Idol trash here.
I have a shitstack, but I've been using the Fulla 2 as a test for a few days.
HD600 sounds good with it, indistinguishable from Magni2 unless at top volume (past 3 o'clock) where it'll distort just a little with compressed music (but it's also too loud, so who cares!). I find that most of the time, on the Fulla2, I keep volume below 12 o'clock anyway.
The Fulla2 ($99) is what I'd recommend for maximum value/money, due to its specs and functionality.

Meme. Feel free to try it when you have a proper modi+magni combo to compare it against. Remember tubes only last n hours where n is quite low, and so they do need regular replacement.

There's no reason to get any but the SR-60e. Almost all Grados sound roughly the same and are extremely slight sonic variations on the SR-60e. The very few Grados with a different sonic character than the "house sound" are expensive and vastly outperformed by other headphones in their price range.

The stability and reduced microphonics that design leads to are well worth the extra second or two of adjustment when you first put them in.

>DACs
They're a meme except you need one to convert digital to analog.
The "meme" part is that if your computer or whatever hasn't fucked up their implementation, you should be fine using that. But it's often the case they do fuck up.
Having one as reference doesn't hurt. A popular option is the Fulla2, as it's the same DAC as the modi, but also has an amp and pretty nifty feature set. Some anons here use them with a Magni2.
IMHO, either get the fulla2 or the modi2 uber or multibit. The "standard" modi2 is not good value vs the Fulla2, when you consider the features of the latter.
I have both the uber stack and the Fulla2. Love them.

The in-room loudspeaker response is the target curve for headphones which people do prefer, Anon.
That's literally what the study says.
>>
>>62069206
>>62069278
>It's important to note at this point that a flat speaker in a typical home listening room does not sound flat. Due to the ever decreasing dispersion of sound from a direct radiating speaker as frequency rises and the low frequency gain of a small room (boundary effect), the actual sound power in the room is somewhat more bass heavy than the flat anechoic response of the speaker. This is normal, and it's believed that we expect and desire this warm tilt with speakers in a room.

>>62069306

It's legit an extra 3 seconds to let the IEM dangle around your ear to get the cord around. The benefits of wearing them this way is worth the extra couple seconds.

Solder a new 3.5mm male.
>>
>>62069586
Well I don't have an aversion to bass like most seem to in this thread. I think the bass dt990 with like 5db on below 50hz and minus a few db above is ideal which is a fair bit of bass compared to some other headphones.
I don't know much about the dj8's but they look really nice and in my original request I mentioned i listen to electronic music. I like it for the synths but the bass is still important. So that's why I threw the dj8 in that little list.
I don't know anything about the momentums just saw a closed back sennheiser and listed it.
I'm leaning towards the msr7 but with another $150 left in my budget I'm open to other options. I would like it to be an upgrade from my 880 for at home use.

They really are gorgeous. Seriously insanely nice looking, I wouldn't mind having them on in the hallway between class although I doubt i'll do that. Anyway;

Anyone a frequency response pro?
What does this tell you?
I have limited experience but I'm seeing an exceptionally flat response with some boosted treble.
This seems ideal because as I said my favorite part of my favorite songs is the synth, which is treble. Having mids so inline with the bass also seems very appealing. I want to be sure I'm reading the graph right.
>>
>>62069889
flat responses are overrated. If you're producing music, especially if you're listening for distortion, then I can understand. Otherwise, go for what sounds good and forego the graphs.

Got muh w1000z in. I don't know when ATH started pricing their wood headphones so aggressively, but they're pretty competitive at $400, I always felt they were overpriced at MSRP.

Comfort is hit or miss, but for people with big round heads these are heaven. The extra thiccness of the earpads is so nice compared to their other models (ad 500x/700x).

They're not blowing my mind compared to the HD600, but I expected that going in. $300-$400 is right there near the peak of diminishing returns for headphones IMO.

Got my M6-Pro's, might like them more than my Piston Hybrids 2.0 where sound is concerned, not sure yet. Not too comfortable though

You could, if they fit well on your head they won't leak too much sound but they're comically huge for public use. If you're fine with looking hilarious in public then it's okay.

I wouldn't.

Don't unless you mean you're going to sell it to do so. You should buy a significantly different headphone if you're going to get a second. Don't end up with the 990 and 880 like I did, too similar. Get a sennheiser or hifiman or something.

Used abx (the terminal version, not whatever the fuck whippersnappers use now) ages ago to ABX lame mp3 and early (1.0 and pre-1.0) ogg-vorbis against lossless.
mp3 was shit even at 320kbps. Early ogg-vorbis did fool me at ~200kbit or later -q8.

