Make sure you remove company data before removing them.
The reason these things get trashed is because companies are like 'muh data'. Even though trashing them is actually more insecure than having someone dedicated to erasing the data, and then reselling them on ebay to recoup some money.

>No idea, my company throws out nice stuff like this all the time
Companies usually take advantage of tax laws. Not sure how it works in Washington, though it wouldn't surprise me if they use them as a tax write-off.

Basically, they buy them, and give them a shelf life (3 years). Every year, tax law allows them to say "this computer is worth 33% less each year", and that 33% gets written on the books as asset depreciation. Twist that around a bit and you can basically say "I have lost value in something, and this is an expense worn by the company, in the process of conducting business".

To make it nice and simple, you pay tax on your profits only. Not expenses. So the bigger the expenses and the smaller your profits are, the less tax you pay. Keep in mind the company has ALREADY spent $2000 per laptop last year, and they still have 2 more years of use to go. But with the magic of accounting, they can basically claim $2000 / 3 every year as an expense to "reduce" their profit and pay less tax.

Of course it's a lot more involved than that. But that is the basics of why companies chuck stuff out at the end of their life. They have already gotten their value out of it, and it's cheaper to bin them than to work through the legal bullshit of selling them. which is a different story altogether.
>>
>>62075590
Interested in one of them, email me at [email protected] if you're interested as well in negotiating a price for one of them.

>>
>>62077590
Paying farmers subsidies is not capitalism. It's government subsidies, and is a form of socialism.
While it is the case that you're paying for food sideways due to taxes, taxes spreads the load for food across the population unevenly, to compensate for the uneven productivity (in principle, in reality those who have the most power and influence also avoid the most tax), to keep food prices low.
Keeping food prices low is good for capitalists since it keeps populations large, people desperate, and labour-pools unable to unionise. The last thing you want as a capitalist is people who can demand equitable compensation for their labours.

hey op why don't you set up some kind of google form so people who want one can put up their email and physical mailing address, you will get at least 100 interested parties.

set up shipping charges like
>0 Local Pickup
>25 Mainland
>50 INT

they put their address up, you roll a RNG, send a paypal invoice to the person who wins and ship it out to them once they pay you the money.

pretty easy 3-4k for you if your company still has their boxes, if not cheap boxes are easy to find in bulk, and t420s are durable enough that you could just tape them to the inside of the box and they'd survive travel.

My company has 12 Dell XPS 13 locked up in a cage that are destined for the crusher. Some retards wanted a slim laptop for Managers, but turned out that since these things have no NIC, we can't really use them because we are a medical company, and wireless here is highly restricted, and can't be used because HIPA.

And because HIPA these laptops HDs must be destroyed, and since they are soldered to the board, the entire thing must be destroyed.

Very nice. Keep a couple of them so that you can play with Coreboot, hackintosh, and eventually install Libreboot in a year or two. They're definitely still usable. If you want maximum comfy then I recommend OpenBSD or Debian.
>>
>>62075617
>>62075983
>why?
Because out of warranty, and people want new shiny.

We throw away a lot of usable gear for the same reasons. Lots of W530's, M4700's, Precision T7600's, HP Z420's, Z820's, and servers.

Oh my god the servers. HP DL360 G8 (16c/32t, 128GB RAM, 4x 400GB SSD). Dell R920's (4 socket, 64 cores, 512GB RAM), HP MDS600 storage arrays (72x 3TB SAS HDD).

It's crazy. I can't take it home, because it's still an asset, and serial numbers are actively tracked even after decom, and lojack for laptops is turned on and monitored.

But good for you, anon. Enjoy it.

Jokes aside, because bean counters and corporate managers are not obsessed with squeezing every single second of lifespan out of something they bought when it was already nearing obsolescence. They are going to continue buying 3 to 4 year old tech in batches for reduced pricing every 1 to 2 years, because that is cheaper at the business-scale than buying brand new tech every 3 to 5 years.

I work in a US company, policy was to retain every single harddrive permanently. They've since transitioned to 3 month quarantine (legal holds aside) and then they can be reused.

We have a big metal trunk full of HDDs, it was too heavy for manual transport, had to be forklifted to storage.

We don't use anything special security-wise though. It's all unencrypted, zero protection.
