan?
>>62077510
1080p, I had the 4K (bought myself) and the 1080p (company laptop) and the latter is JUST SO MUCH BETTER
Battery lasts forever, the level of details is the same (really good screen quality) and matte >>>> glossy.
>>62080251
My grandma has one of those actually
>>62077131
a new thinkpad
>>62079415
fag pose
>>62077410
X1 yoga maybe
>>62077131
Samsung notebook 9 pro 15"
There's no customization options but I think it really hits the "this is reasonable" sweetspot.