Is it possible to have a pair of headphones that works fine for games and listening to music or is that a contradiction? I read the pastebin in the OP and what appeals the most is either a V or neutral headphones so bass or treble doesnt drown the other one out. Help me out /g/eniuses.

Not that anon but the point is its trivial to maintain a flac library vs an mp3 library. It's the difference between clicking link #1 or link#2 to your tracker of choice. I even carry my entire flac library around on my phone.

Pass, because mp3 is garbage. If you know what to look for, not even 320kbit/s is safe.

As an added note, there's plenty of large-scale tests out there. Particularly good are the ones conducted at hydrogenaudio (I participated in some of these before). These are more valuable than a few tests done with one or two sets of ears and headphones.

Shure does. Their cables (IEM and headphones) are practically indestructible (or at least they should be, dunno how some people apparently break Shure cables).

Thanks, I didn't know. It's really good to my ear. On songs I listen to very often I THINK my flac versions sound better but it's mostly how trivial it is to store them and the idea that it's a more complete version of the song.

apparently people get headaches from the ANC feature, always better to just go with actual sound isolation (earmuffs if you must) than some gimmicky technology. Does it actually cancel the sound completely? I'd be more concerned if ANC actually translates to less damaging noise to your ears or if it's just perceived to be less if that even makes sense. IEMs are best then. (Closed) headphones don't have as good of a noise isolation, *but* you might find them more comfortable and you may not necessarily want the best noise isolation that leaves you oblivious to your surroundings while traveling.

still. IEMs is what you need if you want something that doubles as earplugs for sleeping in almost total silence. You can wear additional hearing protection on top of them, like the same earmuffs rated for a shooting range.

my headphone is 7.5" wide, around 3.5" tall, and maybe 8.5" long with some leeway for the cable poking out. But how do I calculate the volume of a bag (pic related) with just the length and width.

Can I just assume it's the volume of a cylinder with the 2 x length as the circumference to find the radius/diameter

or can i just reliably guess by gut feeling instead of going through all the math I have not used for maybe 10 years

I actually do have the kse1500 it's great but it's more for stationary use. I wanted something to replace my ie80 and ie 800. Ie 800 is a piece of shit wiring job that the left side already cut off in 2 years. It sounded great though.

What are some mid to high end IEMs with a nice warm and laid-back sound? Something similar to the HD650 perhaps?

I'm looking to spend around 250 to 500 USD on a pair of IEMs.

ie80 is pretty good for the price range

For the price-range of the Etymotic Research MC5, can I get better noise isolation than the MC5?

And does the "upgrade" to MC3 or MC2 is worth the price? (assuming I'm a normie who can't tell two notes apart and will mostly use them to watch chinese cartoons and youtube videos)

Need some suggestions. I've never had quality headphones before, and audio fidelity isn't the hugest priority but I'd like something better than the cheap shit I've been using. Comfort, on the other hand, is the top priority as I'll be wearing them 8 hours+ daily.

Something that won't hurt my ears. For some reason high mids and trebles sometimes physically hurt my ears, even in real life. An example is my mother's voice (not joking), or loud a loud speech through speakers in an auditorium. So maybe something warm?

I don't really recommend these, there are a lot of better IEMs at that price range

HEM6, SE535, Ue900, Supra II are all better options imo

I have seen those in the wiki pastebin, I doubt I can get anything better for the same price (50 bucks)
I could spend more but I'm not sure it would be worth it if I'm just going to use them for gayming
Right now I have the fatal1ty gaymen headset, it sounds fine but they feel uncomfortable and my ears hurt after a while.
I'm not an audiophile or anything like that, just want something decent that I can wear for more than 30 minutes

The HD 650s will be much less harsh on your ears compared to the HD 600s
>>
>>62084329
Depends. They're dark, but they're also mid-forward.
Overall, I'd suggest going with the generally considered better HD600.
>>
>>62084576
>For some reason high mids and trebles sometimes physically hurt my ears, even in real life

HD 650s are warm and not at all harsh, the HD 600s aren't and can sound harsh, depending on who listens to them
>>
>>62084623 >>62084329 >>62084129 >>62083317 >>62078724
The HD600 are warm. HD650 are just warmer.
HD650 are mid-forward. HD600 are not.
HD600 treble isn't harsh at all (as somebody here puts it, "literally no treble!"). It's slightly darker than neutral, just not as dark as the HD650.
Overall, the HD600 are more well balanced (not dark and not mid-forward), so I definitely suggest them over HD650.
>>

There is no difference in sound between mid-production HD600's and early HD650's, only with supplied headband's and cables.

And do they suck compared to Lambda Pro's.

Shitty Jelly Comb ones I bought off amazon that were pretty good but broke in two months, xiaomi piston 2's that I loved until they broke. I also have a razer kraken headset, but that was a gift and I'm really, really not interested in getting anything like that again.
