WebExtensions / FF 57 / Nightly

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

Thread replies: 328

So... all the most useful addons are already ported and webextension-ready.

Why the fuck did you autistic knit-pickers jump ship before even giving it a chance? Firefox (Nightly) is now faster and more secure than ever before.

The lack of obscure, shitty XUL add-ons shouldn't deter you from using FF57, the best web browser of 2017.

Mozilla uses google analytics on their website. Mozilla reached an agreement with google that prevents google from using that data for advertising.
As a consequence of that agreement every user of google analytics can now also do the same. There's an option in google's dashboard.

Those analytics happen to also affect the "Get Add-ons" page in Firefox. It's mentioned in the privacy policy on the bottom of that page.

Decentraleyes will be ported to WebExtension and you can already get it now

WebExtension of HTTPS Everywhere will be made as well and you can already get it from here

Tampermonkey is proprietary binary blob botnet so I recommend Violentmonkey instead but I think if you really want Greasemonkey it'll be ported before November when 57 hits release channel

I've been using firefox for more than 10 years; if they're not going to allow me complete access to the browsers internals unless I fork and maintain a previous version or patch the source, I'll have none of it. I'm using esr for now.

Web browsers have completely overstepped their scopes trying to become entire operating systems. Hell, I don't even want my browser to play videos. If someone gave me a swiss army knife and a steak knife to cut a steak, I'd pick the steak knife every time. I have a dedicated video player with my settings and keybinds that does a better job than any browser will ever do.

General web browsers need to die. If the desktop market itself doesn't die completely, desktop programs need to resurge as marketers see the real estate of the desktop for shortcuts and notifications as they do homescreens on mobiles. Also there's a lot more control and flexibility integrating into the OS rather than fitting the site into html with styles and scripts. I wrote a desktop program for 4chan for this reason, and it's completely replaced my browser experience. I'll continue others for my favorite sites.

No, this was changed after people complained. It was completely ignoring DNT before.

Also, Mozilla's choice of analytics provider was questionable at best. They could easily deploy a self-hosted instance of Piwik and not give Google user data.

They argued that they wouldn't choose an "inferior" analytics provider just because its FLOSS. IMO the irony was rich here, as people precisely use Firefox because of principles (floss, privacy-minded, etc.) despite it being slower than the botnet.

I thought asking here would be better.
After opening certain sites that contain videos firefox CPU usage reaches 100% and remains even after closing the tab, and I need to restart firefox.

I thought it was of because partial blocking of JS but it remained even after allowing all scripts.
Any idea what would be causing it or how to stop it?
>>
>>62065989
What certain sites?
Flash or HTML5?

>CPU
Do you have hardware accel on?
Your GPU should be the one that's active not CPU rendering.
>>

Use uMatrix, disable media on the website and view the video with mpv + youtube-dl.
>>

>>62063911
New European Union regulations will require webpages to stop tracking users if they have Do Not Track enabled.
>DNT makes you easier to identify
So do your fonts, disabling WebRC, the battery API, JavaScript, referrer, User Agent, etc. There is literally no way to stop tracking unless you're using Tor and never logging in to a website that tracks.
>>
>>62065983
That's basically a separate application. The only thing it has in common with firefox is that it reuses the browser window but it basically replaces everything contained inside the window.
>>

If you can reliably reproduce it on a new profile you should file a bug.

While I do have flash installed, I've set it to ask before using it, so I believe it would be HTML5, though the video stream is in mp4 format.

It's set for "use when available"
I'm using a think pad T420 with iGPU.

I'm using NoScript, I need to enable some of the scripts to get the video link, then open it with Open with mpv add on.

When you enable Do Not Track, your browser tells websites "guys, please don't track this user, mmkay?" Whether or not websites respect it is a different thing. Some websites will stop tracking altogether, others will stop third party tracking, others will diminish the amount of cookies they save in your browser, others will ignore it or track you even more by using the DNT flag. (I once saw a website that didn't even let you access if had it enabled, but they ended up removing that.)
DNT is not enforced and every website does whatever it wants with that flag. However, the EU will force them, starting next year, to abide by it next year.
Privacy Badger scans the scripts that load whenever you visit a website. If it "thinks" there is a script following you between websites, it will block it. Privacy Badger stops tracking by not allowing tracking JS to run at all.

So in nightly what's the deal with the titlebar? When fullscreen, it seems to hide itself. Which is a cool deal. But no window controls, and furthermore, when you resize it, brings the titlebar back which is AIDS imo, and not going to fly since the tile tabs adodn is dead

1 I fucking hate sjws, lbgts and feminists so basically I hate everyone at mozilla
2 Firefox is slow and bloated as hell now, it stopped being good at version 30
3 I hate how Firefox became part of Google's botnet
4 There are better alternatives now like Palemoon
5 I hate anything Mozilla related because of sjws and their stupid decisions
6 I hate Firefox because its botnet, you can't go to a blank page without it connecting to several Mozilla servers and Google servers too
7 I fucking hate how it looks now
8 I don't want to install beta crapware on my pc

pretty sure that's the container addon. can make something like a profile, and change the color of each container and the border of a tab becomes that color.
