Aren't these just laggy chinkphones? The fact that it looks like a failed HTC M9 knockoff kinda puts me off. Then again the M9/M8 will never be remade with refreshed specs (I am still jelly of my co-workers having them, those phones look bomb).

Reposting from the last thread.

$599 would have been a more appropriate price than $699. But however bad you Americans had it, things were even more outrageous in the supposed home market - launch price was $899 Canadabux, unlocked. It made the PS3 look like a great deal in comparison. I paid $399 CAD for mine on a Bell Corporate plan (uncle still worked for Bell at the time so I got an incredible plan), and at that price I could have easily had an iPhone 6s (which would have held its value better and would still be getting OS updates) or a whole bunch of more competitive Android phones. But instead I chose the nationalistic route, and while I ended up liking the phone, it does not mean I don't have a tiny bit of regret. A lot of other people looked at the price - performance trade off and said "fuck that noise" and went with phones that cost the same and offered more.

I heard from insiders at Blackberry that the Priv cost a decent amount to manufacture because of the sliding keyboard and the curved AMOLED screen (which was a bigger deal in 2015 than it was now), but could have still been sold at a more affordable price. The reason it wasn't was due to internal pressure to show a profit on the hardware division and over - optimistic sales projections, so they priced it with a very healthy margin. Problem is, while they (very comfortably) covered variable costs, they could not cover the fixed costs because they just did not get enough volume.

OK /spg/

I have owned flip phones for years now, but I am ready to move on to a smart phone. But I want to be an autist and have a different kind of phone than most people.

I -don't- care about screen resolution or size
I -don't- care about manufacturer or operating system
I -do- care about processing speed and power
I -do- care about battery life
I -do- care about cost

Basically I want a chunky powerful phone with long battery life that doesn't cost over $150. Any suggestions?

None, all phones come with locked bootloaders. The difference is if the manufacturer allows you to unlock or not.

Just bought a T-Mobile Revvl after my LG G4 bootlooped Monday when I was surfing the web. It's alright. For $125 I really can't complain. It's snappy enough and the only thing that bugs me is the screen is some cheap glass or plastic.. idk, my finger doesn't slide smoothly over it all the time. Going to try and get LG to fix my G4 but that'll take time and this is a pretty good stand in.

Has anyone else noticed that MediaStore on Android Nougat can't read the date/year field in audio files using VorbisComments tagging system? All my albums show the year '0' on Nougat where before on Marshmallow they had their correct years. The files haven't changed and I've confirmed it's an Android issue by going back to Marshmallow where the tags show properly again.

It's related to VorbisComments because it occurs on FLAC and Ogg files (whether Vorbis or Opus), but doesn't occur with MP3 or AAC files which use ID3 tags.

Even other manufacturer's skinned phones have better performance

https://www.sammobile.com/2017/06/27/samsung-ui-fluidity-problem-needs-fixing

>Of all the current generation high-end phones that I have used (and I’ve used most of them), the Galaxy S8 and S8+ have the worst performance when it comes to scrolling and smoothness of UI. Even though the LG G6 and the Google Pixel have the previous-generation Snapdragon 821 processor, they fare better in this regard. Much cheaper phones from Xiaomi have a smoother UI as well.

https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2017/04/samsung-galaxy-s8-review-shiny-new-hardware-meets-old-software-habits/5/#h2

>Actual in-app performance on the Galaxy S8 is not great. The Google Pixel raised the bar for what smooth Android performance looks like, and the Galaxy S8 just can't keep up. In the above picture you see Android's built-in GPU profiler mode. Each vertical line is the time it takes to draw a single frame, with the horizontal green bar representing 60FPS. Bars under the green line rendered in time, resulting in smooth 60FPS scrolling. Bars that overshoot the line took too long to render, resulting in a stutter in the UI animation.

>Even in the lowest resolution possible—1480×720—the Galaxy S8 still drops a ton of frames when scrolling complicated apps like the Play Store. The highly optimized Google Pixel—at its full 2560×1440 resolution—is easily getting frames in on time. And even if things do slow down, there's a sizable amount of render time still.

>No matter what resolution you pick on the Galaxy S8, scrolling (especially scrolling slowly) has this weird stutter to it and a slight ghosting effect. Not everyone is sensitive to small performance issue like this, but if you are, you'll find the S8 a little unpleasant to use. I wish Samsung focused more on optimizing the whole display and GPU stack to hit 60FPS and run more smoothly, rather than adopting the raw benchmark focus the company seems to have now.

I preordered the Note5. AT&T Next @ $28/month It's eligible for free upgrade with a trade in (or I can pay $180 to keep it).

Bestbuy also pays $100 off the upfront cost of the Note8 making it $849.99 (the same cost as my Note5 64GB).

So total cost is $57 tax. $25 upgrade fee. $28/month. So my bill remains the same (both note 5 and note 8 are $28/month AT&T Next).

So out of pocket costs are $82 and i get 2 year newer phone and a wireless charger and a 128GB microSD card

Agree, but most times playing a game on a touchscreen is a real pain in the ass. Also, shoulder buttons become literally unusable.

Thanks senpai. What does /g/ think of buying used/refurb phones? I like the look of the LG G5…
>>
>>62061847
Pretty much that it's own interface lags with time, the camera has really fragile glass on the lens and the screen, for the price that it has, is quite lacklustre.

The fucking Nokias with their IPS panels have better brightness.

>>62061912
I personally wouldn't buy a refurbished phone unless it comes from Apple or Samsung. Mostly because those two companies actually check the refurbs in their facilities.
>>
Which phone should I go for a nice and stable usage? Is 7+ good, and will 128gig be enough ?

is this worth?

OUKITEL K6000 Plus 4G Phablet

Can't decide between gold or black for note 8.

Only two phones I've had were black.

Leaning towards gold because dem gold rims.

go for it
>>
>>62061983
OP5

but mediakek vs. snapdragon 6xx
>>
>>62062031
Dunno about the K6000 Plus, but the K6000 Pro actually gets worse battery life than the Redmi Note 4 because SD625 is so much more efficient than the Mediatek SoC

Sorry, should have been more clear. Certain apps like Snapchat are broken now and I just think my android version is too old for everything to work

I really hate Android 6, which is the latest for my phone, is my best bet cyanogenmod (an older one like 13)?

Where's the video dude?

Thanks for the answers.

Cyanogenmod 13 IS Android 6.0. LineageOS 14 is 7.0.

Huawei Mate 10 was the last thing that kept me from getting a note 8.

Seeing as the mate 10 will be 6" 1080p, Note 8 is so much better.

Preordering right now, help me god.

It's primarily for wiring Asian characters. All the other features are bonus.
